How long after birth until you took a shower?

Just as the title says, I was just wondering when people had a shower after giving birth? Did you go when there were visitors to supervise baby or when you were on your own? Did you wait until you got home? X

The next day once I was home. Single parent so the baby lay in his Moses basket next to the bath.

Before I left the delivery room both times, there was an en-suite shower. Let my in-laws and parents have their cuddles while DH helped with my drip.

I waited until I went home so probably 12 hours after giving birth.

With my first it was probably the day after. It was a traumatic delivery, forceps and epidural, so would have been sometime the next day I think. With my second, I was offered a shower a couple of hours afterwards, but since the plan was to go home ASAP, I took one look at the hospital shower and decided to wait. It was probably about 6 hours...

Sorry add dc1 was in special care baby ward. Dc2 I had my mum look after baby although both babies were so sleepy ! When my mum left and I was in hospital I had never experienced having my baby with me in the ward as dc1 was admitted I asked the midwife what to do to get breakfast or make a cup of tea the said leave baby by the door as I was opposite the nurses station

DS1 they gave me a bed bath immediately after birth and I didn't shower until a went home next day.

DS2, nurse wheeled me into a shower room immediately after birth and left me. I'd lost a lot of blood and fainted as I got out of the wheelchair. I rang the emergency buzzer when I came round and grumpy nurse came to find me on my back having landed on the bidet and pulled it off the wall. She took me back to bed and gave me a bed bath.

About 14 hours later.

This was at Kings College hospital. I didnt get food or drink either until 10 hours after birth..i had no one there with me as 'dp' left to the pub to.'wet the babys head' alone. His mum had been encouraging this. Thing is he never stopped at one and she knew that.

My bed was bloody, sweaty mess. I was too exhausted to stand up or pick my baby up. I was too scared to fall asleep with no one watching the baby as it was a shared ward. i couldnt find or reach to the buzzer as i was that weak.
I had lost a lot of blood and was stitched.
I was on a shared ward with women in different pregnancy stages. Some were crying or shouting. Horrific.

With Dd1 I had to go to theatre for stitches after the birth and DD2 was a section, so both times I went first thing the next morning. I waited until babies were asleep then told the nurses I was going so they listened out for them.

As soon as I could get up had forceps and then a c section second time. Both times it was before visiting restarted in the morning so left the baby in the ward. First time I was next to a lovely woman who has her baby a couple of hours before me we helped each other by 1 of us staying with the babies for a shower breakfast etc. Second baby I just let the midwives know I was heading in because I had no one chatty in the ward to tell and didn't want to just disappear.

Best feeling after the toast getting clean again

Both the following morning with my DCs, but I didn't have straight forward births with either had to wait for catheters to be removed and the first time they were short staffed so it was my mum who came with me to shower she was a nurse at the time so fully knew what to do if I was to collapsed etc
Second time it was a c section so waited till I was discharged the following morning and had shower at home that was amazing

The next morning. My epidural took 12 hours to wear off so I couldn't stand until the next day. The midwife saw me at 5am to check I could walk, then kept an eye on the baby while I had the most satisfying shower of my life.

About half an hour after the first, there was a shower room attached to the (fabulous) birthing suite so I went in and showered off. I remember being vaguely fascinated by the sheer amount of blood running down my legs and being washed away. (I was euphoric and had been awake quite a long time Grin)

About 2 or 3 hours after my second birth, as it was in my ensuite on the postnatal ward so we'd been discharged from labour ward. I had an epidural with that one although I was basically back on my feet within about half an hour of the birth. Both uncomplicated vaginal deliveries.

Oh and either DH or a midwife was keeping an eye on the baby each time.

I had a strip wash after birth as I felt really quite I'll afterwards and vomited a couple times, felt too dizzy and wobbly to go in the shower. Then had a nice hot shower the next day when I got home

I can't remember to be honest but think it was at least a day or so after . I had a c section under general and DD was poorly in NICU.
I do remember it was horrible though - no water pressure, and not particularly warm! The shower door opened straight into the corridor so was constantly paranoid someone would burst in. Couldn't wait to get home but had to stay in for 5 days.

I was wondering the same thing. Due to covid all classes have been cancelled and haven't had a chance to ask midwife. Due any day now and DH will need to leave about an hour after the birth and not return until we are discharged due to restrictions so I'm not sure if I will be able to get a shower in when he is still there.
I have packed these large body wipes in case I can't get to the shower. They are like wet wipes but the size of a towel. I figure I can make myself somewhat clean with them until i get home on the off chance I'm not able to shower. I hope I can though as I think a shower really helps you feel more human.

After skin to skin, first feed and when DS was asleep...so I guess about an hour?

See, I don't understand why the dad/birth partner has to leave after 1hr to return at discharge... because surely by then leaving and going who knows where,it increasing the chance of bringing Covid-19 into the hospital??

Where as if they stay, the risk is less??
