11 week private scan concern

I might be being crazy but went for a private scan today and the radiographer asked if we were planning the downs tests. It’s been playing on my mind and I’ve looked again at the pictures I got and now I’m panicking.

I’m obviously no expert but I’m concerned about this image.

Waiting on the scan company calling me back.

Don't you have your 12w scan with screenings scheduled soon? They would do the measurements and combined screening for you.

Sexnotgender · 19/09/2020 13:18

It’s a week on Wednesday.

Did they take detailed measurements? It may have been a simple question about whether you had a nuchal scan booked, not an indication something is wrong. If they didn't take detailed measurements then I don't think they'd have any indication that something may be amiss.

Sexnotgender · 19/09/2020 13:21

They took dating measurements.

What concerns you about the pictures OP?

Cafeaulait27 · 19/09/2020 13:24

Could you call them to ask for more details on why they said that? I think I would for your peace of mind, as you have a week wait for the 12 week scan.

@Yukka

What concerns you about the pictures OP?
The large dark area along the back.

We had this at the 12 week scan, because the neck looked a little thick, turned out perfectly fine I worried about downs for a few weeks. They asked us if we were planning the test too, it could be something they say, but they shouldn't through fear!!

I’m waiting on them phoning me back.

I can see what you are seeing and why you are concerned.
I had a private scan at 10 weeks and they also mentioned whether I was going to do the NIPT testing which made me worry and I asked him whether had seen something which was of concern but he said no (just trying to sell an additional service I think - although I did end up paying to have it done anyway).
Was this just a private scan place or a private maternity services place which is where I went and where the staff also happens to work in the hospital as well?
I know that fluid on the neck can change which is why they only do it between certain dates and before/after that it isn't as reliable

It was a private place - ultrasound-direct, national company and the radiographer also worked at the local hospital she said.

You're definitely doing the right thing asking them to call you back although I'm surprised if she had concerns why she wouldn't say at the time. Hopefully they call back and say it's just the angle the photo was taken or something x

Sexnotgender · 19/09/2020 13:44

Fingers crossed x

Do t read anything into the images, they're not anything to go by.

Sexnotgender · 19/09/2020 14:10

Radiographer just phoned. Says she can’t comment as they can’t take the measurements until 11+5 and her comment was just generally asking if we were planning on getting it. Thank you everyone, I still won’t relax until my 12 week scan I don’t think x

Fingers crossed all is well, it appears to be something they drop into conversation! It would be great to know how you get on x

Thanks, she was really lovely and said she’ll be more mindful how she asks in the future as the last thing she wants to do is cause any anxiety.

I see what you mean but the sonographer would have to, I’d imagine, refer you to the hospital if they had any concerns. You can probably find this within their policies. Not sure how that works in the UK.

Hope their words reassured you, though early pregnancy can be an anxious time. Baby’s size and heartbeat are great signs!

Sexnotgender · 20/09/2020 17:04

I do feel reassured to a point. I’d think if she’d seen anything overly concerning she’d have told me.

I also looked at more of the pictures I got and there’s one with baby with their back to you and there’s quite a marked line underneath so it might just be fluid?

I've had a private scan before when it wasnt good news (suspected missed miscarriage). The sonographer wrote me a report to take to the EPU clinic. So I'd imagine if it had been a real concern that they would have talked you through it at least.
