I would take them off before hand. If your fingers swell for whatever reason they can cut them off and if you have to take them off yourself there's a risk of loss or theft.

mable88 · 18/08/2020 17:52

I've been wearing my rings on a chain round my neck for weeks - my fingers are just like sausages now 😂 I would take them off and leave them safely at home, just in case. I am not planning on wearing my ring-necklace to hospital when I go into labour, I'd rather leave them at home safe.

Camia · 19/08/2020 05:27

Congratulations to the new mamas I missed!

I just wanted to update you all. Westley is currently back in the hospital and classified as failure to thrive. He's been losing weight despite us adding in formula to supplement. He's being monitored and we're upping his formula as well as my pumping for tonight in the hopes that it helps but if it doesn't he may need a feeding tube and possibly be tested for underlying conditions that could be causing it. OH is not allowed in with us so we're both kind of wrecks but hanging in there. Westley is as alert and happy as ever so we're taking it as a good sign.

I hope everyone else is doing well

MizMoonshine · 19/08/2020 06:25

@Camia I really hope it's nothing ❤️

BoboN5 · 19/08/2020 09:17

Hey everyone, just catching up on all the new births as I've been off here for a while and it's so lovely to see everyone's bubbas! Great hearing everyone's stories too - every birth is so different and knowledge is power! I'm currently 39+4 and trying to be open minded about what happens so that I can leave myself in the hands of the experts.

To all the mums that are still expecting, any tips and advice on passing the time now you're on mat leave?!?! There's only so much bouncing on a ball, spinach curries and reorganising the baby wardrobe one can do 😂

Goatsdorhone · 19/08/2020 10:37

@Camia I'm so sorry to hear that, I hope they get to the bottom of it soon and you can be discharged. It's really hard being on your own in hospital and even more so in the circumstances I imagine x

Unfortunately we've not been able to effectively establish BF so what had begun as formula top ups seem to becoming the main method - it's been more stressful than I expected but she seems much happier and is feeding properly every 3 hours now which is a relief. She's being weighed tomorrow so fingers crossed she's ok weight wise.

mable88 · 19/08/2020 11:24

@Camia sorry to hear that lovely, fingers crossed they get him sorted soon.

@BoboN5 if you find the answer to this please share 😂 Its my due date today and I feel so deflated and fed up! Partly because hubby keep on at me and asking when the baby will arrive - really boring and complicated situation to do with his paternity/annual leave but essentially every day baby isn't here from now is a day less he gets to spend with her when she arrives and somehow he is making me feel that it is my fault I haven't given birth yet and being really grumpy with me. Had a bit of a cry last night as I am so fed up and uncomfortable and he said 'it's ok, all you have to do is sit around and watch telly'. Which is true but I don't think he quite gets how difficult moving now is and how bored and frustrated I am and how much his attitude is not helping!

I am going to do some baking this afternoon and quite possibly do my hair and makeup, for no other reason than it's something to do that isn't watching telly on the ball! And my mum, bless her, is going to come and spend the afternoon with me tomorrow - told her not to as it's a 5 hour round trip for her but she said she didn't feel right not being with me!

Oldestchild90s · 19/08/2020 17:58

@sezzywoowoo21 Any news?!

Nellie3 · 19/08/2020 18:47

Im still waiting too, I'm now 41+4 and REALLY hoping labour starts tonight/tomorrow as I'm booked in for induction tomorrow evening and would rather avoid that if possible. I'm trying to think positively about the situation and remember that either way I will meet my baby soon. The waiting around is painful, only advice I have is do as much 'normal' stuff as you can and keep making plans even if you think you won't reach that date because you might 😅 xxx

sezzywoowoo21 · 19/08/2020 22:29

Hi all well I had to go in Saturday for induction and wow what a time I had won't go into detail but bring on getting sterilised pretty quick Shockbut it's all worth it wen baby layed in arms all safe I had a beautiful baby girl weighing 8IB 6OZ on Sunday afternoon got out of hospital yesterday evening after a few complications but so glad to be home all safe and with my other 4 children 💖...hope everyone safe and wiv babies or soon to be xx

Oldestchild90s · 19/08/2020 22:56

@sezzywoowoo21 Congratulations 😍 hope all is ok x

gemso2020 · 20/08/2020 12:16

Hey ladies, congratulations to all the new mamas, and to those still waiting stay strong!

I got induced last Friday at 41+4, after a lonnng labour, (and a failed epidural!) finally got to meet our little boy, Eden on Saturday morning.

Is there a thread for post birth - I have so many questions! Shock

@camia - sending lots of love, keep us posted!

Superscientist · 20/08/2020 13:06

Not sure if there is a post birth thread. What are your questions I'm only a ftm 11 days in but if can answer I'll try?

cannotmakemymindup · 20/08/2020 16:00

I haven't made a separate post birth thread, but would say keep using this thread for all things antenatal and Postnatal

Anyone else still holding out?? I’m 39 weeks today & reckon I’ve got another week in me 🤦🏼‍♀️

mable88 · 21/08/2020 14:02

@Newmama29 Yup - 40+2 today and officially fed up! Had a sweep yesterday but so far no joy. I am feeling stressed because I haven't got my 41 week appointment booked in - the midwife was completely booked up for next week. It wasn't my usual midwife that I saw, she said she was going to refer me to the local midwife team who would ring me to make an appointment somewhere for another sweep and to discuss/book in an induction but I haven't heard anything from them yet. Could just cry as I like to have a plan and knowing how many days until a further sweep would help me just to relax a bit. Also feel sad I won't be seeing my normal midwife (although I know I am really lucky to have seen her every time apart from a couple of appointments). The not knowing is just doing my head in at the moment. Oh, and my birthing ball split yesterday - while I was on it! - so I can't even bounce my worries away at the moment! Feeling rather sorry for myself today Sad

KatyButton · 21/08/2020 14:48

Yep, 39+1 here and no signs yet.... Still got a few jobs to do so I’m ok to hang on a little longer! My last was 6 days “late” but I feel like this one will be early for some reason.
Newmama29 · 21/08/2020 15:21

I thought I’d be early last week as I had some back pain & cramping but back to nothing this week! I’m continuing to make plans as if I have a good week or 2 left in the hope that he’ll surprise me😂

I’m sorry you’re having a rubbish time @mable88 ☹️ It’s awful that there’s not much continuity with your midwife! I’ve been told I won’t be more than 12 days over for induction & I think even that is too far! I worry that the longer you get left the worse it ends up being 😭

heroineinahalfshell · 21/08/2020 16:17

I'm 40+6 today and very fed up! They've not been able to do any sweeps as my cervix is still long and closed so I have little hope I'll go into spontaneous labour. Induction booked for Tuesday when i'll be 40+10.

I really wanted to avoid induction but I feel a lot less stressed having an "end date" in sight. Sciatic pain is off the scale and I'm just knackered all the time so doing nothing except watching crap TV all day, it's driving me nuts!

/end moan

mable88 · 21/08/2020 18:16

@Newmama29 thanks lovely - going to ring up the midwife team first thing Monday to chase up, hopefully they'll get me in for another sweep or at the very least book me in for an indiction if things haven't got going by then/ I did get a sweep from the midwife yesterday and was 1cm dilated - made the mistake of googling that and apparently people can stay at 1cm for weeks, so my happiness was shortlived! Although I know my cervix was closed on Sunday, so it had dilated that much in 4 days so hopefully thats a good sign and it will just keep on going!

@heroineinahalfshell bless you, I know what you mean about having an end date - that's currently what is driving me absolutely bonkers, not having any way of knowing when baby will arrive. Hoping I get an induction booked in soon, so at least I will have an absolute date. I'm also stressing about baby being really late and ending up born in September, rather than August - but that's probably my teacher head over thinking things!

Newmama29 · 21/08/2020 18:21

I’m probably more than likely having a September baby! I’m due 28th august & with it being first baby I’m likely to go over. I really want to avoid induction though so if anyone has any tips on speeding things up? I know that they’ll come when they’re ready but is there anything people have done that are convinced started their labours?

mable88 · 21/08/2020 23:08

@Newmama29 Ahh see my due date was the 19th so I'd be almost two weeks over to get into September. But starting to worry nonetheless!

I had a birthing ball (until yesterday when it split while I was on it!!) and I do think baby felt lower after a good long session on that. Walking is good too for getting baby engaged and sex is meant to be good to get the cervix going, as there is a hormone in the sperm that is the same as they give you at an induction. This is just what my midwife friend recommended to me; I think all of these only work if things are about to happen/are happening anyway. I've tried them all and no baby so far!

Newmama29 · 21/08/2020 23:13

@mable88 I’ve been bouncing on the ball & baby definitely feels very low in my pelvis. I’ve had terrible problems with my pelvis though so walking is becoming near impossible & couldn’t imagine having sex🤦🏼‍♀️ But that may change in the next week when I become desperate lol!! I hope it’s not much longer for you now! I heard that the essential oil clary sage is meant to work very well, have you tried that?

mable88 · 21/08/2020 23:25

@Newmama29 ahh no, you probably don't want to be pushing baby into your pelvis too much then bless you! I have tried the clary sage in a really half hearted way - my friend gave me some mixed with lavender oil that she used in her labour and I give that an occasional sniff when I remember 😂 should probably try to use it a bit more regularly. I know its meant to be good in a bath but sadly ours is out of action at the moment and I don't think splashing it around the shower would have the same effect somehow! So I will have to make do with sniffing it or rubbing it on my skin I think.

Newmama29 · 21/08/2020 23:31

@mable88 I’ve just ordered some so going to get it in the bath the next few days! You can put it in the bottom of the shower & apparently it works well with the steam? 🤷🏼‍♀️ I’m getting to the stage that I’m willing to try anything!
