@squashie34 pleased you got checked out and everything is OK. That's so interesting about dehydration as I know I'm definitely not drinking enough! Will have to watch that from now on.

sel2223 · 21/06/2020 12:09

@JMill13 I agree, it definitely sounds like a migraine. I had a couple in early pregnancy but none since then (touch wood).
They're awful so you, and anyone else suffering, have my full sympathies! Hope it starts to subside soon.

JMill13 · 21/06/2020 13:24

Hey, yep definitely a migraine. Still going strong 🙈 feel like absolute rubbish.

@oldestchild90s have been on codydramol since I was 15 for them but they don't really work great either though I'd kill for one now 😂

Been sleeping on and off today trying to shift it but no joy as yet. Haven't got any paracetamol left either so it's great fun 🙈 Father's day ruined now.. Feeling sorry for myself now so don't mind me!

@squashie34 glad everything is okay! I must remember that myself and start drinking more

mable88 · 21/06/2020 16:26

Just caught up on the thread, there's been lots going on today! We had our all day NCT class today which was really helpful, although a bit overwhelming - I nearly started crying when she was going through caesareans so I think I need to do a bit of work on that as that's clearly a bit of an issue for me! At the moment I am planning a natural birth so hopefully that will work out but obviously you never know how labour will pan out so there's always that possibility of needing an emergency C-section.

As for names, I think our little lady will end up being Madeleine Juliet, although our back up name is Emilia so theoretically we are waiting to meet her before we decide... I think in both our heads though she is already Maddie! Smile

2020Aug · 21/06/2020 18:43

I'm a bit behind, this thread moves quickly!

I'm in the 4am club too! So tired all of the time, I managed to get an afternoon nap both yesterday and today which has helped but unfortunately can't do that mon-fri!

@GYNisaliarWTF Violet is top of our list too if it's a girl 😍, I love it!
We have Ivy and Liliana as alternatives. For boys we are thinking Miles, or potentially Luca or Elijah. We have been having so much trouble with names, it feels like such a big decision!!

How did you find the NCT class all day virtually @mable88? We were meant to have an all day session but they changed it to just evenings. I have my last one tomorrow. We are hoping to meet some of the NCT group in a park in coming weeks so will be nice to see people face to face.

mable88 · 21/06/2020 19:10

@2020Aug it was good actually, I've really enjoyed all our sessions. It was a little overwhelming but only because we went through so much today (labour, ceseareans pain relief options, birth partners, changing nappies, how life will be different) and my back was pretty sore by the end of it having been sat at a desk for most of the day. But I went for a walk and called my mum straight afterwards and that helped and now I am feeling less daunted by labour and feel much more informed. Rather more daunted now by actually having a new born and how much it is going to change everything - I knew that it would, obviously, but she kind of broke it down for us hour by hour and seeing it in black and white made it much more real somehow!! Shock

sel2223 · 21/06/2020 19:13

@mable88 @2020Aug I've got my NCT course coming up next week, decided to go for it instead of cancelling as think I'll get alot out of it (even if I am on my own).
Mine is two full days - the next 2 Saturdays.

2020Aug · 21/06/2020 19:22

Hope you enjoy it @sel2223, I'm really glad I've done it and met some lovely people. I think having the group will be amazing once baby is here!
Glad you're feeling better @mable88, I think I'm much calmer now having a better understanding. Its actually the few days after labour I'm dreading the most!

squashie34 · 21/06/2020 19:29

Not sure if anyone has done this course yet - we did it yesterday and it was SO useful as first time parents for all the practical things once little ones are actually here. It's also like a webinar not a zoom so you can sit in your pyjamas and sort of come and go as you please. We've signed up for the full day course on the back of it as we found it so useful. It covered lots of bits the NCT course didn't x

So much to catch up on here!!

@squashie34 Good reminder about drinking enough. I wonder if thats why my baby sometimes goes quieter?

Has anybody else had a really bad back like twinges? Pretty sure its not labour as it only happens in certain positions etc,. Painful enough to make me wince and stop whatever I'm doing or saying though. And I've had it over three days. Honestly the noises I keep making!! I've got appointment with midwife tomorrow so will mention then to.

Name wise I don't know if we've settled on girl names, lots of good ones in the pot though. Sorayah, Lazuli, Aayliah, Sakura, and Aniyah. I like really unique names. As all of you though find that boy names are so much harder. So we only have one boy name not even a middle name yet which is a name we 'saved' since we had my daughter 6 years ago!!

@JMill13 Hope your migraine gets better soon. That sounds incredibly difficult.

cannotmakemymindup · 21/06/2020 20:17

@mable88 Sorry cesarean is worrying you. I had an emergency one for my daughter so if there's anything you want to ask about them please feel free! If I know and can help I will.

2020Aug · 21/06/2020 20:24

@JMill13 hope you're feeling alot better now or feel better soon!!

@squashie34 Thanks for the tip, i signed up!

Lucky08 · 21/06/2020 20:35

Help!! Bit embarrassed but just been having sex with partner and then felt water trickling out, leaving a wet patch on the bad about 3 / 4 inches, it felt a bit like I'd wet myself. This was about an hour ago and nothing since. Partner keeps telling me not to worry, but I can't help threating. I thought about calling maternity unit, but then don't want to waste their time as I went a couple of weeks back due to reduced movements and everything was fine. Also it's a bit embarrassing. Anyone had this at all??

cannotmakemymindup · 21/06/2020 20:53

@Oldestchild90s Yes lower back. So bad!

@Lucky08 You should definitely ring them to get that checked out. I haven't had that happen during sex with DH. However when my water went with my daughter I kept thinking I had wet myself at first.

OP posts:
mable88 · 21/06/2020 21:46

@cannotmakemymindup Thank you, that's really kind. I think my worry basically stems from the fact that I want to try and get through labour without an epidural, but then if I end up needing an emergency C-section and hadn't had one, then they probably wouldn't have time to put one in and I'd end up having a general and missing the baby being born. I know that I wouldn't be knocked out for too long and as soon as I was awake and met her I probably wouldn't care but just the thought of missing her very first moments makes me really sad. I have a bit of a phobia of hospitals generally, stemming from when I had my tonsils out when I was really young (sounds ridiculous but it was quite traumatic and I think that has made me anxious about being in hospital/surgery ever since). Also a bit nervous about the recovery period afterwards and not being able to drive, lift anything etc.

Just trying to reassure myself that emergency c-section is just one possible outcome and there's every chance I won't need one. Now I'm getting towards the end of pregnancy and having to think about all the possible labour options, I'm finding it stressful to not be able to have a definite plan and not knowing how it will all pan out - I like to have a plan and be prepared! But I suppose everyone goes through this and all we can do is think through the possible scenarios and have preferences and then just go with the flow when the time comes!

Anyone else massive overthinking or is it just me?!

@Lucky08 I would definitely give them a ring, even if it's just for reassurance. Try not to be embarrassed, I doubt you would be the first person ever to ring with this query. My midwife said that there's not a lot she hasn't been asked about!

Lucky08 · 21/06/2020 21:50

Well I called, she told me to wear a pad and monitor for an hour. I'm guessing if it's my waters leaking it will be wet within the hour. She said it could be bladder overflow, which I take as you may have actually of wet yourself. Blush (and I thought I had pelvic floor muscles of steel). The Joy's of pregnancy

sel2223 · 21/06/2020 22:08

@mable88 I'm having to have an ELCS and i'm terrified....more by the recovery element than the op itself but the whole thing just seems like it's very 'real' and close now.
It sounds like you're thinking worst case scenario which is good from a mental preparation point of view but hopefully it won't get to that on the day (or night).

@Lucky08 you did the right thing ringing up. Fingers crossed all is OK. Good luck.

cannotmakemymindup · 21/06/2020 23:14

@mable88 @sel2223
So with my emergency C-section it wasn't an 'emergency' in the truest sense, of life in danger to either me or baby. I think that's a possibility to remember, all C-sections get called emergency if they're not prebooked electives. So I wasn't asleep for my C-section, I had a spinal not epidural when I went into the operating theatre. I even walked with the surgeon down to the operating theatre, got introduced to my lovely anaesthetist, then everyone else in the room and explained why they were there, what there job was etc,. Then my DH got scrubbed in and sat with me to. Honestly it was a very chilled experience even though it was a big operation and there is quite a few people in room some for you, some for baby.

I to don't want to have one this time, due to recovery being slower than natural, but I'm fully prepared for needs must myself. And I know how quick it was all over. Yes I didn't get to hold my daughter first, my husband did for the first 40 minutes of her life but they have such an incredible bond which started straight away!

mable88 · 21/06/2020 23:29

@cannotmakemymind up thank you so much for sharing your experience, that’s actually really reassuring to hear about. I’d also thought about my husband having first cuddles which would be really nice for him - I think otherwise I might be a bit possessive over baby and want all the cuddles for myself! 😂😂

cannotmakemymindup · 21/06/2020 23:43

@mable88 that's okay. It's nice to be able to reassure you and others. Reminds me to chill, when i'm feeling a little overwhelmed as well.

Ah there's nothing wrong with wanting all the baby cuddles, newborns are rather irresistible.

@lucky08 Not during sex, but I lost a huge gush of fluid a few weeks ago, I had no urge to wee at all and it didn't smell of anything either. They checked my cervix and swabbed for amniotic fluid, which was negative, so they assume its just urine. Such a weird experience, the fact it didn't smell of urine threw me complete, it makes no sense... They were lovely about it, no judgement at all. Don't be embarrassed, I think it must happen a lot in these last months and weeks especially!

Superscientist · 22/06/2020 09:06

We had our first day of nct classes on Saturday too, we did 3 90 minutes sessions with breaks in between. It was run by a midwife on the unit where 7 of the 8 couples were planning on giving birth so it was good to get specific info for that hospital. The cesarean we covered was similar to pp, only in super urgent emergencies is a general required for an emcs. In most situations they either top up the epidural or put in spinal block if you haven't had an epidural. Partner can be there in the vast majority of cases and they allow skin to skin in theatre.

I ended up in triage yesterday too with reduced movements as she was only moving if I had a sugary drink. As soon as I was put on the monitor she started kicking it! The monitoring also showed I'm having mild braxon hicks contractions that I can't feel which is a bit weird!

How are things this morning @Lucky08?

How's the migraine today @JMill13? You haven't ruined father's day, you couldn't help getting a migraine. Don't get about the paracetamol, I had to take 4 x2 tablets a day for 6 weeks earlier in my pregnancy for bruised ribs and sternum and the doctors said it was OK. If you are prone to migraines it might be worth speaking to your gp about the first response medication mentioned by a pp. It has helped a number of my friends. You can get it otc but I am not sure if they would let you buy it pregnancy without doctors approval. I can't take it myself as it would make a health condition worse which is really frustrating because migraines are awful!

cannotmakemymindup · 22/06/2020 10:25

Had my 32 week appointment just now and still measuring big. So going to get a growth scan hopefully this week as I'm measuring 35 weeks! Very intrigued to see if it's big baby or they are due actually earlier.
