1 and 2 were complete rubbish in my experience
no 3 is very true thou!

PSCMUM · 20/09/2007 21:49

90 mins

fihi · 20/09/2007 21:53

2 days of 'threatening' i.e.in labour, go to hosp, contractions stop, stuck at 7cm...then pop waters and 45mins baby born!! GOOD LUCK!

fihi · 20/09/2007 21:55

Well labour for my third was about half the length of the second (four hours instead of 8 - so still plenty of time ); he arrived bang on his due date, and yes he fits in really well (but dd1 and dd2 are much older so help out a lot). Have since had a fourth so it's not that bad really!

katepol · 20/09/2007 22:00

In terms of labour, dc3's labour was shorter than #1, but longer than #2. Pregnancy went over longer than with #2, but not as far over as #1.
Labour was fine all 3 times. Second stage with #3 was quickest (10 mins from first proper pushing contraction to out).

In terms of character, dc3 is not as laid back as #1, but not quite as feisty as #2. He is the most physical though, in an attempt to keep up with his siblings lol!

Good luck - enjoy!

Miaou · 20/09/2007 22:02

oh yes fihi, that's a point, with ds1 my labour kept starting and stopping for a week before he was born (same with ds2) - did my bloody head in!!

LadyTophamHatt · 20/09/2007 22:05

my labour with ds3 was 2hrs 16mins
he was 6 days and he and fitted into the family without a single hitch.

Sazisi · 20/09/2007 22:13

All 3 of my labours were between 7 and 8 hours long; they didn't get shorter at all.

My 3rd was one day early

She is quite laid-back; bit of a pet, but then that's probably my fault

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 20/09/2007 22:18

1). Yes. Less than 1 hour and only 3 pushes.

2). Yes. 1 week early.

3). Yes and No. Routine was easier, sleeping was good. But she cried if anyone looked at her until she was almost 2yo (except for immediate family, fortunately!).

That's not what you wanted to hear, is it?

marchbunny · 21/09/2007 11:55

Hi Greedy

My ds3 is 11 weeks tomorrow, he has fitted in superbly, and his older brother 7 and sister 4 adore him. As for being easy, well, he has been to the cranial osteopath twice (one more session to go) and is now a really settled baby. He was suffering from colic and bad wind , and was crying with the pain! I don't feel like I ever stop and even struggle to find time for a quick wee.

He was born a week early according to my dates and one day early according to scan dates. (cool birthday of 7/7/07!)

The labour was 7 hours. Although after my waters went he arrived 35 minutes later, not much time for the pushing stage!

My first labour was 22 hours and second was 4!! Only got to hospital with 40 minutes to spare. So I did not hang around this time!!

Hope that helps and good luck with dc3! 3 is the new 2 you know.

marchbunny · 21/09/2007 12:00

Meant to also say that ds1 and dd2 were born on there due dates, so ds3 was about the same, or a week early depending on who's dates you look at.

cupcakes · 21/09/2007 12:06

dd2 (my no 3) is a poppet - she does fit in so easily with the others. However, she doesn't sleep nearly as well as dd1 did

In fact, I am too tired to remember much about her birth. She was 10 days early (which was a surprise as dd1 was 5 days late) and I wasn't ready at all - we had the plumbers in and the central heating system was turned off the day I came home with her. In December.
The labour pains started as I was picking ds and dd1 up from school and she was born around 9pm (I can't believe I have forgotten the time already - I blame the fuzzyness on lack of sleep).

Once I was in established labour it did suddenly happen very fast: I was ready to push whilst the midwife was trying to tell me there was loads of time and a couple of minutes later she was born! The midwife had to shout into the corridor for help as she hadn't got anything ready yet.

Wilbur · 21/09/2007 12:08
  1. Got first labour twinge at 10pm, ds2 born at 1.20am (thank god for the home birth) but ds1 and dd had both had slightly faster than average labours also.

  2. NOT early - a week late.

  3. V easy in some ways - breastfeeding was about 1000% easier to establish than with others, and he slept well once I'd worked out he liked to sleep on his side. However, he was quite clingy - for the first 6 weeks he really didn't want to be put down, hated lying on the floor (mild reflux maybe?) and I thought I would still be hauling him about when he was a teenager. Then it just stopped, he calmed down and has been a delicious delight ever since, although somewhat feral due to me having used up all my supplies of discipline on the first two.

He has really completed our family though - so congratulations to you and enjoy your third baby.

Joash · 21/09/2007 12:11

10 days late. Waters broke at 10.30. No contractions until 11.40 and DS born at 11.55 ... like shelling peas - one pop and they're out

curlywurlycremeegg · 21/09/2007 12:13
  1. 4 hours
  2. T+9
  3. No spends the whole day being carried around in a sling as he screams when I put him down
Tommy · 21/09/2007 12:27

I had a 2 hour labour with DS2 and was worried, like you, that number would pop out in no time - epsecially when I started, I was picking DS up for nursery and DH was 2 hours away!

Had my first proper contraction at 3pm and DS3 was born at 9.30 so it all worked out ok in the end

Dinosaur · 21/09/2007 12:28

My third labour was actually longer than my second, which made it more bearable as number 2. was very wham bam thank you ma'am! It was about 6 hours in total, as opposed to a rather rushed 2.5 hours with DS2.

DS3 was born on his due date, the only one of mine to arrive bang on time.

DS3 was a pretty easy baby in some ways, but not in others. Like all babies, really .

mynameis · 21/09/2007 12:33
  1. no3 - longer than number 2 but still a manageable 8 hours
  1. T+5 (giving me a very lovely new years eve of labour)

  2. Would totally agree, Older 2 adore him and he was an easier baby, or maybe I was just older & more relaxed

NappiesGalore · 21/09/2007 12:52

hmmm... my own take on the 3 statements in op

1- my third was slightly longer than my second at no more than 45 minutes from first contraction to birth... BUT mine are fast, doesnt mean others will be. and third was 'slower' than no2 who was out in 25 minutes tops.

2-there is no 'normally' about early late first third whatever. my 3rd arrived 'on time' but i put no store in dates as specific as that. first was 2wks 'early', 2nd was 1 week 'late'

3-when they are little, 3rd baby kind of has to fit in with anything doesnt it?? my 3dr spent first 4 months either bf'ing, or in his fisher price swing seat (sleeping between feeds for up to 3-4 hours!)
he raises merry hell now hes 19m, let me tell you. that boy fits in around NOTHING

harleyd · 21/09/2007 12:54

11 mins start to finish
5 weeks early
fits in with everything

mymama · 21/09/2007 13:25

my 2nd labour was 1 hour 15 mins from waters breaking, contractions starting to ds1 delivered. All through the 3rd pregnancy I was told to hurry to hospital as it would be quick. 3rd labour was 4 1/2 hours from waters breaking, contractions starting to ds2 delivered.

6 out of 9 people I know with 3 dc had a longer third labour.

NAB3 · 21/09/2007 13:31

3rd baby, second labour was 12 3/4 hours from first contraction to baby being born. pushed him out in 7 minutes.

Gobbledigook · 21/09/2007 13:33

Ds3 was born on his due date. I woke up at 2.15am with definite labour pains and he was born at 4.45am.

I was in slow labour for a couple of days though - a bit achey, contractions on and off (I was 4cm dilated 2 days before he was actually born).
