How long after birth until you took a shower?

Just as the title says, I was just wondering when people had a shower after giving birth? Did you go when there were visitors to supervise baby or when you were on your own? Did you wait until you got home? X

About twenty minutes after I had them. Dh was in the delivery room and I went and had a shower. It was so nice to feel clean and put on clean comfy clothes.
I had very straight forward births though no stitches or anything.

About 3 hours, midwife came in and told me it was time for a shower if I could stand up okay, I had an epidural

Within the hour after having her while hubby was holding her in the delivery room.
It felt lovely to get freshened up and some nice comfy pjs on afterwards.

An hour of so after giving birth. The room had an ensuite shower so just left the baby with my husband. Vaginal birth with some stitches

Very quickly, about 30 minutes after I had DD1 and DD2. In hospital, so before I was sent back to the wards when you're in the birthing room.

DH had the babies both times. My mum helped me in the bathroom the first time but the second I was alright on my own.

I'm not sure how long afterwards but both times I had a shower on delivery suite before going up to the ward, so first shower was while dh was still there with the baby. When I showered the next day on the ward I think I just wheeled the cot into the bathroom with me.

Within an hour after a straightforward birth, it was wonderful. DH looked after the baby. My first was an emergency section and I was given a bed bath the following morning, that was wonderful too.

I must add... both of my births were very straight forward with no stitches. May have been different otherwise.

A few hours after giving birth, and after being stitched up. DH was still there and looked after baby. I really wished I'd waited until I'd got home though. All I could think was, that I was getting blood everywhere, and how many women had used the shower before me and done the same. It did not feel sanitary!

About two hours after.first baby I was fine, second I was in so much shock because the birth was so quick, I shouldn’t really have been in there on my own.

I’m a gritty cow! It was quite a few days. I was grim. In my defence I had terrible pnd from the get go and panicked massively if I wasn’t holding him. After close to a week I had a shower with the door open while my husband held him and I watched him. Feels pretty fucking nuts thinking back!!

About an hour. She was a water birth so we were both pretty clean anyway afterwards. We changed rooms out of that one so it could be cleaned for the next water birth and moved into a suite where we stayed for 2 days. I had a shower once we moved. The midwives looked after her for me whilst I had a shower as my husband had to go back to work for a few days (nhs worker and had to have a few days to finish work and hand over)

I think it was about an hour afterwards, I'm pretty sure my mum was still there as my DH helped me into the shower as my legs were feeling quite weak

Straightforward induction with epidural and few stitches I took a shower about an hour after birth, birthing room had an en-suite, partner stayed with the baby while I went for a shower! Was very to nice freshen up and put clean pjs on after birth I also had another shower the next morning when DP came for visiting x

I must add I only went for a shower the next day in hospital because it's so dam hot on maternity ward I felt so clammy and horrible although I did go home a few hours later x

About 2 days? 🤔 I had a section and was in hospital for 5 days with boy and it's a bit of a blur but definitely a while!

I did have baby wipe wash though

Both mine were c sections.

Dd1 was the next afternoon. Dh had the baby, I went on my own and almost couldnt walk back to my room I was so exhausted.

Dd2 I had her at 8am and asked to have the catheter out early evening so I could have a shower with dh there to help me. It was the hot summer of 2018 and I'd been in labour for 3 days before the section, I NEEDED that shower!!!! We just wheeled the baby into the corner of the bathroom.

With ds, it was about an hour and a half after birth, I'd had a vaginal birth, an epidural and episiotomy and a very insistent Dutch lady helped me into the shower and sat me on a shower seat. After nearly 12 hours of active labour and nearly a week of contractions it felt pretty good, except for the fact that I couldnt feel one leg due to the epidural.

With dd the delivery unit was quieter, so it was a couple of hours before they wanted us to get moving. I managed that shower on my own, standing rather than sitting. It was after about 90 minutes of active labour, vaginal delivery and 3 or 4 stitches for a tear, no epidural this time. That was the best shower I have ever taken.

Dh looked after baby both times but there were midwives and health care staff as well as hospital porters coming in and out too, so he didn't feel abandoned, and he loved having some one on one time with his new baby.

I think mine was a couple of hours after birth. I was so out of it I can’t really remember. I’d been nil by mouth for over 40 hours by the time I showered though, and I had to get out quickly as I could feel I was going to faint. Was a disappointing after birth shower.

About half an hour afterwards whilst still in delivery so DH could keep an eye on the baby!
Didn't have another for a week as I had a PPH whilst being nnthe shower and ended up in intensive care! - it was like a scene from Carrie. I had a bed bath every day after that til I got home.

About 5 hours after. I was pretty mangled though, lots of stitches and I nearly passed out on the short walk to the showers, which took me around 30 mins to shuffle to.

My husband stayed with the baby.

About 20 hours after my c-section. Basically as soon as they took all the wires out of me. My mum had to help as I was in quite a bit of pain but after a 24 hour labour I felt so grimy, the nurse gave me a bed bath not long after the birth.
