Can’t believe I’m posting in the pregnancy section! After 2.5 years and saving for IVF I finally got a positive test yesterday after months of failed medications we caught naturally and I’m in shock!
However because I don’t have natural periods I have no idea when I ovulated so I’m wondering how early anything can be picked up on a scan?
Tempted to pay private but if I’m only around 5 weeks then I’m not sure if you can see anything?

Thanks all! X

I was bang on 6 weeks (ivf babies) for my first scan which was private.

Congratulations!

7 weeks but only measured around 4.5-5 weeks so nothing apart from gestation sac. Went back 2 weeks later and embryo had started forming but no heartbeat detected. Told to wait 7-10 days but started bleeding midway through and the scan that was meant to to check the heartbeat was the scan we found out I was potentially miscarrying. Miscarriage confirmed 5 days later although my body held on for another 5 weeks before passing everything

The earliest I’ve seen a heartbeat is 5+4 but I was absolutely sure of dates (including when I ovulated). If you don’t know ovulation date then I’d go with 7 weeks as you should be able to see a heartbeat then (assuming your cycles aren’t really long).

Thank you everyone! Does anyone know of a private place in Leeds or around Leeds?

4 plus 5, no heartbeat yet. Went back a week later and saw the heartbeat. Personally I'd book the scan for 7/8 weeks then even if you're out on your dates, which is really common, you'll likely still see the heartbeat.

Is there a window to the womb near you? Xx

Try groupon to see if there's any good deals near you

Hi, I have what might be an odd question about this. I've heard that early scans are usually transvaginal. I'd quite like one, I'm 6+3 and hardly any symptoms and have had some intermittent light brown spotting. I'm not hugely worried about that atm. But if the scan makes me bleed/spot more that will undo any reassurance the scan gives. Or could the scan identify the cause of spotting? If anyone has any experience of this I'd love to hear!

sel2223 · 05/06/2020 07:32

@oliveroses I had an early scan which was transvaginal and had no spotting or discomfort whatsoever. It was absolutely fine.
The only thing I would say is, unless you are absolutely 100% on your dates, wait as close to 8 weeks as you can. It's not uncommon for baby to measure smaller and, if that happens and there's not even a heartbeat yet, it can be very stressful and upsetting.

oliveroses · 05/06/2020 08:10

@sel2223 thanks, that is good to know! I'll definitely wait - I want it to be a one time thing only (if at all possible!)
