@EithneBlue you could wait and see what baby is like. I didn't drive and my dd had silent reflux so would cry every hour of the day unless being walked in the pram. The crying nearly sent me doolally. I literally used to pack a bag and go out at 9am with the pram and come back at 5pm most days ( I'm hoping this baby is not as difficult though). I tended use the sling around the house. Having a pram also means family can take them for a walk to give you a break. It all depends on your lifestyle and baby really. I'll be using the pram as well for sleeping downstairs rather than a Moses basket of similar.

@roro87 Oooh I love Arlo!

ChampooPapi · 29/06/2020 19:31

@roro87 vote for August ☑️

@roro87 I love beau, Reid and august! They were all on my list before I found out we were having a girl. My OH is totally the same aswell, I’ve fallen in love with the name Margot which isn’t even that different but he won’t have it 🙄😭

EithneBlue · 29/06/2020 19:34

@chubbyhotchoc - Yeah: I think I'll realise pretty quickly what I want and will then send my husband on a quest if a pram is needed ;-) It's just so hard to predict beforehand! For every person who says to me 'pram all the way' there's another who says 'nope, only used a sling' -- it's hard to judge.

ChampooPapi · 29/06/2020 19:37

@roro87 have you considered Ebon?

MummyShark97 · 29/06/2020 19:37

@roro87 I love Arlo and August !! so sweet

It's going to be such an intense week, think we've found a house on a new build estate and now we're running around getting everything in order. The house is ready to move into though so if we go for it should be in before baby with time to spare! A few of us buying houses isn't there!

ChampooPapi · 29/06/2020 19:39

@Awkes I really like Margot. Margot Fonteyn 💃

Awkes · 29/06/2020 19:50

@champoopapi thank you 🙏🏻 it’s a nickname we’ve always used for my godmother who is quite posh and so became Margot like from the good life
@roro87 There’s still a good 4 months to persuade the men we’re right! That’s my plan anyway 😂

EithneBlue · 29/06/2020 20:25

@MummyShark97 - I'm in a new build (18 months in) and love it :-) Chase hard on any little snags, though: some of the admin systems for that can be a little slow.

MummyShark97 · 29/06/2020 20:29

@eithneblue ouh thank you for the tip. First time buyers so any advice if helpful to us !

EithneBlue · 29/06/2020 20:40

So NCT have emailed me: my course, which is booked for September, is being moved online. I guess that highlights their position on the relaxing of lockdown restrictions...

Elsewhere the government do seem adamant that all schools will be back to everyone in school by then, which means in theory I could be doing an online course 'for my own safety' but teaching in a secondary school. Haha.

EithneBlue · 29/06/2020 21:05

@MummyShark97 - Happy to offer any advice or personal experience if you ever want it - just ask :-)

jojanna · 29/06/2020 21:23

@EithneBlue me too... tossing over whether to cancel... the two things i really wanted from the course was hands on demonstrations of things like changing nappies/"real" nappies and breastfeeding, and meeting local people at a similar stage... I'm not convinced I'll get either of those through a zoom meeting. Kinda sick of zoom meetings I have to say! Makes me worried that the hospital/birthing restrictions won't have changed by then too. It's all pretty scary.

RestorationInsanity · 29/06/2020 21:38

@jojanna I feel the same. Really just wanted practical advice on baby care etc. I don't think that will be particularly feasible online so don't think I'll bother. Perhaps I'm naive but people have coped without antenatal classes for centuries, so as my mum is more than willing to help us out (and DH is on board with that) I know she'll help us get to grips with nappy changing etc. Have you got anyone who can do likewise?

@ChampooPapi thank you! The bump really just appeared almost over night towards the end of last week. I was quite delighted.

18 weeks on Friday and still no word on my 20 week scan. The midwife last week said she would chase it so fingers crossed it comes soon, am getting quite nervous about it! Be nice to have some more concrete/frequent baby movement, even though I know it's nothing to worry about at this stage.

Pinktruffle · 29/06/2020 21:40

I had a bit of an anxiety-fest this afternoon and ended up going to maternity triage this evening. They checked baby over, we got to hear the heartbeat and everything is fine. Feel a bit silly now but better safe than sorry.... and the midwife I saw was lovely, first time I've actually seen a midwife and she was really reassuring

Pinktruffle · 29/06/2020 21:41

@roro87 I vote for Reid, it's a lovely name!

RestorationInsanity · 29/06/2020 22:13

Am sorry you felt that way @Pinktruffle but glad they saw you and reassured you. It would help me so much to hear the heartbeat.

DH seems reluctant to talk about names (not sure why as he's totally happy to plan/talk/think about the baby and baby stuff generally)

excitednerves · 29/06/2020 22:40

@MummyShark97 I’m another house buyer! It’s exciting and stressful isn’t it? We had the mad rush to put an offer in, now waiting on the mortgage going through which is taking forever, it’s seems to be lost in a backlog.

@Pinktruffle always better safe than sorry. Ive always had a great experience with triage.

We have two long lists of names which we both like - so we’ll have the opposite problem of cutting them down ha ha. Personally I’m loving Oscar or Raphael for a boy, Beatrice for a girl. I also adore Felix and Leo for boys but they don’t really go with our surname. Might have Leo as a middle name for a boy though.

excitednerves · 29/06/2020 22:53

@kkr168 I got the flip xt last year for my first baby. I love it. So easy to fold up and store and pushes like a dream. I’m holding on to it for when my first outgrows the double buggy and I can move baby 2 into a single.

Also the star blanket is gorgeous!

EithneBlue · 29/06/2020 23:17

@jojanna - yeah I am a bit disappointed by the lack of practical over Zoom ... I've so little experience with newborns: I was hoping to get some guided practice. But mostly I signed up for the social element so I probably will still go ahead with it and hope for the best in terms of making friends online. Just seems weird that they have decided so far ahead when the government are so adamant about returning to normality (not that I believe the government...)

peachypetite · 30/06/2020 07:06

Anyone else still food averse? I haven’t eaten a proper portion size of dinner in ages. Last night could only stomach bowl of fruit.

MummyShark97 · 30/06/2020 07:23

@excitednerves honestly - sent all the docs off last night then reserving our plot on Thursday... it's going to be so intense!

MummyShark97 · 30/06/2020 07:27

@peachypetite some things I can eat normally and other things I just can't touch and then some foods I can eat a little of! I've not had any cravings really but plenty of aversions.

peachypetite · 30/06/2020 07:52

Bit fed up of it although at least I’m not gaining loads of weight! Not sure why but evenings are so much worse for me, I eat breakfast and lunch, then it gets to the evening and appetite vanishes Confused
