I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.
MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk
If you need help in obtaining medication, phone them on:
024 7638 2020
Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy
I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.
It has been suggested that I add some practical tooth cleaning advice: a lot of sufferers find using a child's small toothbrush and strawberry toothpaste far less nauseating.
On my image of a pink castle: that is an image I use because when I was little, my family had a Snakes and Ladders board with an image on the last square of a pink castle in the clouds. As Hyperemesis is so like a grotesque version of Snakes and Ladders - eat a meal, go up a ladder, first thing in the morning bile run, down a snake - I have used the image of that pink castle on the last square of that Snakes and Ladders board as a metaphor for the happy end of Hyperemesis.
Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Fantastic news @@Pygmyseahorse! Star

KatieFTM · 03/06/2020 13:11

@Pygmyseahorse lovely news 😀
Hope you feel better soon xx

Snowwhite2020 · 03/06/2020 14:18

How did you get on with your scan today @Pygmyseahorse? I hope you are feeling better 💕

Snowwhite2020 · 03/06/2020 14:42

@Pygmyseahorse that is fantastic news!! I am so sorry- mumsnet just updated and I saw your message. You can relax now 🌈 love and hugs to you. Sorry about the bad sickness after scan- I too was very sick after mine... I think the anxiety of it hits us HG sufferers in that way particularly.

Very pleased for you! 💕

Pygmyseahorse · 03/06/2020 15:23

Thank you :) I'm so relieved.. Fully prepared for bad news. N.t measurements at 11w5 were 2.7 but well just see how things go when the other results come back. My booking bloods haven't come back yet and that 3 weeks I think

@Snowwhite2020 aww poor you, I'm sorry you were sick after yours too. I think you are into something with anxiety though! I did take antisickness before so maybe also starting to wear off but it's been on and off constantly since. Don't really mind too much today but I'm sure ill be wailing on the bathroom floor tomorrow!

How is everyone else today? Sending love

Snowwhite2020 · 03/06/2020 15:48

@Pygmyseahorse that’s good it’s all over. I remember feeling quite anxious about results coming back but they might come quicker due to current covid situation- that has been the case for quite a few people as a lot of routine medicine is not happening right now.

If it is any consolation, I am 15 weeks now and feeling a bit of relief. I’m still sick most days but getting stretches without nausea and able to eat more. Also slept better the last few days. So there is hope! 💕

BeautyAndTheBump1 · 03/06/2020 15:52

@Snowwhite2020 @LucindaE thanks for the well wishes ladies 😊 40+4 today, still not budging! My sickness has eased quite abit in the last week which has been a nice surprise! Just getting impatient now. Have another sweep tomorrow.

@Pygmyseahorse congratulations! That's wonderful news! :)

@kissingthebear checking in so see how you are doing?! 😘

Pygmyseahorse · 03/06/2020 16:17

@Snowwhite2020 oh that's fantastic that it's easing a little for you and what a relief getting some more sleep, you were really struggling before and I'm so happy to hear this :)
Sending love

@Beautyandthebump1 aww I was thinking of you today, fingers crossed little one comes sooner rather than later! Must be so cosy in there they just don't want to leave
Great to hear you are feeling better too, so happy for you. Good luck with the birth, sending love

Snowwhite2020 · 03/06/2020 16:24

@BeautyAndTheBump1 nice to hear from you! I bet you want this baby out NOW! So near the end xx

LucindaE · 03/06/2020 20:15

Pygmyseahorse Happy news! I am so pleased for you. I hope the sickness is a bit beter tomorrow. I so agree with SnowWhite2020 about anxiety making things worse.I've added your date. SnowWhite2020 I am glad things are a tiny bit better at 15 weeks.
Seeker2020 Awful to have a malfunctioning loo when so ill. I am glad it is fixed.

We had a private scan last night so my husband could “meet” the baby for the first time which was nice. My placenta looked massive- looked like it was crowding the baby out lol but the sonographer said it was a normal size. I can’t believe how much the placenta has grown in only a few weeks- and I did look at it and wonder if that has partly helped to life my sickness symptoms a bit as I couldn’t see it at all on scan photos for 12 week scan. Anyone have any experience of big looking placentas?? Xx

LucindaE · 04/06/2020 19:20

SnowWhite2020 I am glad it was a nice experience. No one has ever mentioned that thing about a big placenta, but who knows? It may be typical.

Popping in with an update!

We had a baby boy on the 28th May, all went well after an awful pregnancy. I was told that baby was measuring small due to the medications I took right through, but he was 8lbs at 39 weeks!
As soon as he was born the feeling of nausea disappeared and the hospital toast was the best thing ever!

You can do this ladies, it's all worth it. Thank you so much for the support on these threads x

Pygmyseahorse · 04/06/2020 23:07

@Snowwhite2020 aww what a lovely experience, I'm sorry I can't help re placenta but with dd I had an anterior placenta so maybe that's why I didn't notice it especially.. Who knows! Hope someone else may be able to share experiences with you.
How are you feeling today?

@Pasqual I'm sorry I never got to chat with you but a huge congratulations to you! So lovely to hear a positive story too that you felt well after. Sending love Flowers

Seeker2020 · 05/06/2020 08:06

Congratulations @Pasqual!

@snowwhite2020 - could be the angle? Though I really wouldn't know as haven't had my 12 week yet Hmm

Wondering if anyone here has had a reduction in HG at the 9-10 week mark? I had an internal scan last week and all was well (saw the little heartbeat), but I'm wondering if I'm getting a little complacent and excited that I may have already reached the peak of the bad weeks. I do feel constantly tired though, is that normal?

IAmSeriousAndDontCallMeShirley · 05/06/2020 08:35

Pasqual Congratulations! Wonderful news, lovely to hear when people get to the pink castle and get to enjoy new born snuggles.

I had forgotten about hospital toast! I also remember it being the first food I had enjoyed in months!

seeker For me weeks 10 onwards are always the absolute worst. Hope that you are luckier!

Hello to all. Xx

IAmSeriousAndDontCallMeShirley · 05/06/2020 08:38

seeker. Sorry forgot to say fatigue is very common, especially in 1st trimester. Just one of the many joys of pregnancy 😂

Pygmyseahorse · 05/06/2020 10:23

@seeker2020 I found it worse 6-8 I think then worsened 11-12 so far. My fatigue has got worse if anything but probably due to stress, heat, low energy with being sick or not keeping much down etc

I think the fatigue eased around 14 weeks with dd
All pregnancies are different though, if you have a good day try to enjoy it as you never know how long it'll last in my experience!
Fingers crossed your sickness is easing :)

How is everyone doing today?

I'm struggling with fatigue and sickness. 4pm-2am are the worst, so so sick
The rest of the day are on and off but the nights and evenings are so bad
Got 2 more days to finish my final assignment so I am hoping i can get through that.

Our announcements should arrive tomorrow I think which is a bit exciting and nerve wracking! I'm wondering if we should hold off until the combined test comes back. I just keep looking at the scan and it doesn't look 'normal' :(

KatieFTM · 05/06/2020 10:51

Hi ladies, hope today is a good day for everyone.

@pygmyseahorse I couldn’t agree more about the good days, it really throws me off when I go backwards. I’ve been so emotional this week thinking things aren’t going to get better 😢 I am 12 weeks on Monday and have my scan Tuesday 🤞🏻
the evenings have also become my nemesis, I wonder what triggers the switch?
It used to be mornings for me, now evening time is awful and I have to take myself off to bed.

Congratulations @pasqual 💖

Pygmyseahorse · 05/06/2020 11:33

@katieFTM aww that's weird and hard it's changed for you. It's strange isn't it!
With dd and now this pregnancy I've always found the afternoon, evening and night to be much worse so I think that's just me, but it's hard to get enough rest isn't it, especially when you finally finish work or with children to spend your downtime throwing up!

I'm 12 weeks today and not even given myself the idea I'll feel better so I don't feel sad!
All the best for Tuesday :)
Sending love

KatieFTM · 05/06/2020 14:53

@Pygmyseahorse ah we are so close together for due dates! 🙂
I know, I think as this is my first and everyone keeps saying it will get better I have started to believe them. Especially if I have a good day. Also want to think positively 🤞🏻 but need to not get upset on the bad days as it probably doesn’t help x

Clarkel1 · 05/06/2020 16:03

Just a thought I meant to ask since I'm 39 and will be 40 at birth do they like to bring the baby earlier? I've seen that mentioned a couple of times , I'm only 9 weeks but just wondering x

Snowwhite2020 · 05/06/2020 19:27

Hi ladies! Wow so much chat in one day... I hope I don’t miss anything out. Here goes!

@Pygmyseahorse I am so happy for you that you are nearly done with your assignment! From personal experience, any type of work stress or general stress results in my head even further down the toilet so I hope you will be able to relax a bit and get a bit of relief/ improvement without that.

I also have an anterior placenta! Seems pretty common. I guess I was just shocked how much it had grown in two weeks and to my ingrained eyes looked huge! Also compared to other scan photos uploaded to mumsnet but who knows! Was just a thought if anyone knew anything.

@Seeker2020 I certainly didn’t get a reduction at 9-10 weeks, in fact I was really very ill from 7-11 weeks, those were the most vile. I’m glad you seem to be doing a bit better! A word of warning- it can come back and hard- so just best to be mentally prepared for that...!

@KatieFTM my sickness patterns have changed so much throughout this pregnancy. I have been sick most days but the timings have come in waves... from 7-11 it was all day and all night with a window from around 1-3pm where I felt semi human and could eat something. Just awful. That window then widened so that I got say 1-5pm but mornings and dinner time major danger zones for bad vomiting and still awake at night. Then mercifully I seem to now just be sick in the morning and it is probably not as violent as it was though I can still be sick randomly if prompted (you know what I mean- certain smells/ situations! I need say no more...) I’m 15 weeks now and though I’m still being sick, I feel more cheerful and I have more energy between vomiting which is very welcome.

Phew. What a long message. Waves to everyone and love to all fellow sufferers and @LucindaE mother hen xx

Snowwhite2020 · 05/06/2020 19:30

@Pasqual you were first on my response there I don’t know what happened- I must have accidentally deleted it! Congratulations to an HG warrior mummy! It is all behind you and you can love and enjoy your precious baby. I am so so happy for you. Every baby is special but an HG baby and it’s mummy are... particularly precious. Love to you xx

Snowwhite2020 · 05/06/2020 19:32

@Pygmyseahorse untrained not ingrained! Oh dear.
