@DaisyDuke84 welcome to the thread! Smile

I had my whooping cough vaccine at 16 weeks, I'd had a midwife appointment and she told me to book it so I just booked at reception on my way out (this is going back a few months to a simpler time!)

As for antenatal classes, hubby and I are starting our NCT course tomorrow, it's being done through Zoom. At my midwife appointment last week, I was given a website with the NHS online classes, that's all online but prerecorded I think so we can dip in and out of those whenever. Might be worth asking your midwife at your next appointment if your local trust has an online antenatal class you can access.

JMill13 · 07/06/2020 12:39

Hey @daisyduke84 welcome!
I had my whopping cough vaccine at 16 weeks along with the flu jab, but I had to call to make the appointment myself, I was told to at my original 8 week midwife appointment.

I'm not doing classes but some of the ladies on here have started or are starting zoom classes instead, which might be helpful for you. I'd say talk to your midwife and see if they can direct you to the right place.

2020Aug · 07/06/2020 12:41

Welcome @DaisyDuke84, I had to book my whooping cough with my GP surgery so definitely worth calling.

I'm also doing virtual NCT classes. I'm really enjoying them, not as nice as meeting people face to face but it can't be helped with the current situation.

DaisyDuke84 · 07/06/2020 12:42

Thanks mable88 yes i will ask midwife. Im going to call timmorrow about vaccine as i heard it is less effective if u have it later. I want to do these classes think it will be good for other half too as he hadnt got a scooby do what is coming. He is just worried about nappy changing when LO arrives!Hmm

Superscientist · 07/06/2020 13:48

My midwife gave me the whooping cough vaccine at my 16 week appointment. Definitely chase it.
Our NCT zoom classes start on the 20th June

At first I wasn't sure how interested my partner would be in the pregnancy (he doesn't like talk of bodily functions but is fine with actual bodily functions) but then he started referring to her by whatever fruit/vegetables the sites compare the size too and the other day when I was ill he swaddled me in the duvet so he's clearly doing some secret research which is quite sweet!!

sel2223 · 07/06/2020 13:57

Welcome @DaisyDuke84 I just had my whooping cough vaccination last week at 29 weeks. I'd just give your GP or midwife a quick call and get it booked in (I think they say anytime up to 32 weeks is best).

I've got my online NCT classes starting on 23rd June. Strongly considered cancelling but quite looking forward to them now.

My OH is on lockdown in another country so is missing this whole pregnancy (first for both of us). I'm trying hard to keep him as involved as possible and he's really interested and supportive which is great. He's been watching YouTube videos with tips for first time dads bless him.

squashie34 · 07/06/2020 14:34

@sel2223 we've just finished our second NCT class today.. was really sceptical about it now it's online but it's actually been great! They set up a WhatsApp group with everyone in so people have been chatting and then during the course time, the instructor splits you off into breakout rooms of about 4 couples to discuss things so you get to know people.

I think they've really tried to do their best in the time's and it's nice to see new faces and know everyone is in the same boat. I've also learnt a lot about pain relief etc today!

mable88 · 07/06/2020 15:56

My hubby has calmed down a bit today and apologised for his freak out yesterday, bless him. Although he wasn’t very pleased when I told him we had NCT tomorrow evening (despite him getting the emails AND me telling him more than once 🙄). He’s missing some of the sessions anyway as he works shifts, so it would be nice if he could be enthusiastic about the few he’s actually able to join in with! He’s not the most sociable at the best of times so I’m a bit worried that they are over zoom - he generally does ok in person, despite him not particularly enjoying talking to people, but I think he will be pretty quiet via zoom. And I hope it doesn’t cause another panic about his life as he knows it being over!! I bought him a book about becoming a dad for his birthday and suggested he speaks to his dad about things but neither of these suggestions have been very popular! 😂 I know he’s excited and he’s always talking to baby and kissing my bump so I think he’ll be fine, I just don’t want him to spend the next two and a bit months panicking and not looking forward to baby arriving.

squashie34 · 07/06/2020 19:57

@mable88 have you tried the commando dad books for him? Your OH sounds exactly
Like mine as I can't get him to look at any of my books or online courses but he actually loves these books (because they're pathetic and gimmicky to a female but calling your child a baby trooper and the mum the commanding officer apparently is funny to a Male 🙄) and when one of the other dads to be started talking about it on our nct zoom on Thursday he actually joined in and spoke about it (was the only thing he said on the whole course but I know it's out of his comfort zone doing social things online as he hates stuff like that- I had to keep telling him to stop watch the tv above the laptop because all you could see where the whites of his eyes 🤣🙈)

mable88 · 07/06/2020 20:24

@squashie34 ooh no not heard of those books, I’ll have a look - thanks for the tip! We got sent a quiz to do before the session tomorrow and he did that with me quite happily (and we got all the answers right! 🥳) so we’ll see how the session goes tomorrow! 🤞

squashie34 · 07/06/2020 20:52

@mable88 let us know how it goes!!

Oldestchild90s · 07/06/2020 21:24

@squashie34 i'm not sure if i could do the online zoom thing, my anxiety is the worst.. i want to meet new people but i'm so so scared at the same time 😭

Firstmummytobe · 08/06/2020 08:06

Good morning everybody!!
Sorry I have been so quiet, I ah e taken the last few days just to relax and be at peace with baby!

So update for you all, baby is doing absolutely great and he has been giving me the biggest kicks and thumps :) So hospital discharged me the day after, I have been going in since for daily CTg scanning however he was meeting the criteria every time so they have told us we don’t need to come back every day.

I’ve been placed on high risk growth scanning so my next is Friday where I will get to see little blue bean and know exactly how he is getting on in there and wether he is meeting all of his growth percentiles. (He has bee just over them the whole way through the pregnancy so for him to drop below could mean warning signs.)

I have been suffering from migraines and a LOT of heartburn which they thought may be warning signs for preeclampsia considering there was protein in my urine, but all tests came back NEGATIVE :) :) :)

On last scan baby’s head was engaged right down in the pelvis and he doesn’t really tend to love position anymore which means jelly bean is getting himself all prepared to meet mummy and daddy!

I’m 32+3 today (technically due 31st July but who’s counting!)

Hope everybody else is doing well ❤️❤️

JMill13 · 08/06/2020 08:30

@firstmummytobe good morning! Very glad to hear all is going well. Fingers crossed all comes back normal on growth scan too. Amazing news 😊

Anyone else keep waking up on their backs? I know we're supposed to sleep on our sides and back is bad but my body just doesn't seem to stay on the side no matter how often I adjust myself in the night. When my heartburn is especially bad I seem to end up on my back even more. I've tried normal pillows and a 12in U-shaped pregnancy pillow, neither have stopped me rolling over and staying that way.

Flutterbunny · 08/06/2020 09:01

@Firstmummytobe - I am so pleased you are home and baby is doing well! I hope you are taking it easy and looking after you too- you’ve had a stressful couple of weeks xx

@JMill13 - I also woke up on my back this morning - for me I’m getting terrible back pain and I’m finding sleeping on my side really painful. I’ve got a pregnancy pillow which doesn’t seem to be helping, I saw a pillow that you can get which I think stops you rolling onto your back but I’ve forgotten the name of it so I’m going to do abit if research today x

Flutterbunny · 08/06/2020 09:06

Ok I found it really quickly! It’s the Dreamgeni maternity and pregnancy pillow. At £47 it’s pretty pricey but I’ve read some good reviews on it and JoJo website has 15% off at moment - does anyone else have one or know if they are any good?

cannotmakemymindup · 08/06/2020 09:17

@Firstmummytobe I had been wondering how you and baby were. Really glad to hear you are home and doing okay and baby is a lot more active. Hope your growth scan goes well, it is always a treat to see them again on screen.

JMill13 · 08/06/2020 09:34

@flutterbunny ooh will check it out, thank you. Maybe OH will feel like treating me. My left hip gets so sore while I side sleep now, so think that's probably why I keep going to my back it's the comfiest. I've never been a back sleeper, was always front or side. Bodies are weird.

squashie34 · 08/06/2020 09:57

@Flutterbunny I had this pillow in my second trimester and to be honest it didn't stop me from rolling on my back at all - it was fine when I was a bit smaller but I've had to trade up for a pillow that is full length both sides and I think it helps so much - more because I can't just stay sleeping on my left because I get a dead hip so I have to roll into my right and the dreamgenii only has a small back but there so couldn't rest my bump on it. If I do wake up on my back my hip is raised because it's on the pillow still so it's not flat if that makes sense.

This is the one I have now - warning it is huge 😆 but I love it and you can also reposition it for sitting on the sofa etc. I do roll over in the night though and find my OH cuddling the other side so have to kick him off!

JMill13 · 08/06/2020 10:12

@squashie34 awh man that looks so much better than the one I have. Mine is 12ft so huge and I've actually stopped using it unless my back/hips are sore but any time I have used it in bed, I've woken up to find the OH cuddled up to the other side. So funny.

My bump is still quite small so it doesn't even feel like there's any pressure from it when I lie on my back which I've read I should.

StephD2020 · 08/06/2020 10:19

Oooo @squashie34 that's the one I've got and yes, it's absolutely massive isn't it! But I will say it's amazing and gives you a great nights sleep. DH has been snoring loads lately so last night the pillow, bean and I slept on the sofa and OMG - best nights sleep in ages! Woke up with creases all down my face where I clearly just didn't move! 🤣 I've got it in the grey velvet and it's so soft and lovely.

@firstmummytobe that's brill news about getting the all clear. Must have been a worrying time for you so you can breathe a sigh of relief now!

@oldestchild90s we have our second class tonight on zoom and whilst I'm much more of a meet in person kind of girl, I have to say they are really well organised. We have ours with bump and baby and they are great. Loving having a little group of ladies near me who are all pregnant in this weird time. We've been chatting non stop on our whatsapp group. I would say bite the bullet if you can and get signed up! X

MaisieMolly · 08/06/2020 10:21

@Firstmummytobe so glad to hear you and your baby are ok, I’ve been thinking of you! Xx

I’m also waking up on my back sometimes, midwife says it’s ok as long as I go to sleep on my side and turn back onto side whenever I wake up. I was a front sleeper before so it’s taking some getting used to! My bed isn’t big enough for one of those crazy pillows!

It’s still weeks until my next midwife appointment and even then it’ll be over the phone! It will have been 6 weeks since my last appointment (one at 28 weeks and then at 34) is it the same for everyone else?

Bert2020 · 08/06/2020 11:27

@MaisieMolly I have the 28 week tomorrow and then the next will be around 34 also.

cannotmakemymindup · 08/06/2020 11:28

@MaisieMolly I had a face to face appointment at 28 weeks then I'm due one at 32 weeks again face of face.

I am sure that the RCOG guidelines have updated for certainly later pregnancy to be face to face appointments not over the phone. So that doesn't sound correct for your appointments at all.

mable88 · 08/06/2020 11:37

@squashie34 that’s really similar to the pillow I have and it’s just the best thing ever!! So comfy, I fully intend to use it forever 😂 hubby less keen on that idea as he says it takes up more than my half of the bed!!

@Firstmummytobe so glad everything is ok and you’re able to be home now!

@MaisieMolly I had my 28 week appointment last week (was actually 29 by then but that was so there would be time for my GTT and blood results to come back so they could be discussed) and then I was booked in again for 32 weeks. These were/are both fave to face. I’m sure I read somewhere that after your 16 week appointment that all appointments should be face to face, as blood pressure/urine checks/ bump measurements are really important to monitor as you get towards the end of your pregnancy.
