Can’t believe I’m posting in the pregnancy section! After 2.5 years and saving for IVF I finally got a positive test yesterday after months of failed medications we caught naturally and I’m in shock!
However because I don’t have natural periods I have no idea when I ovulated so I’m wondering how early anything can be picked up on a scan?
Tempted to pay private but if I’m only around 5 weeks then I’m not sure if you can see anything?

Thanks all! X

I paid privately at seven weeks , worth every penny to put my mind at rest. I was told I could of had an even earlier scan at six weeks or even five and a half, but the chances of them being able to find a heartbeat at that point was really low, so seven weeks is a good time.
Tbh I couldn't see much, just a blob, but to hear the heartbeat and see that teeny tiny blob was one of the best days of my life.
Congratulations and Best of luck to you ❤️

Ahh congratulations! A heartbeat can be picked up from a scan at 6 weeks!

It took us 2.5 years and failed IVF to conceive our daughter, we were going to be starting our next cycle and we conceived naturally.
In IVF pregnancy they do a transvaginal scan at 6 weeks to see if there is a heart beat so that's how I know xx
Wishing you a healthy pregnancy! 😊😊

Thank you both!!

I have a midwife consultation on Monday over the phone so I’ll see if they’ll be sending me for an early one if not I’ll book for 7 weeks! Thank you xx

I had a scan at My EPU. They were able to pick up a heartbeat with an abdominal scan at 6+4. They also did an internal to get a clearer look.

Grandmi · 04/06/2020 10:00

Aah congratulations...💐

October2020 · 04/06/2020 10:02

6+1, clear heartbeat. Good luck x

Greengrapes1357 · 04/06/2020 10:05

I had fertility treatment both times. So early scans at 6 weeks - they do warn you though that they may not be able to see a heartbeat at 6 weeks though and they may have to bring you back at 7 weeks.

Scubalubs87 · 04/06/2020 10:06

I’ve had private scans both times at 7 weeks. For me, it’s been absolutely worth it to keep my anxiety in check.

DarcyParty · 04/06/2020 10:16

@Dixywitch19 congratulations, that's amazing, well done!

We had one at 7 w 3 days, you can see the fetal pole and a flickering heartbeat. I'd definitely recommend it to put your mind at ease :)

Dixywitch19 · 04/06/2020 10:22

Thank you everyone!

I’ll definitely book a private scan for the 7 week mark. My anxiety is all over the place! I have awful nausea but no actual sickness and painful trapped gas (ha sorry tmi!) but not much else.
I just can’t stop the emotional rollercoaster, I’m crying one second then laughing then crying again!

I had scan at EPU when I thought I was 6 weeks 4 they dated me at 5 weeks 6 and could see heartbeat etc Smile

BikeRunSki · 04/06/2020 10:26

That is fantastic news OP. I had a vaginal scan at about 6+5. Could see heartbeat.

I hope everything goes smoothly for you.

rocknrosie · 04/06/2020 10:28

i had one around 7w privately due to TTC for 5years and me not believing the test!

congrats though

PrincessHoneysuckle · 04/06/2020 10:30

8 weeks. You could see a tiny blob with a heartbeat

Dixywitch19 · 04/06/2020 10:48

Thank you everyone!
I’m so nervous x

I went at 8 weeks. He looked like a little rubber ducky with a heartbeat!

I think you're right to wait for 7 weeks, you can see a heartbeat from 6 but I imagine the stress you'd feel being sent away to come back the next week because it was a bit too early would not be worth it!

LillyLeaf · 04/06/2020 11:15

My earliest scan was 5+6 (at the epu due to bleeding) and it was IVF so my dates are spot on. I saw the heartbeat.

toomuchteaandcake · 04/06/2020 12:20

7 + 3 and saw the heartbeat clearly

mobear · 04/06/2020 12:25

3-4 weeks on the NHS but I had no clue as to how far gone I was.

Pleasenodont · 04/06/2020 12:35

I had a private one once at 5+6, it just looked like a tiny full stop on the screen. Also had a NHS one at 7+2 which showed a bean type shape with a flickering heart. Miscarried that pregnancy though so never bothered with early scans again.

Whiffle77 · 04/06/2020 12:42

You probably wont get an early scan through NHS at the minute, but there are lots of private places.
If you are unsure if your dates then I would err towards going for when you think you are 8 weeks - if you were a lot earlier they may not be able to see much which would mean paying for another scan and lots of potentially unnecessary anxiety! Smile

otterbaby · 04/06/2020 13:17

With my first, I went at 6 weeks on the dot and they saw a heartbeat. With my second, I went at 6 weeks again and they said I had already miscarried. Went for an NHS scan a few days later to confirm and there was a heartbeat 😳 currently 22 weeks pregnant now. So that second one would probably put me off having another early one!

sel2223 · 04/06/2020 14:03

My first scan, i thought I was 7+5 going by LMP but it turned out I'd ovulated later than thought and baby only measured 6+1. There was a heartbeat but I know I was lucky as sometimes there's no hb until 7 weeks.

I went back 2 weeks later and baby was 8+2 and looked more of a familiar shape rather than the tiny blob on the first scan.

I'm now 30 weeks so all was fine but I was told it's not uncommon for baby's to measure differently on early scans. My advice would be to wait as close to 8 weeks as possible just incase there's a discrepancy. There's more to see then too.

bluebell94 · 04/06/2020 14:06

I thought I was around 7/8 weeks but showed 6+6 on the scan. Just a little blob with a lovely strong heartbeat but it was so reassuring! Congratulations Smile

Marybird · 04/06/2020 16:54

I recently had one at 5 weeks and one at 7 weeks. You don’t see much at 5 weeks but I was anxious and it was very reassuring to see the yolk sac and to know that my cervix was the correct length, etc. I think that we have to do what will keep us calm, if you want and can afford a scan, do it!
And congratulations!
