We picked our name as there was only one that we both liked and agreed on. I wanted it to be an Irish name but one that wouldn't be difficult to pronounce as he will be raised in UK. So that very much helped narrow things down!!!

HarrietM87 · 27/07/2020 11:56

Lots of Irish on here ❤️. I think Irish boys names are easier - DS has an Irish name and although the spelling isn’t completely straightforward most people are fine with it. I adore it! Had loads of other boy names we liked but finding it much harder with girls. All of the easier ones (for English people) are used by family members so choice is limited!

HarrietM87 · 27/07/2020 11:56

What did you go for @AnxiousLady1?

MissingMo · 27/07/2020 12:30

@HarrietM87 We chose Aoife for our little girl. We wanted to keep with the Irish theme for bump DS but I find irish boys names are either too out there for me or too ordinary in comparison Wink I feel he will be here before I actually find something I really like

Pinktruffle · 27/07/2020 12:34

Aofie is a lovely name!

MissingMo · 27/07/2020 12:36

I keep thinking of Christmas at home with my little baby and a complete family. I think because I'm so anxious about everything to come, returning to work and the potential for things to worsen in terms of Covid.

AnxiousLady1 · 27/07/2020 12:50

@Harrietm87 We're going with Conor. Obviously a popular enough name in Ireland but a safe enough bet here and combined with our surname it's a good strong name. My DH was perplexed by the pronunciation/spelling of most of the Irish names we looked at, but we both liked this one and don't know any other Conors so that's good!

Oatmilk1 · 27/07/2020 12:58

@AnxiousLady1

Conor is a great name!

Pink15 · 27/07/2020 13:00

@MissingMo I'm not Irish but love Aoife! So pretty

HarrietM87 · 27/07/2020 13:06

I love Conor! Would definitely have been on my list if baby 2 had been a boy. Also like Aoife but have a cousin called that and we’re not very close so would be a bit weird I think. My cousins bagged all the great girls names! My DS has the same name as Irish Nobel poet. It’s my favourite name ever.

Wigglebum87 · 27/07/2020 15:30

Ah we had the name chat last night, there are only a couple we agree on for both boy and girl, so we may have an easy-ish decision!

Pink15 · 27/07/2020 15:43

@Wigglebum87 the name chat ... singular? 🤣 we discuss it at least three times a week and still haven't got anywhere!!

Wigglebum87 · 27/07/2020 15:50

@Pink15 I should say the first name chat! I am going to be pushing this conversation more and more! Luckily, were both agreed that we want to go traditional as we both have traditional names, but no doubt we will end up deciding when we see the little one. My cousin is due 2 weeks before me so hoping they dont steal any names too otherwise we will have a problem!

Pink15 · 27/07/2020 17:07

@Wigglebum87 ah that would be annoying if your cousin picked the same name! I'm sure it's unlikely though. Are you both have the same sex baby?

Wigglebum87 · 27/07/2020 17:11

@Pink15 neither of us are finding out what we're having

eleanorsos · 27/07/2020 18:49

@AnxiousLady1 We are also thinking of Aoife! Such a lovely name and we have a very Irish surname 😁 if you're in UK, have you found people can say it without too much trouble? We figured it's pretty understandable as far as Irish names go and little less common in England than all the other names we liked!

MissingMo · 27/07/2020 19:49

@eleanorsos In England so yes UK. Aoife matched her very Irish surname as well. Once people have heard it said aloud there has been absolutely no issues but when people have only seen it written they don't always know how to say it. I would say of you love it then go for it absolutely, its quite unique in my location and it gets complemented quite a lot. People always ask where its from or if they know it what connection they have to it/Ireland.

HarrietM87 · 27/07/2020 19:51

I actually think Aoife is becoming pretty popular in the UK now. Along with Orla and Niamh even non-Irish people are starting to use it. One of my (Irish) friends has a little girl called Aoife who is 3 and has had no issues at all, and my colleague (no Irish connections) also called her daughter Aoife last year.

eleanorsos · 27/07/2020 22:06

Ah that's reassuring, thank you both 😁

Jujumum83 · 29/07/2020 08:43

Morning ladies i have only just found this thread and hoping to join in with you all 😊 I'm due 24th Nov with my first.

Our name battle is weekly and rages on. Might just wait for birth and play the 'I just gave birth' card!

On a separate note, thank you to whover it was that recommended love leggings (I think it was @BuffaloCauliflower). They arrived yesterday and I am wearing them today, I may never take them off! So comfortable

BuffaloCauliflower · 29/07/2020 09:30

@FilthyforFirth that probably was me! Still in my Love Leggings. Don’t tumble them though it ruins the elastic (learned the hard way 😕)

FilthyforFirth · 29/07/2020 10:21

Oh how I wish I had a tumble dryer! Need to clear out the garage to find space for one in there!

I also recieved some jeggings and a couple of tops from Dorothy Perkins in the sale. They were stretchy and comfy for those still looking!

MrsR87 · 29/07/2020 12:15

@BuffaloCauliflower @FilthyforFirth
Or it could have been me. I’ve been raving about them since I bought them lol. I never wear leggings usually but I love them, especially as you can’t see your pants 😂😂😂
I’m in the maternity ones but will be ordering normal ones once I’m able to fit in them lol.
