@koo33 I feel your pain...I don't think lockdown helps with it feeling like it dragging in! Do you know what your having and is this your first? Xx

Sophie1326 · 12/05/2020 19:43

@Natmac190715 oooo thank you! I've found her page on etsy and Instagram and my god is her things beautiful 😍 I'll see if I can message to see if she's still making the sleeping nests.. I really hope so!

Bikbikmum · 12/05/2020 20:47

Hi ladies, lots of new names, welcome :)
I had KGhypnobirthing, I think they are slightly more expensive but to be honest I am sure Positive Birth Co one is amazing too. At the end of the day it is all about practice, practice, practice as they say.

I certainly advice Positive Birth Co Postpartum Pack especially if you are first time mum. Even my husband watched some sessions.

Sleepyhead: I was told that couple of years ago there were product recalls, they thought soft surfaces trigger SIDS. The lullaby trust also confirmed that a lot of sleep nests and pods do not comply with safe sleep standards. So I am not planning to buy one, but pls do your own research.

One question for all: are you going to do private group b strep test? There are some home kits available but not sure whether it is neccessary? I was told that it is not a routine test at nhs.

Koo33 · 12/05/2020 21:46

Natmac190715 I’m having a boy and yes it’s my first baby. How about you?

LassoOfTruth · 12/05/2020 22:18

Welcome new ladies!
Who's due the 19th June - me too! Smile
For daytime naps with my DD I just used either her moses basket or the bassinet thingy which came with the buggy. Of course for the first few months she would only sleep on me or daddy anyway - or we would have to take her for a long walk in the bassinet/buggy. Maybe it's a bit of trial and error and depends on the baby you get! It's impossible to know and easy to get roped into buying stuff you might not need I reckon. I certainly did the first time - looking at you baby 'swing' which DD hated.

Natmac190715 · 12/05/2020 22:22

@koo33 this is my second, but my husband and I have a big age gap. Our son is 9 🙂 but he's super excited and looking forward to helping! We don't know what we are having...so very exciting!

@sophie1326 oh it's beautiful isn't it. Did you see all the different fabrics she has?! They are so nice and very good prices! Very quick delivery too!! XXX

Koo33 · 12/05/2020 22:54

@ Natmac190715 how lovely, I bet you can’t wait to see your son with the new baby. Such exciting times to come

Millettmum · 13/05/2020 07:00

I also have just got a Moses basket for downstairs and avoiding nests etc.
@Bikbikmum
I hadn't even heard of the strep b test until I read it in the other group so I'm not that worried.
My maternity belt came yesterday afternoon so let's hope that helps.
And welcome new members Smile

@Millettmum I hope it helps you too.

Oh, btw, I forgot to tell for new ladies, I am due 29th June. I wonder whether I will give birth before 39th week or after :) my friends start betting already 🙈

My midwife gave me a natural induction list if you are interested: primrose oil, raspberry leaf and so on..

Due end of June/start of July - Thread 2
Goodgoodthings · 13/05/2020 12:39

Hi new ladies Smile so nice to have more of us here and crazy to think we’re all due so close together! I hope everyone is feeling well? My due date is also 29th June, will be my first time and we are having a baby girl.

Starting to feel like a blessing to be working from home with really sore ribs from about 2pm every day now. Baby girl is so high up and measuring two weeks ahead on my fundal height chart. Is anyone else having this? Wondering if your midwives have given any helpful information on it as mine didn’t say much at all. I really would like to avoid having an induction if I can!

Thanks for sharing the list @Bikbikmum I’m going to have a look into it later x

LassoOfTruth · 13/05/2020 14:06

@Bikbikmum thanks! That list might come in very handy!

My little boy bump is also measuring 2 weeks ahead @Goodgoodthings. I'm worried he might be a 12-pounder like my (tiny) cousin somehow managed to birth - and thinking maybe I should go for that ELC after all ...
I had to be induced last time as my waters broke and then no labour started for a long time. In such a case the risk of infection increases so they did insist on inducing me (with drugs and then a 'sweep' - it wasn't nice at all, sorry). By the time they got around to it my labour had properly got underway so it was really more to 'speed things up'. I should have refused - I don't think they can make you? But definitely talk to the midwife about circumstances where it would really be necessary and what it could entail. My experience is that they really don't volunteer information, you have to ask them. If I'm honest I am not good at doing this, and often feel awkward. At my last appointment, my midwife didn't want to discuss current birthing plan options at all, totally fobbed me off. She has at least set me up with another phone call with the consultant midwife at the hospital though.

OMG working at home all week is a bit of a godsend. I can barely fit into my little car now (never mind 'work' clothes) so driving 2hrs a day to and from the office would not be fun!

Goodgoodthings · 13/05/2020 14:29

@lassooftruth thanks for sharing, I’m glad I’m not alone at least! At my last appointment my MW mentioned north plans and I said I would have a look at the template from the Hypnobirthing course I’m doing and she asked me what hypnobirthing involved like I was crazy haha. I have another appointment on Monday so I’m going to be brave and actually ask the questions on my list this time! Crikey, 12 pounds Shock that’s amazing. I’m 6 foot so figured baby would be big too but it’s still pretty daunting.

Haha you are so right, getting in the car is tough going! Getting my work clothes...well I dread to think. PJs all day over here 🙋‍♀️

Bikbikmum · 13/05/2020 16:44

@Goodgoodthings @LassoOfTruth my baby girl was 58% percentile and was 4lbs 7oz at my 32nd week scan. They didnt say anything about the growth... I think she is slightly heavier than usual according to google 😂 but still on average. I will have 36th week scan, fingers crossed.

I had a bittersweet conversation with consultant midwife and I look foward meeting with my midwife to discuss a birth plan. In my area, it is still not very clear whether I am allowed to use the birth centre or have a home birth. (if things go well)

Do we go through birth plan with midwife now or do they check at the time of labour?

I have NCT class this weekend, I had booked this months ago, can't believe it is time now.. time flies so fast!!!

LJC1234 · 13/05/2020 19:02

Hi all ! Due 9th July and first time mum!

So glad I found this thread as currently suffering with anxiety so lovely to see other mums due at the same time

Bikbikmum · 14/05/2020 08:55

@LJC1234 welcome!!! You are certainly not alone. At this time, it is so normal to feel anxious. We will get this together 👍🏻

I have a panic disorder history and I had theraphy for my panic attacks at past, I absolutely had nothing for 2 years and I was no longer in theraphy. Now my panic attacks are back every now and then. Not severe, but there. And I was told that this is the most acceptable response that my body would give! We are living in strange times, lots of uncertainty and worry, we will become wonderful mamas and we ofcourse feel anxious.

Hypnobirthing practices seriously helps. If you havent started already I strongly recommend an online course and practice before birth no matter where/how you wish to give birth.

Xxx

Millettmum · 15/05/2020 11:03

My aunt in law who does the yoga with me has started focusing on breathing at the end of sessions, it does help me when I have my moments of grief (I do let it out sometimes though) so hoping it will also help when it comes to the big moment!

Anyone else been really hungry! Last few days it's like you couldn't fill me and I've been wanting sweets and cakes that I shouldn't be having because of the GD. Maybe a growth spurt?

OP posts:
Millettmum · 15/05/2020 11:04

I mention the yoga/breathing in case it would help anyone with their anxiety etc.

OP posts:
LassoOfTruth · 15/05/2020 17:20

@Millettmum I agree, yoga breathing is really surprisingly effective and actually, the hypnobirthing course uses this 'calming' breathing technique which is very similar. It helps me just to focus and then calm down a bit if I start feeling kind of annoyed or anxious. I even use it during toddler meltdowns ... my DD is pretty chill for a 2.5 year old but she has her moments these days!
I cannot stop eating and crave rubbish all day long - salty things, crisps, cheese, cake and biscuits. I've kind of gone off chocolate but have gone downstairs in the middle of the night for many a bowl of sugary cereal. I've refused to look at the scales for months now, because I really don't want to know!

Bikbikmum · 15/05/2020 17:47

@Millettmum @LassoOfTruth you are not alone! I am craving pizza for tonight, salty lots of cheese on it. And recently I have started eating lots of rubbish. I was much healthier before lockdown. I now feel the absence of alcohol in my life 🙈

I have already had high BMI in the beginning of pregnancy so I am so scared to have a large baby or diabetes. So far nothing happened by the way. Today instead of cakes and chocolate, I chose apricots and walnuts. My husband freely continues to indulgence himself with chocolate and cakes 😂😂😂😂

Bikbikmum · 15/05/2020 17:50

Which contraction/surge timer do you download? Do you plan to use any apps?

There are also some baby trackers. Are they really useful or necessary to track poos, feeds and sleep.

Any thoughts?

Millettmum · 15/05/2020 19:09

@Bikbikmum
Not even thought about anything like that. Have you seen any? Only app I've downloaded is the baby related Red Cross app x

OP posts:
Goodgoodthings · 15/05/2020 19:35

@Bikbikmum @Millettmum @LassoOfTruth it’s so funny how we’re all going through the same things. Last night I stupidly hopped on the scales for the first time since October (I say stupidly because I have a difficult relationship with weight) and it really upset me. All day I’ve been thinking and worrying about food and calories. I’ve gained 3 stone in 33 weeks and from frantic googling that seems a bit on the high side? No wonder bump is big. I’m so cross with myself for looking and putting a negative spin on this, but there it is and I can’t stop thinking about it.

I downloaded the Freya app because I’ve really enjoyed the positive birth company material, I’d say it’s worth the few quid it cost but I’m sure there are similar ones for free. It has the breathing exercises and some audio bits and you can have it playing along with your music.

Bikbikmum · 15/05/2020 20:47

@Goodgoodthings I was planning to download Freya too. But before downloading, just want to check on here. Thanks for the advice xx

Gigitree · 15/05/2020 21:29

Second vote for the Freya app here! @Bikbikmum I really like it and I’ve been using the meditation part of if for a few weeks now. I also like that if you time your contractions on there it will tell you when you should call the midwife/go to the hospital

Goldenmother · 17/05/2020 17:17

Hi all I'm due 19th June currently 35 weeks today I've started washing all the baby clothes etc and will get my hospital bag packed this week
