@chloxhunt it's the sperm which determines the baby's sex so it'd make no difference how many girl babies were in your family, your eggs only carry the X chromosome and the sperm is either X or Y, XX being a girl and XY being boy.

@Thack do you have low bp? Mine is pretty low anyway but pregnancy drives it down further it's been below 90/50 at appointments before now. I often feel faint and light headed, not drinking enough water and standing for long periods makes it worse. Low bp doesn't cause issues though if it is that, bar the risk of fainting.

I think I'm lucky we have everything already (number 3 and one of each!) the only thing I'm buying is a next to me. I had a Moses basket with the first 2, well a different one each time and they just ended up sleeping in our bed as they didn't like the lonely basket!! My husband refused to buy a next to me (he thought waste of money for 6 months max use!) so we didn't get one, but breastfeeding would be so much easier with one. So we are buying one this time, if he'd just let me order one for the first we'd have got 3 babies out of it and I wouldn't have bought 2 other baskets! Moral to the story is I'm always right 😆. We'll give it to my sister when we are done, she's plotting to get pregnant next year, so I won't even sell it on when it won't have been used long!

Phie04 · 12/09/2020 12:15

It must be reassuring knowing you have everything already but as young first time parents we have nothing, and no Idea what to get lol. I read somewhere that babies can't sleep in a moses basket overnight but then babycentre said they should sleep in one. I trust the NHS and the opinions of midwives over a random website so have just ordered it! No sure we will get anything else. Probably just some toiletries and baby grows. Were making a list for the fam to buy us stuff like furniture etc and then we will get what they don't buy!

Also just got my antenatal screen test results back. Very happy with the results.

We've started shopping too, my wife is painfully organised with everything! 😂 you name it, we have a spreadsheet for it!
We ordered our travel system the other day and the woman in store actually told us that they've had tons of March mums in and even some April mums. Made me feel slightly more normal! 😂

MrsAndMrs · 12/09/2020 12:22

@Phie04 such good news! You must be so relieved!

NoGinNotComingIn · 12/09/2020 12:26

Moses baskets are fine, why wouldn't they be? A simple one with secured inner covers, safe. They are just a pain in that you have to get out of bed to pick the baby up, breastfeeding is easier if you can just reach over and plonk the baby on. We were in the position of having to buy everything 5 years ago my children are only 4 and 3 so it wasn't that long ago. You can spend so much money on stuff you don't need, you just have to do your research.

Phie04 · 12/09/2020 12:47

@NoGinNotComingIn Yes I thought the same, as long as sturdy and breathable I don't see the problem people have used them for years. I was considering getting a next to the bed crib but if I nurse in bed I'm petrified of falling back to sleep and hurting the baby as me and OH are quite heavy sleepers. I feel everyone has their preferences and I can see the how easy it would make life by having them next to you lol! Im just too scared and would rather get up with them if I'm on maternity leave anyway Id rather OH got sleep for work, in which case id wake him in the bed.

Phie04 · 12/09/2020 12:48

@MrsAndMrs it is good news. I wasn't worried until I saw the letter it was a bit nerve racking opening it

holb54 · 12/09/2020 12:50

@Phie04 great results!

@MrsAndMrs your wife sounds like my type of girl! I'm in the middle of creating a spreadsheet 😂

NoGinNotComingIn · 12/09/2020 13:04

@Phie04 you are thoughtful, I'd never get out the bed to feed 😆, my husband got up with me for the first 3 months the first time anyway, totally pointless but he felt mean. Second one I don't think I ever saw him flinch, I wouldn't have got up either way. My children were ridiculous the number of times they woke to feed and the length of time it went on, I was still nighttime feeding a 2 year old!!! So it wasn't just a maternity leave thing. Nearly broke me in the end!

MrsAndMrs · 12/09/2020 13:11

@Phie04 I'm still waiting for mine, no news is good news and all that! 🤞🏼

@holb54 shes unreal! 😂 I was worried for jinxing it but she's keeps me calm! 😂

Phie04 · 12/09/2020 13:14

@NoGinNotComingIn I say this but il probs just get back into bed for a snuggle 😂😂 and @MrsAndMrs this is true! They said to me they would get back to me in 3 days if high risk

Phie04 · 12/09/2020 13:28

@NoGinNotComingIn I'm also hoping il be able to pump so my partner can do at least one night feed so I can catch up on sleep. I'm going to try the elvie pump if I can get the hang of breastfeeding

Rosehips89 · 12/09/2020 14:55

Is anyone else losing their mind waiting for the 20 week scan? The lead up to the 12 week scan was all anxiety about whether it had survived. Now I get to find out if I'm having a boy or a girl and I'm obsessed!

NoGinNotComingIn · 12/09/2020 15:04

@Rosehips89 the 20 week scan is the anomaly scan, without sounding harsh I’m more concerned that it has a brain and a heart that works properly, not what’s hanging between it’s legs! In many ways I’m more bothered about this than the 12 week scan, I think it’s worse to get bad news further in. We don’t find out the sex so I guess I’m not focused on that?!

chloxhunt · 12/09/2020 15:14

@NoGinNotComingIn it does because some women's bodies will only carry a certain sex or prefer a certain sex

Rosehips89 · 12/09/2020 15:25

@noginnotcomingin very true, but having had first had experience with bad news (loss) at a 12 week scan, and literally never heard of anyone in my circles having bad news at the 20week, I'm just blindly assuming all will be ok. I'm not saying it doesn't happen, but I'm taking reassurance in the thought that it happens less often than a first trimester loss. I refuse to scare myself by learning the actual percentages though! It's the first time in a year I've had excitement about a scan.

Phie04 · 12/09/2020 15:28

@Rosehips89 bless you! The risks are low that someone will be wrong at the 20 week scan. I think you've earned the right to be excited as baby is currently alive and healthy! Although you will possibly be nervous near the time just enjoy your excitement while it lasts! I sure am.

Usplusone · 12/09/2020 15:53

@NewMumma24 welcome and congratulations! We are having our dating scan Monday too, not long now!

We got a moses basket with a rocker for our first after a friend told me her snuz pod was far too heavy to move downstairs during the day. I did at times wish I could have pulled him into the bed at night (he fed A LOT) but he was right next to me and worked fine for us in the end
