Starting to think about travel systems and not being able to get out and about to the shops is making things a little tricky!

Which one have you gone for/are you getting and why?

Following!!!

MaisieMolly · 14/05/2020 15:12

Following too!

bogoblin · 14/05/2020 15:13

We're going to look at the iCandy something or other and Bugaboo Bee 5... Hopefully shops will open so we can test in person! Don't really want to make a choice without actually having had a test!

raindrop84 · 14/05/2020 15:44

It's just a minefield isn't it! I'm not even sure where to start!

HelloViroids · 14/05/2020 15:47

@bogoblin those were the brands I’d been looking at - if you remember can you let me know which iCandy please? My head is spinning with the choice!

Babbabump · 14/05/2020 15:50

Why don’t you put your requirements then people can comment with what they bought for those. I walk the dog lots, live rurally, have horses so walking round fields lots so I have bought the Phil and teds sport :) I had the oyster for my first baby and it was definitely a town only pram but very lovely

Babbabump · 14/05/2020 15:51

And also pushed my friend Icandy round a forest path and there were so much vibrations that my wrists ached- that was he all terrain one too but probably lovely for smooth park trips etc

NelliePig · 14/05/2020 15:52

Uppababy Vista, wanted something of a good quality that will last for all my kids. Has the option to become a double too if I have a whoops and have them too close together. The basket is HUGE, the suspension and wheels are brilliant, the bassinet is certified for overnight sleeping, the seat for after the bassinet can take a very tall toddler/child and has plenty of adjustments such as foot plate, back recline and strap heights. Both parts of the pram come with a sun shade (spf 50) l, mosquito nets and rain covers. The quality of it feels amazing and lastly its bloody nice to look at! Also compatible with plenty of car seats if you buy the adapters, we didnt want the uppababy seat so went for a maxi cosi seat! Well worth the money, we looked at bugaboos too (didnt feel the quality was as nice) and silver cross (they folded up all bulky) and hadn't even considered the uppa baby until the shop assistant came over. Once she asked the budget she said that the uppababy would 100% be the one she would reccomend, but that the Bugaboo or silvercross were very good options for those on a smaller budget!
Hope that helps!! Xx

I had icandy which pairs with maxi cosi car seat with adaptors. It was great. Tbh I didn't use the carrycot pram part for long as my baby was a terribly refluxy baby so hated being flat but at about 4/5 months I got a baby insert for the seat part of the icandy and it was great. It tilts to 3 points so can lie flat for when they sleep. If you want to ask anything then let me know.

NelliePig · 14/05/2020 15:54

I should mention that the uppababy is not a pram for like public transport! It's fine for in shops, pushes and turns like a dream but is built to be able to withstand rough terrain too so is a fair size! X

raindrop84 · 14/05/2020 15:54

I'm looking for something mainly for around town with the occasional country walk, looks stylish, folds up reasonably small as our car isn't massive and most importantly easy to manoeuvre/light weight as I'm fairly petite!

OP posts:
HildaSnibbs · 14/05/2020 15:56

It depends on loads of things!

Will you be using public transport a lot - bus/tube ?
Will you be taking it in and out of the car frequently?
Have you got space to leave a pram up in the hallway at home?
Do you have lots of steps to your front door?
Do you live somewhere you need to be able to 'off-road' on fields / country paths?

Etc... Think about how you'll use it and then look for something that meets your needs.

2020firsttimemum · 14/05/2020 16:05

Like you OP I'm quite petite.

We've got for the icandy lime as it folds up pretty small and can be done with one hand using the strap, it's much more lightweight than some of the others we tested too and it looks nice! We went for the phantom chassis in the end.

It can't be made into a double but has a buggy board for older children too.

Also seen some good reviews on the bugaboo range too. Hope this helps

bogoblin · 14/05/2020 16:13

@HelloViroids

Ah that's my problem as well! I'm hearing that the iCandy is a bit heavier so since I don't drive I was going to lean to the Bugaboo...but my friend says their iCandy is excellent. It's SO hard to work out wtf you need from a pushchair!

@raindrop84 we have similar requirements to yours! I really don't want something too heavy if I have to get the bus with baby (obv all depending. Can I really bring myself to walk all the way into town? not sure!) and something easy to fold.

raindrop84 · 14/05/2020 16:16

@2020firsttimemum That's interesting, I haven't heard of the icandy lime, only the peach or orange.

Does anyone know the difference between the 3 of them??

We had it all picked out then had to go back to the drawing board when we found out we're expecting twins! The boots of our cars aren't massive either so we were quite limited in our options but I think we'll be going for the Out and About Nipper Double.

thismeansnothing · 14/05/2020 16:21

Got and love my icandy peach.

Had the peach jogger with my eldest 8 year ago and it was fab.

WK29 · 14/05/2020 16:28

Jumping on this too if you don’t mind!! Also starting to think about the possibility of potentially having to buy without trying Confused posted on the “products” section but not sure there’s much traffic over there! First time parents and the pram shop feels like the biggest minefield!!

Needs:

  • Stairs leading up to our house so can’t be too heavy
  • Will need to be used on public transport (bus & train) sometimes so nothing too bulky
  • Will be used mainly around town
  • We have a room that we can store the pram in when in the house so not too worried about the size for storage.
  • Needs to fit in the boot of a standard family hatchback (Focus/Astra sized).
  • Happy to have travel system or buy car seat separately.
  • Max about £1200 if getting a full travel system!

Any recommendations would be amazing! Or even any potential “needs” that we haven’t considered yet?! We really have no idea where to start!

2020firsttimemum · 14/05/2020 16:35

@raindrop84 I think the lime is a fairly newer style that they've brought out (I'm sure this is what the lady in John Lewis said)

The peach can be turned into a double but is more expensive and slightly heavier. Seems to be a really popular choice though. I don't think that the peach can be folded with the seat unit on it where as the lime can (another selling point for us) that might be on the older peaches though and that may have updated.

The icandy website is good because there's a section that tells you the difference between them all. No idea on the orange though, never heard of it!

Such a hard choice choosing a travel system

bananamuffin99 · 14/05/2020 16:36

What travel system would you recommend for someone who lives in London and using public transport? Due to being a bit older we would ideally like to have a small age gap between this baby and next, are there systems that can convert to twin if needed? My mind is blown by all the options, not helped by the fact I'm a natural cheapskate so I baulk at the prices haha!

DressingGown87 · 14/05/2020 16:37

I’m looking at the Bugaboo Fox 2 as I want something for all terrains, so I can still go on country walks.
I’ve booked a video appointment with a sales assistant at Mamas & Papas so I can talk through my requirements, and create a short list. Think they do it in store, so kind of show you round

Thesaltandthesea · 14/05/2020 16:39

This is DC3 and I think we are going to go straight for the BJCM GT2. We've had a Bugaboo and an icandy travel system in the post but both times switched to the city mini around 6 months. We are in and out the car a lot and go on lots of rural walks. I've also found I've used a sling or baby carrier more in the first year anyway.

Shmithecat2 · 14/05/2020 16:40

If you're intending to use a car seat on the pram chassis, I would suggest you think about the car seat/infant carrier first, then base your choice of pushchair/pram around that. The car seat does the most important job and should be considered before the rest.

raindrop84 · 14/05/2020 16:42

Egg is another brand that looks beautiful but you don't tend to hear much about them...any thoughts?

Banana muffin you might want to look at the bugaboo donkey. My son has bought this as they plan on a 2nd child close to their first, and it goes side by side for 2 but single file for 1. Their 1st was due last week but it seems to want to stay where it is.
