How old were you when you had your DC and if you had more than one how far apart in age are they?

25 for DS1 after a miscarriage the year before.
Was pregnant when he was 3 but it ended in a TFMR.
Pregnant again and 30 now. There will be 5y 1month between them.

DS1 18
DS2 35
17 years between them, the midwife was shocked when she realised they were with the same dad, still together after all these years!
My husband has 2 other sons from a previous relationship, so the age gap between his eldest & our youngest will be 22 years!

alphabetti · 03/07/2020 09:16

Had my DS at 20 and my DD at 22 - there is 20mth with them. Currently nearly 18weeks pregnant and will be 37yrs 6mth when hopefully it will be born.

22 and 25
By the time I was in my forties both were away at university, my career really took off and we could enjoy a lot of travel.

Interesting thread! Anyone else surprised either way? Most people who posted have more DC than I expected and the average age for first is a little younger than I'd thought (given my impressions of the typical Mumsnet user Grin).

I'm 32, pregnant with 1st and probably only - emotional impact of TTC with fertility issues was too big for me to consider repeating, at the moment.

I got asked a lot of they had the same dad. They do,but it's such a rude thing to ask.

Do you think having DC closer in age is easier or further apart (4/5 years ish)?

pros and cons. closer together, they are more likely to enjoy the same sort of activities and get along/play together.

But with a bigger age gap you avoid the drama of having two little ones in nappies/not sleeping/having tantrums together/costing a lot in nursery fees. You also get a bit of time with the baby when the bigger one is in school.

Mine are quite close together and it has worked out as I had hoped, but I have friends with bigger age gaps who have enjoyed their gap too.

I'll be 26 when baby comes in January x

NameChange30 · 06/07/2020 09:45

Before having DC1 I wanted a smallish age gap (about 2 years) but as it is, the gap will be 3.5 years and I'm quite happy about it. The reason being that you get some funded childcare after they turn 3, so you get 15/30 hours which means DC1 will have a couple of days a week in nursery while I'm with baby, which will probably do us all good! Of course you can still pay for that before they're 3 but on maternity pay it helps to have lower childcare costs.

bluemoon2468 · 06/07/2020 09:56

28 with DC1

Would love to have a 3 year age gap and have DC2 when I'm 31 if all goes to plan, with time for a DC3 if we still want one, before I hit 35 and am classed as a 'geriatric pregnancy'!
