Ectopic and pregnancy after?

I'm 6 weeks pregnant and just had a scan last week because of some spotting. It's ectopic therefore not viable and they called me in for surgery immediately to have it and my fallopian tube removed this week.

Anyone here had this done before and successfully conceived/birthed a healthy child after? Give me some hope? I'm scared of going in for the operation.

I'm so sorry you're going through this op. I experienced a ruptured fallopian tube due to ectopic pregnancy over 30 years ago then went on to have my lovely daughter the following year. She is now a mother and my darling grandson (5) is staying with me tonight. Good luck with your procedure xx

So sorry to hear this. Yes I had the same 16 years ago. Went on to conceive 2 babies after.

The recovery took a while be gentle on yourself xx

Hi @bluebellsis, sorry to hear you are going through this but it will be ok.
I suffered an ectopic pregnancy just before Christmas. I had emergency keyhole surgery to remove the pregnancy and the left tube. The surgery itself was fine, took a few weeks to recover from physically and then left with tiny scars. The surgeon reassured me afterwards that the right ovary and tube looked healthy so to go ahead trying when I felt ready.
I fell pregnant again within a couple of months and am now 24 wks.
It sucks right now but there’s plenty of hope x

I had my left tube removed in May. I was completely alone due to Covid and only had 1 hours notice before surgery as mine had ruptured.
I am now pregnant again (8 weeks)! I did not think it would ever happen let alone so quickly.
The body is an amazing thing and 1 Fallopian Tube can service both ovaries, so it only reduces your fertility a little bit.
My recovery was really quick as it was key hole. I was back to work in 2 weeks but able to move freely after 1 week.
Do try to turn to friends (I told 2 of them) and family for support. If you need anything just message xx

Do you know how long you have to stay in hospital for afterwards? Are you allowed visitors?

I don't like hospitals at the best of times, never mind during a pandemic. I'm really frightened of being alone in hospital overnight.

I went into theatre at about 10pm, and was home by lunch the next day. So in less than a day, but it was overnight.

I just wanted to let you know that I had a similar thing last week and had the keyhole surgery yesterday. I had the pregnancy and the left tube removed and they told me it doesn't reduce fertility by much at all. It was completely fine, I was a bit drowsy for a few hours after, stayed in overnight and was home by lunchtime today. I'm a bit tender and tired but otherwise fine. Good luck with it, you'll be fine. I wasn't allowed visitors but was really well looked after.

Hi I had a ruptured ectopic and had open surgery rather than keyhole. Was in hospital for 4 days. Keyhole is a quicker stay. Recovery took a while. Became pregnant 6 months later with my son who is 10 now. It’s a stressful time so look after yourself. As already suggested The Ectopic Pregnancy Trust are great.

I had mine done in the afternoon and was sent home the following afternoon. It probably would have been sooner but I had some issues emptying my bladder properly (apparently it can react to being nudged during surgery).
I was 37 at the time and worried about conceiving again but it was fine.

I had an ectopic pregnancy, keyhole surgery and left tube removed. After one period, I got pregnant again with my son, now at school. So there is hope! I also found the EPT boards very helpful

My surgery was 10 am ish and I was out at 7:30pm. The staff were lovely and took care of me as I was not allowed visitors. They also put in a room on my on with a tv which was lovely.

I suffered an eptopic 15years back was a very painful and traumatising experience
Chose not to have kids till now , 15years on I’m 9weeks and baby in womb where it should be still along way too go but there is hope so please try not too worry it will happen for you again I’m most certainly x

Sorry you are doing through this..... i was told fertility went from 100% to 95% and not to worry.... of course nothing could reassure me at the time.... i have a perfect baby girl who is 2 and pregnant with baby boy :) there is always hope

That's amazing under the circumstances. ❤️ speedy recovery to you@LittleGungHo. I really hope I'll be in and out same day. I'm hoping I don't have to stay overnight, petrified of needing help and being all alone in the middle of the night. I find hospitals the scariest of places.

Did any of you have to wear a mask on the ward the entire time you were there? Having it on just for two hours was horrible - I don't know how NHS staff and key workers do it tbh all day.....

Was this the chemo Option? They mentioned I could take a tablet which is similar to chemo and that would cause me to miscarry. I'm not keen on that option though.

It was a shock (the rupture) but they had to do the surgery, there was no option. By 3pm I was able to get myself to the loo completely unaided. They will not want to keep you in any longer than you need, but remember to listen to them :).
You can do this!
Do you have friends and family to support you? I did not need physical help (I did sleep on the sofa when I got home for 1 week). But a friendly text and daily chat with family helped

I didn't have to wear a mask on the ward however my surgery was before they were mandated in hospitals. I am not sure if the rule now on wards.

I haven't told anyone yet. My husband told my MIL and that's it - he was quite upset as he really looked forward to another baby. I'm not sure who I would want to tell... xx
