I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.
MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk
If you need help in obtaining medication, phone them on:
024 7638 2020
Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy
I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.
It has been suggested that I add some practical tooth cleaning advice: a lot of sufferers find using a child's small toothbrush and strawberry toothpaste far less nauseating.
On my image of a pink castle: that is an image I use because when I was little, my family had a Snakes and Ladders board with an image on the last square of a pink castle in the clouds. As Hyperemesis is so like a grotesque version of Snakes and Ladders - eat a meal, go up a ladder, first thing in the morning bile run, down a snake - I have used the image of that pink castle on the last square of that Snakes and Ladders board as a metaphor for the happy end of Hyperemesis.
Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Thank you so much @Snowwhite2020 - it really is a bit of a shocker. I feel so utterly useless. This is my first and it's really taking all the emotional strength I have not to cry all the time. 14- 20 weeks sounds not to long away but I'm only at the 8 week mark, so it's all a bit overwhelming. As you say, one day at a time may be the only real way to cope. Back to bed i go!

Snowwhite2020 · 30/05/2020 15:58

Wow this heat is not good for HG sufferers!

Seeker2020 · 30/05/2020 17:17

I'm actually feeling pretty chilly, even in this heat. Any other HG sufferers experienced this? Confused

Snowwhite2020 · 30/05/2020 17:59

@seeker2020 I am over heating and have had the worst sickness day in a while as a result! I haven’t even gone outside- just hiding in the cold and dark!

LucindaE · 30/05/2020 21:22

Aimz15 Most hospitals will admit you for IV fluids if you have ketones of 3 or 3+. I belie some will admit for IV fluids at 2+.
SnowWhite2020 My goodness, it was hot out there. Sorry you are suffering in the heat and the bad day. Excellent advice as ever. I so agree with you and KatieFTM. It is foul to throw up a few miserable sips of water after everything else. Sad
Pygmyseahorse Thank you for such kind words.
Seeker2020 Might that be low blood pressure? That is very common with this.
Apologies to anyone rudely overlooked.

Sorry to those struggling, sending you so much love. I've been a bit quiet, finding it a bit triggering. Trying to just take each day as it comes as still feeling very sick. I know it feels like you have the impossible journey ahead of you in the beginning but you girls are warriors and you'll find some great cheerleaders here, it's possible!!

@BeautyAndTheBump1 looking forward to hearing your happy news soon.. any day!! 😘

BeautyAndTheBump1 · 31/05/2020 06:23

Thanks for all the well wishes ladies! Grin

Now officially 'overdue' 🤣🙈 had a sweep on friday, cervix favourable - 1cm dilated.

Ate a curry last night - actually kept it down!!!

Chl00 · 31/05/2020 10:18

I know everyone’s different but just to let you girls know I had severe HG for the first 13 weeks of my pregnancy and I can say that it’s gone now, I still get nauseous from time to time (now 18 weeks) but I rarely ever throw up now, so there is hope that you won’t get it your whole pregnancy☺️

Seeker2020 · 31/05/2020 10:58

Thank you @Chl00 - that really gives me some hope. I didn't vomit yesterday, and only once the day before (sorry for TMI) but I still get the retches. Manged to keep down all my food yesterday which was a blessing, but this latent feeling of just being unwell is really quite something else. Another over-share question, I really have to wee a lot. Like A LOT, a lot...but I think it might be because I'm drinking too much water for fear if getting dehydrated. ShouldI lay off the intake a bit?

Chl00 · 31/05/2020 11:41

@seeker2020 glad I could give you some hope, sounds like hopefully you’re getting better!🤞 drinking water is great I couldn’t even keep water down for a while, don’t worry about peeing so much it’s just something you’ll have to deal with I’m afraid but keep drinking as much as you can I used to drink so much before I got pregnant and now I don’t drink enough, you’re supposed to drink a lot while pregnant, keep it up 👍

Snowwhite2020 · 31/05/2020 11:51

@chl00 thanks for this- here’s hoping!

@Seeker2020 if you are in your first trimester, this is just standard pregnancy stuff I’m afraid and if you have been very sick- I’d say it’s a good sign that you’re getting enough fluids. Severe dehydration is the main issue with HG and not peeing or very dark pee is one of the danger signs. So yay- gross and annoying but healthy! Gotta love pregnancy!

@BeautyAndTheBump1 you are a star and a warrior and you have one foot in the drawbridge to that pink castle girl....... so delighted for you! All the hard work of HG is soon to pay off and you will have your beautiful baby. All the love to you 💕🌈

Snowwhite2020 · 31/05/2020 11:52

*on the drawbridge

LucindaE · 31/05/2020 21:03

Chl00 Thank you so much for your encouraging message. I am happy you are so much better. Most sufferers do improve, fortunately; even those who are unlucky enough to suffer throughout, don't normally feel as bad later on as they did in the early days.
Mummyyay Thank you for your encouraging message too. I do hope that the nausea goes soon or anyway, dies down. Some sufferers do find discussing things a trigger, which is hard on them.
Seeker2020 Never worry about tmi. Everything needs to be discussed on here. As for peeing a lot, everyone does in pregnancy if not dehydrated, so that's good news.
SnowWhite2020 I will join you in cheering BeautyandtheBump up the drawbridge of the Pink Castle. BeautyandtheBump one cm is hopeful. Smile

IAmSeriousAndDontCallMeShirley · 01/06/2020 16:32

Hi everyone. Just caught up, seems many suffering- but also some very close to the castle!

I had a pretty good run over the past week (15 weeks) and wondered if this time I might not be sick all the way through. But today has been just awful. Out of nowhere. I'm a bit disappointed...

Is there a surge near 15 weeks? Or just bad luck? Xx

Pygmyseahorse · 01/06/2020 18:15

Hi ladies, struggling again so sorry for lack of personal messages..

Lovely to hear positive stories and better days..

Sorry to those suffering, I think a few areas are due cooler weather from Wednesday on so hopefully that helps a little if hot weather is not helping

I've had a bad weekend again, not great today but hauling myself about to do things with dd at least
My scan is on Wednesday and my anxiety is really bad due to worry baby will be gone etc. Been having pains today.. Low and quite sore so that's making my worry worsen
Just need to get through tomorrow and at least it's in the morning on Wednesday...

Hope everyone is as well as can be, sending love

LucindaE · 01/06/2020 20:42

Pygmyseahorse Poor you. It is a very tense time. The chances are on your side. I had pains on and off in the first tri, I remember, and they made me really anxious after an mc. There do seem to be a lot of unaccountable pangs in pregnancy which you really don't need when anxious. Sorry about bad weekend. I hope you are managing to keep hydrated.
IAmSeriousAndDon'tCallMeShirley There may well be a hormonal surge at around this time. I don't know about that one, though I do know of the 10 week and 20 week ones. I don't suppose the heat is helping. Some sufferers do have odd relapses, despite getting a lot better on the whole. With any luck, it is that. Asyou say, some are so close to that Pink Castle.

Snowwhite2020 · 01/06/2020 22:40

@Pygmyseahorse I am so sorry to hear about the pains and the scan anxiety. What type of scan are you going for? Have you had any blood? That seems to be the thing doctors always ask if you’re worried about pains.

I really hope you are alright. We’re all struggling on here but you are going through the wars, between one thing and another.

Try to stay calm and try to get some rest, as I am sure stress will not be helping anything (seizures sickness or pains.)

Love to you. You’re a warrior. You can do it 💖

Pygmyseahorse · 01/06/2020 23:44

@LucindaE thank you, I had pains with dd and earlier but could differentiate with type of pain so I knew it was stretching etc whereas these just don't feel the same. Trying to keep down water and weak decaf tea but not a lot staying down :(

@Snowwhite2020 hi, how are you?
Thank you for your message, no bleeding at all this pregnancy which is a good sign but these pains just feel different to usual :( I had a couple of major seizures in the last few days so hoping I've pulled something or hurt myself rather than anything else.
It's just the standard 12 week dating scan :)

Hope you are managing a little more sleep?

Sending love to all

Seeker2020 · 02/06/2020 07:37

Sending so much love to everyone suffering. It's a horrible thing to be going throughSad. How are you all managing to cope with LO's and work?

Xx

Pygmyseahorse · 02/06/2020 12:57

@seeker2020 hi, how are you feeling today?

Lo is running riot with toys out everywhere, TV and water play atm. I feel awful but can't physically walk far or do much at the moment. I'm really hoping it eases a little as I always baked with her and she cooked dinner with me every night which she keeps asking to do. I'm lucky she still needs her daytime nap because so do I! And dh working from home is helpful at times when he can do something quickly or take over after work or breakfast etc.

Luckily no work for me, I do still have to submit this last assignment though.. Pretending it doesn't exist atm!

I think between HG, pregnancy and post covid employment I'll be out of work til we move house, which is what we planned for - I'd like a full year with baby this time now I don't have studies

How about everyone else? Can't imagine coping to work still with HG!

Sending love to all, last day of this heat for many!

Seeker2020 · 02/06/2020 16:04

@pygmyseahorse - thank you so much for asking. You really are a trooper. We had a leaked in our bathroom that went into downstairs, so that's kept me distracted today. Just what I needed(!) Still felt super nauseous but the task of getting it sorted kept me distracted. I managed to eat a little this morning but fluids have been less since our water was turned off (no loo). Plumber is here now - hopefully we can sort something this evening so I can keep drinking and have a wee waa. Again, TMI....sorry. Am trying to eat toddler meals at the moment since they are bland and small. Obviously not huge calories but seems I can manage them for now. How are some of our other ladies doing?

LucindaE · 02/06/2020 21:32

Seeker2020 Never fret about tmi. On here there is no such thing. I hope they can sort out the leak in the bathroom.
Pygmyseahorse When did you say the scan was? I had an idea you said today, but I must have had it wrong. With any luck the pains might be pulled muscles from the seizures. A year off with baby sounds nice. DD will soon forget this period of comparative neglect, from all that I have seen on these threads, though I didn't go for it twice.
Lovely words from Snowwhite2020 as ever.
Apologies to anyone rudely overlooked.

Pygmyseahorse · 03/06/2020 00:01

@seeker2020 oh no what a nightmare, did it get fixed in the end?

That's so positive you are keeping food and liquids down, I'd not worry about toddler meals and calories and be super pleased with yourself for managing to keep it down!

@LucindaE it's on the morning, I'm so nervous but trying to keep my mind occupied, warm bath and making lists!
Even managed to keep down folic acid today though that was the only medication I still felt pretty chuffed!

Hopefully I can come on tomorrow with good news and an official edd. Just to get through the taxi journey and face mask without puking and peeing myself from throwing up!!

Good night ladies, sending love to all

Seeker2020 · 03/06/2020 07:24

Bathroom leak fixed for now. Ultimately its unusable as there is a leak in the inflow, but we have another bathroom we can use, thankfully. Not the headache I needed yesterday.

@Pygmyseahorse - wishing you all the best for your scans. Try to relax.

One question for the class - did you experience disturbed sleep during first trimester?

Pygmyseahorse · 03/06/2020 11:57

Ladies! Great news, scan went well. Very wriggly baby and got to watch for ages as they just wouldn't stay still for measurements!

@LucindaE please may you add 18th Dec to the due dates list? :)

Sending love to all
Throwing up constantly since coming home so off for a bed day with dd!
