Sex scan wrong?

Newmumtobe7654 · 12/06/2020 22:12

Hi all, I am currently 17 weeks pregnant with my first. I had a private scan today and was told the sex is a girl. There seemed to be 2 lines and no boy 'bits' although it did take the sonographer a while as the baby had her legs crossed. I was going to do some online shopping and buy some girly clothes online but after looking it up it seems that a girl can be mistaken for a boy. Has this happened to anyone? I am guessing it is very rare? 😅

Several scans told me a girl. I had a boy.. What a shocker!!
Can you post your scan pic?
Lots of 'experts' here!!

Oh really?! How many weeks pregnant were you when they said girl?
Unfortunately they didn't give me a potty shot. There looked like there was nothing between the legs (I have seen on some scan photos the girl parts look like they come out a bit)... Wish I got a potty shot now 🤔🤔🤔

My sister was told it was a girl at 18 weeks then found out it was a boy around 22 weeks - quite common I think at the early stages

notheragain4 · 12/06/2020 22:38

I would wait until the 20 week scan to confirm. I too was told girl but it was a boy, but thankfully in the same scan lol, as it was private he really took the time to be sure so corrected himself as he struggled (17/18 weeks). It was very clear by 20 weeks. It's much easier for a boy to be mistaken for a girl, I'm sure you have a girl, but maybe wait until 20 weeks to be sure before buying Smile

One of my friends was told girl by two different sonographers at 16 and 20 week scans then gave birth to a healthy baby boy so it does happen although it's still quite rare.
She was so shocked at the time but admits now that baby was in an awkward position both times and it was hard to get a clear look.

I had a scan at 17 weeks and it looked very obvious, even to my untrained eye, that it was a girl. This has then been confirmed at 20, 23 and 31 week scans.

I paid for gender scan for both my kids , they both came out as predicted .

Newmumtobe7654 · 12/06/2020 22:53

Maybe I should wait until the 20 week anomoly scan before buying any clothes!! I guess the chances are very low it being wrong but I suppose it's never 100%

This is why lots of hospitals don’t tell people.

BeMorePacific · 12/06/2020 23:41

It’s more likely that girl predictions are wrong, than boy predictions.
17 weeks is still very early to clearly see. I’d hold off shopping, and get it confirmed at the anomaly scan. Congratulations on your pregnancy xxx

Newmumtobe7654 · 13/06/2020 06:45

Thank you! Ahh it's so crazy that it can be wrong!!

Try not to stress, it doesn't happy very often and I'm sure you have a girl, if you don't want to wait to buy maybe just hang onto receipts Smile

Scans at 20 weeks and 22, 24 and 26...
Ds was 7.10 and hung like a small horse - not sure how they missed it!!

I was told girl at my 20 week scan. DS is now 18 though so probably better technology these days.

Pipandmum · 13/06/2020 10:59

Our sonographer said it was a girl. It was, but when we expressed our happiness (after three boys) he quickly backtracked and said it was never 100% accurate.
My sister in law was told her third was a girl (after two boys). Her son then had to wear pink for the first three months...

Ughmaybenot · 13/06/2020 11:04

My brother and his girlfriend were told boy at three scans, I can’t remember exactly how many weeks each was, but they were around 16 weeks onwards.
They had a girl. It’s definitely not an exact science!

Mynotsoperfectlittlefamily · 13/06/2020 11:36

Told girl at 20 week anomaly scan. Had a growth scan at 38 weeks to find a boy. Waters broke half an hour later and he was born later that night. Glad I found out in the scan before giving birth 😂

Newmumtobe7654 · 13/06/2020 13:55

@Mynotsoperfectlittlefamily that must have been such an emotional day for you!!!

Since just 3 wks until your next scan I would wait-
The chances of 2 being wrong are low.

Mynotsoperfectlittlefamily · 13/06/2020 14:42

@Newmumtobe7654 more stressful than anything my home birth turned into an induction very quickly and had to go alone but he was here and healthy

Newmumtobe7654 · 13/06/2020 14:51

@Mynotsoperfectlittlefamily ahh wow, congratulations!!
It will be funny if my baby ends up being a boy after I have put so many clothes in an online basket 😅
I am just really really hoping that my baby is healthy and everything is OK at the anomoly scan!! 3 weeks to go.

My friend was told girl at 18weeks but she ended up having little BOY

danceintherain18 · 13/06/2020 15:08

I was told girl at 18 weeks and boy at 20 weeks.
My little boy is now 2 lol xx

RoseGoldEagle · 13/06/2020 15:18

I was told ‘probably girl’ at 20 week scan. Even though she said the baby’s position was great and she got a good look, she still just couldn’t say for sure. We’re not telling anyone, just in case!
