Hi,

Currently only 4 people know of my pregnancy: my parents, one friend and DH (of course).

I have my 12 week scan tomorrow and we're starting to think about telling close family and friends. However, as I think I'm only about 11+1 or 2 tomorrow, not "officially" over the 12 week "safety bar".

Did you tell people of your pregnancy after the scan, wait till the "official" 12 weeks or wait till the screening tests come back?
Also if you put anything up on social media, did you wait longer?

I know this is very subjective and the answer is do what feels right for you, but I'd be interested in hearing everyone's experiences and points of view.

I told family and friends after the 12 weeks scan and work a little bit later on. This one though I had to tell F&F at around 7 weeks as our engagement party had been booked and paid for months by the time I found out, and obv they would have noticed me not having a drink at my own party 😳

Parents and in laws after 12 weeks, everyone else after 23 weeks. Waited for the 20 week anomaly results but couldn’t get all the measurements at 20 weeks so had another scan 3 weeks later. Waited as had a miscarriage prior and didn’t want to have to tell everyone if we lost this baby x

Small update: I think we've finally got enough courage to tell the in laws and the close friends and family today.

Courage not because they'll take it badly but as we've kept it in for so long it feels weird to say it out loud now.

Thank you for all your stories! They've really made me smile!

I found the whole telling people really cringe-inducing so some people worked it out when they saw me holding a baby! My parents and inlaws we told after the scan and my work before that as I wanted the protections offered, basically!

Not telling till after the 20 week scan. We had bad news before and the well-meaning reactions did my head in. People really wanted to try to find a positive where there wasn't one and I got fed up with it.
