@skinnyhotchoc yes he really doesn't get it does he of that's his experience! It's crazy when they are that fast isn't it because you can't figure it out at all, and I had had a baby before, but I was like what is happening they are just ALL the time 😬. That's how the midwife I spoke too knew it was happening I guess as it was just continuous. Yes you'll have to just go as soon as there is a sniff of it this time

@Pe4nutsmum sorry I don't have Facebook so I won't be setting up a group, plus the original thread set one up so I think most people who are on here are wanting to keep it a mumsnet thing. But obviously feel free to set one up and link for anyone on here who is game

@Pe4nutsmum how are you getting on your end? I'm much better, though still incredibly weak and I absolutely already hate bending down to pick anything up, I am going to be ridiculous in a few months 😆

@skinnyhotchoc labour for my first was really quick too. My waters broke at 8pm and 8 hours later he was here. Never got measured to know how long my actual labour was and didn't get time for any pain relief. I got to the hospital just as I needed to push so lucky we left when we did. The hospital is 45 min drive away so a little nervous this time. We do have a midwife led unit much closer but I'm anxious to go there in case something goes wrong Confused

ChampooPapi · 24/05/2020 19:02

@NatalieH2220 lol my waters broke and my baby was born less then ten minutes later!

From first stomach pain to baby being born was about one hour 45 minutes 😬

PipTed · 24/05/2020 19:05

@Snowwhite2020 it’s my first too, but figured if it’s a straight forward pregnancy it should be ok? Saying that, I don’t know how I’m going to be with limited pain relief. 🙈

@champoopapi wow, I understand why you’re going for c- section with twins!

Anyway, we have a few weeks/months to decide and hopefully things will have changed by then (for the better).

ChampooPapi · 24/05/2020 19:09

@NatalieH2220 did you mean 8 minutes? 8 hours is a very standard time for first time labour's.

Yes you get people who have been in labour for 24 hours, but generally between 8-10 hours is the mean average.

Fast labour's are classes as under a couple of hours, that's when they tell you to plan a home birth so you don't end up giving birth in the car like I nearly did. I was activity holding the baby in and resisting all urges to push at their advise. Honestly if I had pushed earlier she would have come out before an hour I think from start to finish, it was mind-blowing

ChampooPapi · 24/05/2020 19:11

@PipTed yes can you imagine birthing twins in your own kitchen, it doesn't care thinking about does it. Of they were both the right way and all could be predicted to be smooth why not! But so highly possible one would be breech behind the other and it would be so dangerous. And so bloody painful!

OP posts:
ChampooPapi · 24/05/2020 19:18

@PipTed I've down one with pethadine and one with no pain relief at all and I have to say that they were both completely fine. Getting through the morning sickness stage was harder! God those weeks were awful for so many of us. I did love the pethadine life though, floating around feeling so send, really peaceful calm labour, no stitches, just fabulous. Floated out a few hours later with my baby and back home in time for Corrie..

So I was a little apprehensive when they said too late for drugs love! But it was completely fine, honest to God it was all over and done with so fast and it was just a day, just one day of my life, not like those weeks and weeks of neseua or if you think of all the other painful things, physical or emotional, you've had to go through in your life, that have lasted a lot longer then a day.

It's just one day of intensity and hard work, and pain yes, but it's for something that you get at the end and then you walk away from that day into the future with your baby.

Really you'll be absolutely fine @PipTed

TMI warning. I have a question about vaginal discharge. Mine is sometimes a little snot coloured, more cream coloured with a slightly yellow tinge. It is occasionally lumpy not like cottage cheese or anything but just a stringy lump every now and then, is this normal?

For those who are not FTM, how can you tell the difference between this and a mucus plug?

NatalieH2220 · 24/05/2020 19:30

@ChampooPapi 10 minutes?! Wow! Were you getting contractions prior to your waters breaking?

It was 8 hours from when my waters broke to giving birth. I have no idea how long I was in established labour as never got examined but somewhere in between. I can only go by what the midwives told me but they said it was quick. I've never given birth before so nothing to compare it to.

NatalieH2220 · 24/05/2020 19:32

@ChampooPapi Sorry, just seen you actually already answered that on your other post. I missed the last line. That's super fast!

ChampooPapi · 24/05/2020 19:37

@NatalieH2220 yes but only for just over an hour so whole labour was a bit over 1 and a half hours. For a first baby they often see people in labour for 12/14/16 hours. But between 8 and 12 is pretty standard for a first baby at the same time. Though still a good amount of time as some women really are there for days from their first contraction to the pushing phase. They'd probably just had some poor woman who had a 36 hour labour in before you!

I would definitely expect that time to half this time around but it can be the same as the last, or you could end up likee in the car screaming that you want to push!

It's crazy because both my babies came really within half an hour of my waters going but the labour time was totally different. Where as my friends waters broke and she was still in hospital on a drip being induced like 24 hours later.

I did lots of bouncing on one of those yoga balls, almost furiously by the week I was due, so I will definitely not be doing any bouncing this time

ChampooPapi · 24/05/2020 19:43

@NatalieH2220 there's faster that's for sure, I've been on a few quick labour threads over the years here and oh my god, some women were like '17 minutes from first contraction to baby coming!' or 'oh about half an hour, born in my bathroom!' 🤯

They are so intense and painful fast labour's your body goes from zero to a thousand in like twenty minutes. I finding remember the contractions now with my first.... One big one...then fifiteen minutes to sip some ice, breath my hypnobirthing and smile about my impending meeting of my baby, the zen of it all! I didn't scream or shout once through that labour I don't think.

The other one I literally was biting into a stress ball to stop from screaming the whole car journey over there. I let rip when I was there though! It was insane

skinnyhotchoc · 24/05/2020 19:43

@Pinktruffle it definitely looks different from discharge. It's more solid a bit like a mini octopus type thing 🤢Mine had a thread of blood through it as well. I was quite shocked by it. I lost it in the morning on the day I went into labour.

skinnyhotchoc · 24/05/2020 19:46

@ChampooPapi there's a precipitous labour group on fb. There's some scary stories on there. I'm hoping to convince them to induce me so I can get into hospital but my dd was a week early anyway so might not do me much good

ChampooPapi · 24/05/2020 19:46

@Pinktruffle I didnt see mine I'm afraid, it probably got flushed and I didn't notice with both of my last babies. What you describe doesn't sound like it at all though, I think it's much more of a solidified mass of gubbins rather then separated loose stringy discharge

OP posts:
Pinktruffle · 24/05/2020 19:49

Ah thanks @ skinnyhotchoc, that does sound pretty different. I Googled it and the images (which were a bit gross and unexpected) looked similar in colour and consistency but with a lot more. I guess it looks different in real life.

I read a thread on here yesterday about someone having a cervical shortening at 16 weeks and it's made me a bit paranoid which isn't great at this stage when there is constanct aches and pains and discharge!

Pinktruffle · 24/05/2020 19:50

Thanks @ChampooPapi. I think I need to stay away from other threads on here apart from this one!

skinnyhotchoc · 24/05/2020 19:51

I've just googled myself and there are lots of women asking about their pics. I would say this isn't a mucus plug just discharge.

ChampooPapi · 24/05/2020 19:54

@skinnyhotchoc yes it's bloody terrifying knowing it could not only happen early for you but that withing the hour of those feelings your crowning. I was born myself in Torbay hospitals lift so I am a quick labour baby. I mean how unhygienic is that as well?! You really don't want to be having a baby in an unsanitary environment, I can totally understand your concerns. With another child to have babysitting arranged for as well it is difficult for you. I just think when you get to about thirty five weeks your going to have to be on absolute red alert, and get to that hospital from that first rumblings everything is starting. Mine started both times with an upset stomach, as does alot of women's. It's the bodies way of emptying out before the labour so that could be the sign to phone your childcare and grab that hospital bag.

Or you could request a section I guess but your labour was still long enough to give you time to get there last time so I think as your really aware this time around you should be able to make it to hospital in time

OP posts:
Pinktruffle · 24/05/2020 19:57

Thanks @skinnyhotchoc! Yeah, it definitely doesn't look like that. Oh the wierd and wonderful of being pregnant!

skinnyhotchoc · 24/05/2020 19:59

@ChampooPapi my midwife last time put the fear in me. She said I would have to have a home birth and suggested asking my partner to do an infant first aid course 😕

Pinktruffle · 24/05/2020 20:02

Oh gosh, that would scare the life out of me too @skinnyhotchoc, not very supportive of her. It amazes me the things medical professionals say without thinking about the impact sometimes! I guess they get a bit nonchalant about it all as they see so much

skinnyhotchoc · 24/05/2020 20:03

Unfortunately my upset stomach happened as she was crowning. It was awful because I remember just panicking that my baby that I'd fretted over and nurtured for 9 months was going to come out covered in you know what. My mum has promised to take two weeks off work before my due date to come and stay. God knows what dh will make of that
