Charlie or Sam?!

We were sort of decided on Sam for DS2 (due in 3weeks) although neither of us were madly enthusiastic on it, just happy-ish.

We like Charlie too though, but it's a bit popular and we were hoping to avoid a Top 10 name.

I think we're hoping we'll 'know' what he is when we see him now.

Any opinions? Do you know lots of little Sams / Charlies?

I wouldn't have a name you were only happy with. Forget C and S and look for something ocmpletely new. You've still got time....

MamaG · 24/09/2007 13:09

I only know 2 charlies
no sams.

princessmel · 24/09/2007 13:09

I agree. Ditch them both untill you find a name you love.

fingerwoman · 24/09/2007 13:09

I like Sam better than Charlie.

PregnantGrrrl · 24/09/2007 13:10

I'm starting to love Charlie though...it's the popularity of it that puts me off.

We don't like anything else- and we've looked believe me!

how about Samual?

Hulababy · 24/09/2007 13:10

DD has gerbils called Charlie and Sammy

I actually don't know any little ones with either name, but have met older children/adults with these names.

My friend is currently 8 monhts pregnant with a little boy and the name they are considering is Charlie.

SuperMonkey · 24/09/2007 13:10

We didn't even seriously think about it until after DS was born. You've got plenty time.

belgo · 24/09/2007 13:10

I like Charlie.

RGPargy · 24/09/2007 13:10

If you're not 100% happy with the names, call them something else!

ChorusLine · 24/09/2007 13:10

I have a Sam!

Hulababy · 24/09/2007 13:11

If you like a name don't worry about popularity. Your own little one will be unique regrardless of name.

MamaG · 24/09/2007 13:11

PG if you are starting to really love CHarlie, then go for it. Don't worry about top 10 names etc, just go for the name you love!

Anna8888 · 24/09/2007 13:11

LOL Hulababy, I used to have a gerbil called Sammy .

Charlie is nice.

MamaG · 24/09/2007 13:11

(and what hula said)

PregnantGrrrl · 24/09/2007 13:12

Belgo- i HATE Samuel, makes me feel icky! (Apologies to any mothers of Samuels!)

Hulababy- my Grampa's dog was called Sam, and his cat was called Charlie. He's going to think either is daft i think!

Samuel was higher up the top 10 list than Charlie in 2006 and most of them will be shortened to Sam. If you are only happish I would choose something else.

Get the baby name book out again and have a look - as NAB3 says you have the time.

Do you want suggestions?

PregnantGrrrl · 24/09/2007 13:14

He FEELS like a Charlie

I just wanted to avoid him being in a class of 4 other Charlies. The kids in school with me who had the same name ended up being called by surnames or nicknames, and i always thought that was a bit crap.

Fimbo · 24/09/2007 13:14

Dd has 3 Sam's in her class. Where I live the most popular boys names are Sam, Jack & Ben.

PregnantGrrrl · 24/09/2007 13:15

Any suggestions gladly received though. Our surname begins with 'O', and we already have a George (DS)

We want something boyish, straight forward and not easily shortened / rhymed.

MorocconOil · 24/09/2007 13:16

Agree with Hulababy. My DS1's name is in the top 10 popular names, and one of his friends has the same name but they both seem so different you don't think about it. They sometimes get muddled at school though, and I wonder if they ever get in to trouble for something naughty the other did.

I know 3 Charlies and lots of Sams.

ptangyangkipperbang · 24/09/2007 13:17

Charlie a great name. Even when names are in the top 10 it doesn't always mean there are going to be lots near you. Jack was in the top 10 lists a few years ago yet we only knew 1. Ignore the lists. You could always ask the Health Visitor/midwife what people are choosing cos they'll know what is happening locally.

geordiemacminx · 24/09/2007 13:17

i have a chaarlie...not met any others yet... he suits his name...he is soooooooooo cheeky!!!

Fimbo · 24/09/2007 13:19

Adam (my ds)

Alfie
Murray
Calum
Ross

PregnantGrrrl · 24/09/2007 13:19

true- we had no idea George was 16th (i think) last year, but i've only met one other George in 15mths.
