Sex after episiotomy

I know this is such a weird and personal question but how long was it after you had the episiotomy did you have sex? They say to wait 6 weeks but seems like an awful long time especially where im already feeling much better after 2 weeks...

Sorry I don't have an answer to your question but your username made me double-take - Pudney is my maiden name! You don't hear it often! X

Nquartz · 16/05/2020 17:59

I waited 3 months! As did a friend of mine

Nquartz · 16/05/2020 17:59

I could barely sit down after 2 weeks Blush

PeppasMuddyPuddles · 16/05/2020 17:59

I wouldn't have chanced it before my 6 week check up.

doughnutmuffin · 16/05/2020 18:02

I didn't have an episiotomy however I waited about 7 and a half weeks before having sex again and tbh I think I did it too soon. I had a very straight forward labour and felt well but I certainly wasn't back to normal (tmi but not as tight). It was uncomfortable and I didn't enjoy sex again until a few months or more after the labour. Also there maybe a possible risk of infection? So I'd wait a bit longer

GrumpyHoonMain · 16/05/2020 18:05

I waited 4 months. You probably shouldn’t even consider it before your 6 week check up because you don’t know how it’s healing internally. A friend of mine manage to tear hers open again having sex after 4 weeks so you do need to be careful. It’s not the same as tearing because a tear goes via natural breaks in your tissue.

coffeeaddiction · 16/05/2020 18:07

11 weeks which I found hurt so waited another few weeks to try again

Isadora2007 · 16/05/2020 18:09

When you feel ready to.

MichelleOR84 · 16/05/2020 18:12

I was given the go ahead at my 6 week gp appointment. I couldn’t have imagined doing it before then but I was quite sore .

I was advised to wait until 6 weeks by the way .

Luxembourgmama · 16/05/2020 18:14

5 weeks after a grade 3 read and it was fine really. I was sooo nervous and dreading it. I had lost of a bottle of champagne first though.

Luxembourgmama · 16/05/2020 18:15

I should add I had been to the doctor at 5 weeks and only chanced it after she gave me the go ahead.

Purplequalitystreet · 16/05/2020 18:15

6 weeks after an episiotomy. It was fine.

Laurenpudney · 16/05/2020 18:16

Yeah I wasn’t planning on doing it anytime soon just wanted to see how long other people waited. Definitely won’t be trying anything until at least 6 weeks! I think from reading everyone’s comments it will most likely be a few months anyway.

I was about 4 months. No way was I healed enough after 2 weeks but we're all different I guess. Sex feels different to me now due to the scar, sometimes painful.

cheesesandwhich · 16/05/2020 18:19

I waited 3 months, couldn't bare the thought of it before that. I'm four months pp and feeling a lot more normal...

NameChange30 · 16/05/2020 18:19

Mine was still painful after 5 months! You'd be mad to try before your 6 week check. Make sure a doctor, midwife or nurse has checked and is confident it's all healed nicely before you try.

mrspotatohed · 16/05/2020 18:21

I had a 2nd degree tear and I waited til about 8 weeks PP. It was a bit u comfortable but nothing really bad, it's been the same everytime since though, a little tender still at the start, I am now 14 weeks PP

Laurenpudney · 16/05/2020 18:24

Yeah I'm still pretty sore, wouldn't dream of trying anything soon... just thinking about it is terrifying me!!

DramaAlpaca · 16/05/2020 18:26

Six weeks after DC1.

JustAddCoffee91 · 16/05/2020 18:27

Yeah I'd wait it out, and also if your not planning on getting pregnant again I'd make sure you go on contraception your extremely fertile the 1st 3 months, I got pregnant 3 months pp.... blessing in disguise, but when I was heavily pregnant the pressure made my episiotomy scar really sore, like unbearably sore 😲

weegiemum · 16/05/2020 18:34

I had a 2nd degree year rather than an episiotomy and waited 7 weeks, then another 2, then another 2!

Don't underestimate how bruised you are. Good luck!

PopcornAndWine · 16/05/2020 18:55

I waited the 6 weeks, but then got a very small
tear so had to wait another 2 weeks. All good after that!

FloreanFortescue · 16/05/2020 19:01

To be fair it was about 6 weeks before I fully stopped bleeding/spotting!! Mine took a long time to heal, the stitches dissolved too quickly and left a lovely gap for a long while. I don't think I would have wanted to before that but then everyone has a different experience.

SnuggyBuggy · 16/05/2020 19:07

About 3 months because I couldn't be bothered before that. The episiotomy wasn't a problem but I had dryness issues for a while which I think was breastfeeding related that was more of an issue.

Istwowyes17262 · 16/05/2020 19:13

3 weeks with my first- and two weeks with my 2nd, forceps and stitches with my first and just a slight cut with 2nd and stitches.
Fully healed on both occasions, it felt slightly uncomfortable the first few times but the more we had sex the less it felt and was soon back to normal.
