Ok, its pointless poll time.

What cravings did you have and if you have more than one DC, what was the sex?

Am just having a bit of fun to see if i can predict what this one is going to be before ethe scan although i know that its all boys on DPs side so likely to be another boy!

dd - oranges
ds1 - lager and curry (yes really - thankfully cravings did not extend to watching hours of footie). I really hankered after the chemical tang in lager - my husband caught me by the fridge downing a stubbie at 3 am once.10 years on my son does not seem to have suffered any ill effects!
ds2 - black olives by the tin
ds3 - more olives mmmmmmmm

nurseyemma · 07/10/2007 22:16

Anti-craving with DD: couldn't even look at apples when normally eat at least 2 a day.

shrooms · 08/10/2007 00:31

DS: Popcorn with salt and vinegar or houmous! And still like it now...
Totally went off peanut butter, which really is strange as I eat a jar a week normally!

DD: Cereal, muesli, porridge, rice pudding. So sweet carbs basically.

Can anyone tell me when cravings are supposed to start?

I'm having a girl in Feb (22 weeks) and haven't had any cravings at all yet.

rozzyraspberry · 08/10/2007 17:22

I am pregnant with ds3 and have had no cravings in any pregnancies (except for in the first few months when a bit sicky and only unhealthy foods chips etc seemed attractive)

I'm not convinced that cravings have anything to do with defiencies or excesses, as studies have shown that people who craved meat didn't necessarily have low iron levels, nor that people craving sweets had low sugar levels. People who wanted salty snacks didn't have low sodium levels. Similarly women who had aversions to food such as pickles didn't necessarily have high salt or acidity levels ect.
I think it is more related to the very heightened sense of smell and taste/texture experienced by pregnant women. So I do think that hormones have a big role in cravings and aversions.
Add to this the emotional links with many foods and the comfort sometimes needed, and it is more than likely that pregnancies will induce faddy food patterns. But I suppose research isn't hugely in depth yet, so this theory could be wrong!

PopTastic · 08/10/2007 20:17

DD1 - milk, oily fish (couldn't eat curry)

DD2 - everything!

PopTastic · 08/10/2007 20:19
