So currently 40+6 and decided not to have a sweep at my 40 week appointment as wanted everything to start naturally.
I had my 41 week appointment yesterday and opted for a sweep as I really dont want an induction and would prefer as little intervention as possible, this is less than an induction so opted for this instead.
Now my midwife has had to book my induction for Wednesday 13th as I'll be 40+12 then, but she has said they may bring it forward to monday 11th or Tuesday 12th.

I really dont want an induction, I'm a ftm and do really want this to be as natural as possible and my partner there. Midwife said if I'm in hospital for 24 hours for induction it will be alone.

My question is should I ask for another sweep before the induction to see if it starts anything?
Really dont think yesterdays sweep did anything as she said my cervix is soft which is good but she couldn't do a very good sweep as it's still at the back.
I know sweeps aren't proven to work and if I go into labour it's because I was ready to anyway but is it worth it?

Any advice welcome.

P.s I'm doing the walking a day (have a dog), hot foods, sex, birthing ball ect to get things going but nothing is working!

Thank you! Come home now to do early labour here and won't go back in for a while. Paracetamol is not touching the sides really 😹

Hi all, sorry for the late reply it's been a mad 3 days!
Finally baby is here!
After feeling contractions after the sweep on Wednesday they got progressively worse so ended up in triage which confirmed I was still only 1cm even though the strong contractions were coming close together. Ended up having 2nd examination which confirmed I was then 3cm. So they took me to the delivery suite. Finally here dead on 42 weeks 🤦🏻‍♀ my labour has been all over the place, from no induction to waters being broken as no progression on dilation, to a water birth which was nice for a while, to then him having breathing issues on the monitor and crash teams running in, then I was 10cm dilated after 3 days... so told to push only to be examined again to be told I'm only 8 and babys heartrate was low so emergency c section to then getting into theatre to be examined again to be told I am now 10cm dilated and they used forceps 🤦🏻‍♀
I havent slept in 3 days!! 😴
But all so worth it for him finally being here! 💙💙
Thanks all for your support and help. Not the labour I imagined but he's here and I'm happy!

Delbelleber · 16/05/2020 04:02

Congratulations Flowers he is lovely. Well done you getting through your labour. When do you get home?
I had my baby on the 14th. Just been doing 1 of our night feeds and nappy change Grin we are home now which is great.

Nicknamegoeshere · 16/05/2020 04:10

Even if you get to 42 weeks you absolutely are within your rights to decline an induction and opt for extra scanning etc.

I had my first labour induced and in retrospect wish I'd have declined and gone for that.

Your baby, your body, your choice.

Wishing you all the very best, I know how frustrating it feels.

Nicknamegoeshere · 16/05/2020 04:10

Congratulations Thanks

needanewusernameplz · 20/05/2020 20:20

Congrats OP!

Hope you're having a lovely time with your little Jaxon.

We had our baby too! Worst labour ever 2.5 days followed by a very scary few days of our daughter in Neonatal after having a tough time in delivery.

Pleased to say that we're recovering well and she's feeding like a demon.

Congrats to you too, sorry it was difficult and stressful, glad you're both ok now. Cutie 😍

kayakingmum · 20/05/2020 20:30

Induction is recommended after a certain point because it saves babies lives. Simple as that. There is no way I would refuse one indefinitely.

kayakingmum · 20/05/2020 20:31

Just seen your latest news. Congratulations. So glad everything worked out :)

ejmay90 · 21/05/2020 10:12

Congratulations to @ejmay90 and @needanewusernameplz on your lovely babies, I don't think we ever have the births we want/expect but as long as the babies and mums are safe then all is good 💜
