40+6 advice needed!

ejmay90 · 07/05/2020 10:49

So currently 40+6 and decided not to have a sweep at my 40 week appointment as wanted everything to start naturally.
I had my 41 week appointment yesterday and opted for a sweep as I really dont want an induction and would prefer as little intervention as possible, this is less than an induction so opted for this instead.
Now my midwife has had to book my induction for Wednesday 13th as I'll be 40+12 then, but she has said they may bring it forward to monday 11th or Tuesday 12th.

I really dont want an induction, I'm a ftm and do really want this to be as natural as possible and my partner there. Midwife said if I'm in hospital for 24 hours for induction it will be alone.

My question is should I ask for another sweep before the induction to see if it starts anything?
Really dont think yesterdays sweep did anything as she said my cervix is soft which is good but she couldn't do a very good sweep as it's still at the back.
I know sweeps aren't proven to work and if I go into labour it's because I was ready to anyway but is it worth it?

Any advice welcome.

P.s I'm doing the walking a day (have a dog), hot foods, sex, birthing ball ect to get things going but nothing is working!

Had a quick scan and don't think he's back to back as I'm sure they would have said.
But they said his head is definitely deep in there and she could feel babys head against waters I think. But cervix isn't fully round but can this sweep ive just had progress that?
I'm hoping these what I think are start of contractions get worse and it's not just random ones because she's disrupted down there!
Thank you everyone for your help!

@needanewusernameplz good luck! I had the same, things happened then stopped but I'm now 41+5 so need to get things moving. thank you, you too!

Out of interest and sorry about the TMI... you're being warned now. Did anyone else get early labour confused with a perpetual need to poop? I'm having tightness in my lower uterus and just want to do all the pooping possible. Soz, know
Its gross. 🤗

needanewusernameplz · 13/05/2020 16:44

This better be labour because I'm sick of having the "is this labour or gas" debate. Its always been gas BTW 💨

ejmay90 · 13/05/2020 16:58

@needanewusernameplz I had been pooping very regularly since about 36 weeks, like 3/4 time a day. I think it's your body getting ready as it flushes lit but not necessarily that its soon as I'm now nearly 42 weeks lol!
But could be for you so fingers crossed!

By the way I definitely think I'm having regular contractions now!
So glad I didnt opt for the induction and just hope they progress now. Trying to time them seems hard though!
Currently sat in the bath as the back ache is real!! 😣

@ejmay90 good luck! keep yourself relaxed, distracted and calm. If you need some a good contraction timer and coaching recommend the Freya app, even if you haven't done hypnobirthing its super useful for breathing techniques. It also tells you when you should call the hospital or MW.

ejmay90 · 13/05/2020 17:09

@needanewusernameplz thank you, other half is doing a good job of that.
Done the hypnobirthing course but havent got the app, think it's £3 and thought oh we dont need to pay for it we can do it ourselves but not so sure now lol!
Thanks :)

I only ever felt contractions in my back with my two natural labours.

If you are still reading:

Either put a hot cherry pip cushion against your lower back.

Or better

Apply pressure to the tops of your buttocks (where the top of your pelvis is) either yourself or your partner during a contraction. It'll help to at least distract from the pain. The balls of the hands are good, but fingers will do as well.

Rocking back and forth will also help somewhat.

Do not sit back too much because it makes it more unbearable.

How is everything this morning , hoping to hear it is positive or at least no news as it's all happening for you today !

flissity · 14/05/2020 14:49

This is all mega exciting! Can’t wait for update :)

needanewusernameplz · 14/05/2020 16:48

My back pain is just back pain, 3 days to due date. If I go over I will do a c section myself! Sooooo over pregnancy now.

needanewusernameplz · 15/05/2020 07:04

Not wanting to steal OP's thunder, but while we're waiting for her good news, would you answer me a question?

Have put it on childbirth thread as well...

So, 39 weeks and woke up having very intense period pain like cramps, and now seeing a pink mucus discharge. Will spare you the photo, but its pale pink.

Would anyone say that its likely to be the start of labour given I'm having the period like pains on and off? They're happening every 10-30 mins or so.

bluemoon2468 · 15/05/2020 07:25

@needanewusernameplz sounds like it! The blood will be your mucus plug. You might well be saying hello to your baby today!

FlyingLemur · 15/05/2020 07:28

@needanewusernameplz
I’d say it’s very likely what you’re experiencing is early labour. Period cramps are exactly how my labour started.

SpillTheTeaa · 15/05/2020 07:32

Ouch! I had a lot of back ache with DS but he was back to back. I think there might be a baby now Grin

needanewusernameplz · 15/05/2020 07:49

Now its all turned quite pink and watery, going in to get checked to see if its been my waters breaking 🤞🤞🤞
