How long after birth until you took a shower?

Just as the title says, I was just wondering when people had a shower after giving birth? Did you go when there were visitors to supervise baby or when you were on your own? Did you wait until you got home? X

I showered about 2 hours post birth. Uncomplicated birth, no stitches and used gas and air. I had to successfully breastfeed before I was allowed to shower. DP done skin to skin while a really lovely HCA helped me in there. I bled a lot though while walking to the shower/showering as didn't lose much blood while in labour. I came home the same day so didn't make it onto the ward either.

So quite quickly after birth bi I remember the midwife saying wowo you've cleaned up after yourself.... I was literally wiping down and mopping up the bathroom I'm not sure why 😂 I was so desperate to get home I wanted no sign of excessive bleeding or large clots.... Which I did pass with the last I just knew I wanted to be at home ❤️

About half an hour after DS2 arrived and an hour after DS1.

The first time my mum helped out while DH stayed with the baby, second time the midwife helped me to the shower while DH stayed with the baby.

I had a bath with no 2, about half an hr afterwards.
Very drugged up with no 1, born at 3am, so can’t remember

I had a general anesthetic EMC, so it was the next day. About 16 hours and my DD was in the NICU.

first baby the midwife insisted i showered within... i mean time is ? when you've just had your first baby but it was within 2/3/4 hours of delivery. his dad stayed with him whilst i shuffled down the hall to the bathroom leaving a bloody snail trail.

second baby they didn't make me shower, even though i had an en suite! they just made me wait until i had wee-ed a certain ml then i was free to go.

two 'normal' 🤪 deliveries.

Probably a few hours after birth I asked if I could shower, we were still in the delivery room which had an en-suite. Midwife told me to leave the door open so DH could keep an eye on me whilst he sat with the baby.

About an hour after no 1 I had a lovely long bath (Actually only about 20mins long, but I remember it fondly) while she snuggled peacefully with DP.

After no 2 I had eagerly went for a shower (different birthing unit, no bath) expecting a similar blissed out experience about 40 mins after the birth and DC2 screamed the place down until I returned cold and barely even damp 3 minutes later.

She still won't let me have a shower alone 2 years later Angry

I had a bath about an hour after. Don't think there was a shower option?

Thinking about it now seems a bit strange but my friend was there and she held the baby while I was in the bath.

🤷🏻‍♀️

With my first I had a spinal block after the birth as I had a 3rd degree so didn't have a bath until I got home a day later..second i was up and about almost straight away and showered within the hour and then went home. Hoping for same again this time but who knows lol

SleepySheepy · 05/06/2020 23:39

I had a lovely shower a few hours after birth with my 2nd, I had a brilliant calm home birth, had all the snuggles, let the midwives hang around for their hour of observations and then after they left let DH hold DS2 while I took a nice shower.
The only annoying bit was when I took off my glamourous pants to get in, dripped blood on the floor, bent down to wipe it up, dripped more blood on the floor... I started to wonder how I was going to get out of that cycle!

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 05/06/2020 23:44

About 6 hours with DS1 - he was 9lb 7oz and back to back so I ended up with an epidural. DS2 was smaller and completely natural so about 30 minutes, tbh...

Mammyloveswine · 06/06/2020 08:02

After I'd been stitched up... first time round I remember being shocked by my massive swollen fanny but I had an episiotomy. It wasn't as bad second time!

DH looked after the babies!

With DS2 we never left the delivery suite! Was home a few hours later enjoying a glass of wine and a Big Mac!

Tarararara · 06/06/2020 08:14

About half an hour after birth. I could be misremembering but I think I had the shower in the birthing pool. DH was skin to skin with the baby.

passthemustard · 06/06/2020 09:37

Literally straight away! DH had baby while I showered and changed and I was settled back feeding baby when midwife came and said time for a shower. I was like - listen love it's all under control 😂

PlanDeRaccordement · 06/06/2020 09:40

Not long. Can’t remember exactly. I would have the baby, then the afterbirth, then nurse, then get stitches, then slowly go have a shower.

Shower was least of worries! It was first time using the toilet that I put off as long as possible....

OrangeGinLemonFanta · 06/06/2020 09:44

DD was born at 9pm, I wasn't repaired for another 2 hours, an hour in recovery then down to the ward. I showered the next morning.

DS was a section, I had recently had other surgeries too, i couldn't physically shower for about 3 weeks so I had to make do with sitting on a stool by the sink washing with a flannel, grim. Couldn't even do that until I got home so I was mostly unwashed for about 3 days. (This was not a good time in my life!)

Oblomov20 · 06/06/2020 09:54

C section, not the next day, but the day after, I think.

Bingaling30 · 06/06/2020 09:56

DS was born at 2am and then I needed stitches in theatre which took nearly 3 hours all in! I think I was given a bed bath in recovery and then was home by the following evening so I waited til then to have a proper shower! I'd had a spinal plus a catheter that was only removed a few hours before I went home and was severely anaemic so I was super dizzy standing up.

Irishprincess · 06/06/2020 10:01

Later that day, I had a water birth then they cleaned the tub and ran it again, it was huge and the best bath I've EVER had! Although my DH was there to watch DS
