Private Gender Scan

Hi,

I've seen on a few other threads that people have been for gender scans or have booked them. Are these still going ahead with Covid?

Where I am, the NHS scans don't tell you the gender. However, the private scans nearby say that they're only undertaking scans to check on development.

I think it depends on where you are. My 20 week scan isn't for another 4 weeks and I doubt my partner will be able to come so we have booked a private one instead. I had to look around though as some weren't open some were only doing 2d and no gender scans. Others weren't allowing partners either. I booked with lollipop scans and my partner can come with me and I'm having a 4d gender scan.

Ginntoniconpause · 28/04/2020 19:18

I've just had a look to see if theres one near me but there isnt. The ones closest say for development reasons only and not to bring partners, one says partners if absolutely necessary. X

I'm sure you will find one. I just phoned around. What area are you in? X

roarfeckingroar · 28/04/2020 21:18

I have a private scan where I'll find out the sex on Saturday! So excited.

Ginntoniconpause · 28/04/2020 21:30

Central Scotland. Ooh exciting! I think I'm probably better phoning and asking rather than going by what's on the website.

@roarfeckingroar so exciting 😊I have to wait until the 10th it's going to go so slow!

KimH88 · 28/04/2020 21:55

@Ginntoniconpause yes I would phone around. Hope you get sorted x

roarfeckingroar · 28/04/2020 22:58

@KimH88 I'm 16+2 today and my 20 week scan isn't until I'll be 20+5 - I couldn't resist booking!

I booked mine for 17 weeks as I was very anxious and we knew already that my partner can’t be on the 20w. Where we went, they advertised that no gender scan was available what was fine for me as was not priority but when we arrived to the clinic was one of the first questions if we wanted to know. Also, two days after I booked I received a general email saying partners weren’t allowed, again on the day they welcome my partner.

Ang3113 · 29/04/2020 07:48

Hi I had a private scan at 17 weeks where we found out the sex. We mainly went as partner could come to that one as we knew he wouldn't be able to come to the 20 week scan.

KimH88 · 29/04/2020 08:49

@roarfeckingroar that's why I have I will be 20+3 for my 20 week scan. Plus I wanted my partner to come and I don't think will be able to then still.

3isthemagicnumber3 · 29/04/2020 17:08

I have a private gender scan booked for Monday (Greater Manchester area). Seeing as my midwife care is none existent and I won’t see a midwife from 10 week booking in to 28 weeks, I thought I would get some reassurance of my own and the bonus of finding out the sex of my baby. I will be 16 weeks and 3 days.

roarfeckingroar · 30/04/2020 16:12

Two days @KimH88 GrinGrinGrin

KimH88 · 30/04/2020 16:31

@roarfeckingroar not long😊 I have 9 days to wait yet!

EastMidsMumOf1 · 30/04/2020 17:16

A few places are doing them but will only be booked under 'reassurance scan' and with COVID19 the 20week scan is for anomalies only at my hospital. I've got my private sca Tuesday when I'll be 14+6 to find out the gender Smile

roarfeckingroar · 30/04/2020 18:11

Ohhhh sorry thought we were the same day

3isthemagicnumber3 · 30/04/2020 19:30

EastMidsMumOf1 - didn’t know you could find out the gender out at that stage, I’d have booked mine earlier! Thought it was 16 weeks!

KimH88 · 30/04/2020 19:32

@EastMidsMumOf1 I didn't know you could find out that early thought it was from 16 weeks.

edgeware · 30/04/2020 19:34

@3isthemagicnumber3 please could you share where?

3isthemagicnumber3 · 30/04/2020 19:43

edgeware my scan is booked at Precious Glimpse in Oldham, think they have them in Bury and another one somewhere else. No partners allowed and no 3D images but they will tell you the gender as part of the reassurance scan.

ilikebigbuttsandicannotlie · 30/04/2020 19:46

From what I’ve heard, they advertise it as development scans as gender scans as such are “necessary” at this point. Ring and ask if they will tell you the gender at a development scan as I’m sure they would.

princesspeppax · 30/04/2020 19:50

I'm also central scotland, and a few pregnant ladies I know have booked with Window to the womb, for Health Scan to check baby but were also told the sex, maybe try give them a call OP.

I also used them to find out gender before lockdown and they were very good

BrooHaHa · 30/04/2020 19:53

Don't put too much stock in what you get told, will you? They're much more likely to get it wrong that early on. Alternatively, you may find it's a gimmick to secure your custom- offer it earlier than the competition and then, 'Oh dear, the image isn't quite clear enough to tell, come back in two weeks and we'll re-scan you.'

Either way, I definitely wouldn't be rushing out to buy all pink/blue based on the result of the scan, if I were you.

EastMidsMumOf1 · 30/04/2020 21:17

It's a place called see your baby in Leicester they do gender scans from 14weeks, a few friends have been there and the reviews look great!
I've also got additional scans with the hospital for growth so I'm sure theyll be able to confirm further if needs be Smile
Tbh I mainly want a private scan for DH to come though more than the actual gender malarkey, that will just be a bonus.

Ginntoniconpause · 01/05/2020 14:58

@princesspeppax I'll give them a call. I contacted babes in the womb in Edinburgh yesterday, they were happy for a scan to go ahead with my partner but are not allowing children- I don't have childcare at the minute due to lockdown! I'd like one for the end of the month but will need to see how things are then and see if my in laws can watch my eldest. Fingers crossed. X
