One Step pregnancy test .... please no hate or judgment

I could really use opinions or thoughts please! I just took these 5 tests today..... the top 2 were around 2 pm and the other 3 were just now!

I had a little fun with a good friend who is also single we didn’t use protection but I am now scared it may have split! This was not planned Hence using protection etc! Please no negativity this is not a bragging post or anything, I just need a supportive or friendly ear as I am alone and family are fractured and no female friends to confide in..... I guess what I’m asking is

How accurate are the one step cheapies you buy on eBay/ amazon??

I don’t have regular periods due to pcos and have to take provera every 3/4 months to induce a bleed! My last provera bleed was 1-6 July after stopping my course of provera 10 days prior to this! I have just recently been told by my fertility doctor I won’t get pregnant naturally as he doesn’t believe I am ovulating and that my egg quality is seriously poor so I would be lucky so to speak or unlucky as in his words would not be viable and end in miscarriage again! 😢💔

I tried to add as much detail as possible and will attach some pictures. I'm so sorry for the long thread/ post just could do with some support! 💜💗

I have had No luck, the receptionist wouldn't entertain my request to get blood test done!!!

She said as far as the gp & nurse are concerned having had so many positives that I am pregnant and should see the midwife for a booking appointment and get my 12 week scan sorted ASAP!

I told them I do not want to go through all that process to find out at a 12 week scan it was all for nothing after it previously happening or that I start bleeding and miscarry.

I would like blood tests done to check all my levels etc as if everything looks ok I will have to notify my fertility consultant at the hospital! I would also need regular monitoring, an early scan etc but she just wouldn't budge!

She was adamant I juts need to see the midwife to be booked in because I'm clearly pregnant!

I'm just currently in a state of disbelief and not thinking positive at all I can't get my hopes up to have it crushed again either with multiple false positives or another loss!

Have a look at booking a private scan, they can usually be done from 6 weeks. It will put your mind at ease once and for all.

nachthexe · 08/09/2020 16:11

Book in with midwives and they will process the bloods request. It can literally be the first thing you say at your appointment. I doubt the receptionist has any authority for bloods referral.
Good luck.

LottieDot · 08/09/2020 16:19

@PearlHeart I agree with the 2 suggestions above. Also have you tried a digital test?

PearlHeart · 08/09/2020 16:37

I will call see what the midwife team say, the last time they had to get the doctor to do the blood tests for confirmation. They apparently don't confirm it they are their to start your pregnancy care etc .... which leaves me confused as to what/who will double check

Every time I have been to the midwife they have never done bloods to confirm levels or anything it's juts getting all history / urine for infection and bloods for infection. They are always just satisfied with multiple positive urine tests? So I kind of feel stuck in a catch 22, if that makes any sense?

Not tired a digital as yet, I have been burying my head in the sand and trying to pretend nothing is happening!

With standard NHS antenatal care, you won't get confirmation until the dating scan at 12/13 weeks. I have always opted for private scans earlier than this due to a previous missed miscarriage. You can get some good deals on Groupon.

PearlHeart · 08/09/2020 17:50

@misselphaba

Yeah I have found the same situation, I was told after my first 2 miscarriages that I should get early scans etc And my fertility consultant in the hospital said I was to get bloods etc done regularly. But none of it has ever happened, it's been the cycle of multiple positives and not making it to the 12 week scan or finding out at the 12 week scan that baby had begun being reabsorbed due to my body not miscarrying so noting could be done.

Oh I will have a little look online and see what I can find!
I'm just so scared that my tests must be wrong,I know it's an irrational fear I guess I don't want to lose another baby and I don't want it to be a case of I have multiple false positives and they won't investigate why just me to my own devices after that!

I am finding it so hard to deal with, I can't tell anyone as my family that I do have are pretty emotionally abusive and would call me every vulgar name you could think of etc! So I'm doing it all lone right now bar the wonderful support on here!

Been reading your post and I hope you get answers soon

Sexnotgender · 08/09/2020 20:14

I’d definitely try and get an early scan if I were you. They are all positive tests though quite faint so I’m guessing it’s early doors - 4 weeks or so? Fingers crossed for you Flowers

thetangleteaser · 08/09/2020 22:32

How frustrating for you OP, you’d definitely get a positive digital now, maybe seeing the words will make it more real for you. If the digital is positive I think you should call your EPAU directly and explain your situation and get their advice! Keeping everything crossed for you🤞🏻🤞🏻

Sexnotgender · 09/09/2020 09:54

How are you today @PearlHeart?

Lsquiggles · 09/09/2020 10:04

I would definitely look at booking a private scan to set your mind at ease!

PearlHeart · 09/09/2020 10:49

Hi ladies

I'm ok thank you today, just kind of carrying on as normal!
I have been helping my neighbour with dementia since 9.30 and still doing so....

Hope you are all well!

I will look at ordering digital tests today, unless I get some time to get to a chemist/ local shop that sells them!

Is there a minimum for an early scan? Some I have seen say 7/8 weeks others are 6/7 weeks.... I don't know how far along I should be at all with not knowing if/ when I ovulated etc!

Sexnotgender · 09/09/2020 10:50

I think it depends on the scanning place. Some will offer from 6 weeks others not until 8.

Glitterandunicorns · 09/09/2020 10:57

Hi OP. You've said you're not sure how far along you are due to not knowing when you ovulated. Pregnancy is calculated from the first day of your last period so it doesn't matter that you don't know your ovulation date.

I can understand your wish for blood tests. I've been in the same position as you twice before re MMC. I'm sorry for your losses. I'm saying this kindly, but I can't imagine you'll persuade anyone to do blood tests for you unless you begin to have symptoms of pregnancy loss (heavy cramps or bleeding). You have had so many positive tests that that is enough for GPs and midwives.

The last time I went for an early pregnancy scan, the earliest I could get was seven weeks, so it's not long to wait. I understand that in your position every day will feel like a year.

Best of luck.

Arrowcat · 09/09/2020 11:02

Hello love,

Just caught up!
Have you thought about contacting your hospital fertility consultant?
I don't work in obs and gynae but if I found out any patient of mine had been given the brush off like this I'd be furious. The doctors would get a verbal dressing down and id probably pull some strings to get more of your care done in a hospital setting if it was in any way possible.
And I'm not even a big cheese - more a baby Bel.
It's worth a shot love.

xbambi · 09/09/2020 11:08

I used a month out of date one step and got my positive so yes, I would say that you are pregnant. I did a clearblue digital after my positive one step just to be sure.

I’m pregnant but I am strongly pro-choice. You absolutely have options. A relative of mine was in an identical situation to you and is now a wonderful single Mum however on the other side of that I hope you don’t feel pressured that it is one of those “meant to be” situations if that isn’t the route you wish to take.

Wishing you health & happiness in whichever way this takes you x

misselphaba · 09/09/2020 11:21

You should be able to see something on a scan from 6 weeks. You will obviously see more at 8w but pregnancy in correct location with heartbeat can usually be confirmed at 6w.

pooopypants · 09/09/2020 11:22

Are you able to self refer to a local Early Pregnancy Unit?

SugarSW7 · 09/09/2020 11:32

Are you based in London? If so, St. George's have a wonderful self referral EPU. You can go to confirm dates or because of previous losses. Any woman that arrives before 11 will be seen.
Even if you're not nearby, I'm sure there will be a similar EPU somewhere.
Scans from 6 weeks will show at the very least a sac in the uterus and at the most a baby with a heartbeat.
I've had multiple losses too, so my heart goes out to you. x

xbambi · 09/09/2020 11:37

Another thought - appreciate expense can be an issue but I paid to have a private early scan at 6-7 weeks and it was the best £60 I ever spent in terms of reassurance. I used a company called ultrasound direct who have locations all over the UK. I’m lead to believe the NHS are not as willing as usual to offer early scans as they usually would be due to COVID as I explained to my midwife that I was suffering with terrible anxiety relating to my pregnancy and I was told pretty much tough luck until 12 weeks whereas I have friends pre covid who were getting early scans just for the fun of it, it seems!

PearlHeart · 09/09/2020 12:18

@Glitterandunicorns
I'm so sorry for you losses, it's such a horrible situation to be in!

My last bled that had to be brought on with a corse of provera was 1-6 July 2020 and prior to that was 17-23 February agin via provera!

Yeah I'm hitting a brick wall to try get bloods done it's frustrating as I was told previously I was to get bloods done anytime I get a positive result to check levels due to pcos and hormonal issues.

That's great to know that it's usually 7 weeks to be seen!

@Arrowcat

you for reply, when I previously called him he just wanted me to see the gp and get bloods!

He is the most cold inconsiderate consultant possible! He has refused me any fertility help or support! I had to fight for provera and now he said that it's the best option every 3-4 months from a gynaecology point of view! But I get no other assistance! He talks a good game but with my 4 miscarriages he offered no help or support or even kind words!

I will try contact him but most likely his reception or nurse team will deal with me!
