@Pinktruffle it's so frustrating with things changing all the time. I hope you are out of a stricter lockdown by then and they are more relaxed about visitors. It's impossible to know and plan how things will be by the time we are in labour, just need to hope for the best. My friend gave birth this week and because the ward was quiet her partner got to stay with her quite a lot after the birth and was allowed to visit for longer than he was supposed to so I think they are being flexible where they can be.

PipTed · 13/09/2020 22:26

Regarding the covid restrictions at hospitals-this is very much dependant on what each trust decides based on what Government advises. Just because the Government has advised that it should happen, doesn’t necessarily mean that hospitals will follow suit.

My trust doesn’t allow partners to scans and is still only allowing partners at active labour (4cm) and just 2 hours after birth. They can visit for an hour a day if you’re in hospital for any amount of time after.

This differs for every trust though.

There is a campaign that has been launched, as a result of the petition that has previously been shared, which goes into detail... www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-8726417/amp/Covid-rules-forcing-thousands-mothers-endure-labour-without-loved-ones-side.html

PipTed · 13/09/2020 22:30

I’m feeling very deflated about it all if I’m honest.

tigertreats · 13/09/2020 22:48

Hi I'm new to this! Due mid Dec but likely to be early via c section as have major placenta praevia x

Jwl45 · 14/09/2020 07:51

Yes definitely @NaomiB79 I am in West Wales... Partners are only allowed in to the 20 week scan and then only allowed when in active labour and then only for 2 hours after your baby is born. I am under consultant so have extra growth scans, I was hoping hubby could come to those as he's missed the 12 wk and 20wk but no.... So unfair

Kj1010 · 14/09/2020 08:06

I'm just so peed off over the whole lot of it they have no thought for us pregnant women at all the government are a joke also cant wait to go on maternity leave from school we get told this morni g to do a deep special clean but tell us why after asking around it's because there is a potential covid case well as cleaners we need and should no but seems they hiding it I'm seriously thinking sod this I'm gonna take maternity earlier sorry rant over

peachypetite · 14/09/2020 09:06

My mum in law said she’d seen on the news that partners can now join for the whole of labour but I think she is confused, it seems hospitals can choose that if they want? I’ve signed the petition on change.org

PipTed · 14/09/2020 09:29

@peachypetite yes, I think the News is being objective and stating what government allows. But this doesn’t mean that our Local hospitals/trust will follow that; they can choose the measures they wish to impose.

It’s even more annoying that it is our trusts that are making these decisions, and not as top level as we thought. Would have hoped that they would have some empathy to change the restrictions. But don’t see that happening now the r rate is high again! 😖

MummyShark97 · 14/09/2020 11:28

It's just really annoying me tbh especially after the scare last week.

I was one of the lucky ones to be told my baby's heart is fine but imagine getting bad news on your own. The ward I was on was empty as well.

Anyone else getting their hospital bag ready?

OP posts:
nearlyamummyof2boys · 14/09/2020 11:49

@MummyShark97 I've bought all the bits and ordered myself a nice new bag so just waiting for that to come to pack it. Still waiting to go into new house so trying to do bits to keep busy!

My trust allows partners and appointments and the whole birth which is just amazing. My last hospital he wasn't even allowed to wait with me on the corridor. Just hope things stay in place.

NaomiB79 · 14/09/2020 12:24

@MummyShark97 I've bought most of the stuff to go in my bag, I just have a feeling my baby is going to come quite early so I'm trying to be super organised. I'm due 13th Nov. It's all been washed and laid out ready to go. I just need to buy some snacks / high energy drinks to go in.

The thing I'm struggling most with is what size baby clothes to pack so I've laid out outfits in both newborn size and 0-1 month size and will prob pack both.

I'm a ftm so makes it so real packing the bag, I'm excited and terrified at the same time! 😂

Awkes · 14/09/2020 12:27

Thanks for all your advice ladies! Not sure if it’s going to stick but I showed work some of the things I’d read on rcog and unison and have now been moved into the office while they review things.

My trust says the same partners only for 20w scans and only if in active labour for the birth but then I stumbled across a few comments on fb and a woman had just given birth that week and was saying they let her husband in the whole time and even to visit after as she was kept in a few days so who knows 🤷🏻‍♀️ There’s the policy and then there’s what they’re actually enforcing

confused107 · 14/09/2020 13:22

How's everyone doing. Had my midwife appointment and thankfully everything is going ok and she seems to be measuring perfectly.

Sorry to hear about all the issues with work for people. I wish employers could be more flexible. Thankfully I've been really lucky and my employer is very flexible.

I understand the frustration with the difference in hospital policies. Our hospital is still no partners until active labour or at scans but neighbouring trusts have lifted this. Our midwife led unit that would be my preference remains closed. I'm not due until 3rd December so I'm trying not to worry about it as I know things could change, and then change again and again before it's time for us to go in.

Also had a 4d scan yesterday. Very amazing and a little freaky!

Due end Nov/early Dec - Hello third trimester!
Jwl45 · 14/09/2020 13:45

@NaomiB79. I'm due Nov 13th too! Not as organised as you... I've thought about my bag.... Lol have bought newborn and up to one month too and will be packing both! With both my daughters - I can't remember the size... But the clothes I took were way too big ... So am taking both sizes this time. I need to start washing......

NaomiB79 · 14/09/2020 14:47

@Jwl45 wow we are due date twins 😄. The only reason I'm so organised is that there is a strong history of babies coming early in my family so I am worried about that.

My friend had a baby last week and was literally packing her pack whilst she was in labour (she was 3 weeks early) I would find that too stressful, prefer to be organised in advance x

nearlyamummyof2boys · 14/09/2020 16:04

Gorgeous scans @confused107 & @Asianchick6693

I love your cardigans @kkr168

I'm just in the maternity assessment unit. I had to come and drop of urine sample but as I left the house I noticed a bit of blood on the mattress from where I had got out the shower and when I wipe there is some.
I'm hoping to be seen soon and everything is ok.
Baby is moving around as normal which is making me feel a bit better!

I tried calling the triage line for an hour while we got ready and drove to the hospital - no answer what is the point in those things it just made me more stressed!

Babyhope98 · 14/09/2020 16:11

Hope all is ok reassuring he is still moving around normally ❤️ @nearlyamummyof2boys

jalu47 · 14/09/2020 16:16

hope all is ok @nearlyamummyof2boys

Does everyone have their MATB1 form? I'm 27 weeks and haven't got mine yet... Were you given yours automatically or did you have to request it? I'm self-employed so need it to start sorting my mat leave entitlements etc.

I haven't seen a midwife since my 16 week appt so maybe that's why? Due to see one next week so will ask if I need to..

nearlyamummyof2boys · 14/09/2020 16:19

@jalu47 my midwife just gave me mine at about 20 weeks I think. They normally just have them with them.

peachypetite · 14/09/2020 16:25

@jalu47 I got mine at 28 weeks which was my first midwife in person appointment since week 11.

jalu47 · 14/09/2020 16:26

Thanks @nearlyamummyof2boys and @peachypetite - thought I might end up getting it next week, just feels late to be sorting mat leave stuff!

confused107 · 14/09/2020 16:30

Goodness @nearlyamummyof2boys, you can definitely do without this. I hope everything is ok. Please let us know how you get on

@jalu47 my midwife had a pad of them and gave me mine at my first appointment following my 20 week scan so you should get it when you see it. If you need it urgently for work I would call your gp or midwife as I do know of friends that have had them posted

peachypetite · 14/09/2020 16:31

My employer was very understanding that things haven’t been normal and it didn’t matter it was later than the original cut off. I can’t wait to finish work and mentally checked out. Agree it’s best to start getting bits for hospital bag ready now, I know several people who have had very premature babies and it doesn’t seem worth the stress of leaving it until last minute!

jalu47 · 14/09/2020 16:41

@peachypetite I know what you mean, I'm seriously losing any motivation and starting to check out. I've still got 11 weeks to go which seems forever but because I'm self-employed I basically have no maternity pay, so have to work every day I can, and I'm pretty much discounting the minimum I might get off the govt..!

How are all the house movers doing?? I'm 27 weeks and we still don't have an offer on our place - have resigned myself to the fact we will be here post baby now. Is really frustrating and I have found myself putting off any plans for a nursery etc which I'm slightly gutted about. There doesn't seem much point as baby will be in with us for the first 4-6 months I guess and we will have hopefully have moved by the time a nursery is needed. Our obvious nursery space is also better set up as an office to sell. It's so hard to know what to do...
