Sex after episiotomy

I know this is such a weird and personal question but how long was it after you had the episiotomy did you have sex? They say to wait 6 weeks but seems like an awful long time especially where im already feeling much better after 2 weeks...

6 months.

Lochia didn't stop till about 8 weeks.

Episiotomy didn't feel better till around 12 weeks.

Tiredness didn't improve until 6 months.

Only then did DH and I feel up to it.

Don't really understand how anyone can be up for it after a few weeks even if their body has healed, the tiredness is such a vibe killer. You'll have a life time of sex to come so a few months hiatus is nothing when you look at the bigger picture 😊

Also in my nhs trust they don’t check stitches at 6 week appointments- didn’t even have a 6 week check up 2nd time around.

SnuggyBuggy · 16/05/2020 19:16

Didn't get checked either and I was the only person I knew to resist getting a mirror out Blush

DC1 - about 3 months. Episiotomy with stitches that took ages to heal and felt like I was sitting on razor blades for weeks

DC2 - I tore, had grazes and stitches but felt much better than being cut with DC1, felt up to sex after about 4 weeks but didn't stop bleeding until 7 weeks PP so that put me off (personally)

God no chance I was having sex within 6 weeks, i still felt like my insides were falling out when o stood up by that point Smile they do suggest 6 weeks as there is a risk of infection so I think I'd listen to the advice from the drs and wait 6 weeks. X

I had episiotomy and a 2nd degree tear. I waiting about 3 months.
It took me a while to heal and feel ready to do it, I was terrified of it hurting!
It didn’t though, but not quite the same as it used to be (7 months pp now) and like another poster said, occasionally it can be uncomfortable where I imagine the internal scarring is.

MobLife · 16/05/2020 19:36

First episiotomy-8 weeks
Second episiotomy-2 years

Having sex in certain positions is no longer possible due to the pain from the scarring, so it's been quite limiting in that respect however over time we've worked around it and it's fine. Am grateful for having an understanding DH! And extremely grateful to have walked away from my second labour alive with a healthy baby

Temple29 · 16/05/2020 21:01

Didn’t have an episiotomy but had a second degree tear and wouldn’t have felt recovered enough until at least 3 months pp personally. However I bled for 4 months pp non stop and my DH had surgery when baby was born so neither of us were recovered until the 4 month mark and I was fine with that 😊 also I wouldn’t have picked sex over sleep for the first couple months anyway.

It is scary though but wasn’t painful. Best of luck with your recovery.

About 4 weeks x

onetiredmummy13 · 16/05/2020 23:07

Attempted after 2 but managed after 3

onetiredmummy13 · 16/05/2020 23:09

Should add I was having 5 baths a day full of salt and I'm convinced this made me heal fast! Also was obviously very slow and gentle

rossKemp · 16/05/2020 23:10

It was about 3 months for me. Though I think this was perhaps more psychological than anything else. I had a straight forward birth but found that during sex the giving birth was all I could think about!

Figgygal · 16/05/2020 23:11

I think we were about 8 weeks
I swear it hurt for about a year

Yellowcakestand · 16/05/2020 23:24

A couple of months but it always hurt after that, no matter what I did.

Rachee21 · 11/11/2021 16:11

Hey I’m just wondering as this thread was a while back now are you still having pain I’m 3 months pp and still experiencing pain when I try to have sex so basically we’re not we just try every now and again to see if the pain is going and then are able to
