@Millettmum that’s what I thought! It was like something out of a comedy sketch to be honest, I know it’s not at all funny but you’ve got to laugh at the irony!

I think we will probably wait until she is here to share the name. Thinking it through, if we tell people and the do react then I’ll probably end up doubting myself and looking to change it. Especially with all this time on our hands at the moment! I feel like I can picture her more clearly now we have a name in mind which is a nice feeling.

@Itsnoteasyfeelingqueasy welcome Smile hope you’re feeling well and coping okay in this bizarre situation!

Itsnoteasyfeelingqueasy · 01/05/2020 13:24

@Millettmum @Goodgoodthings thank you 😊. I’m feeling fine, very grateful to be on maternity leave already as I’m a nurse. I’m just enjoying getting organised at home and doing hypno birthing and birth planning online. I was hoping for a home birth but currently they are stopped in my area ( West Sussex) so I’ve been learning more about hospital birth. One question I have is about what to bring in terms of feeding stuff. I’m hoping to breast feed but aware it might not be easy especially straight away so do I need to take formula, bottles etc?

Bikbikmum · 04/05/2020 12:46

@Itsnoteasyfeelingqueasy welcome :) My midwife told me that if I want to breastfeed the baby they will do everything in their power to help me on that, and she told me not to bring any bottles or formula. NCT told me that I could do hand express no need to carry a pump. This was assuming it would be a normal birth, healthy baby and mum etc. However MW said if it would make me less anxious, I can add a bottle. I read a lot, I asked a lot about this, I even called NCT (ha-ha such a crazy mum to be). We have also discussed about this here. I think it is down below somewhere. Second time mum experiences are very useful!!

My final decision after all these conversations: I will buy a medela calma bottle and basic hand pump, and want to put both of these to my hospital bag. I will also buy couple of tetra pack formula milk (not powder), in case there is an emergency, I will also include this to my hospital bag and not going to mention anyone about this. 😂To be used at home, I am planning to hire a medela hospital grade pump , just in case and also to see how I am going on/feeling with expressing, before investing on any pump. Not sure this is the best decision, please read, speak with your midwife and ask other people but this is what I have decided in the end. Fingers crossed.

@Goodgoodthings @Millettmum I also loved freerider.co it keeps popping up at my insta page. Very good designs, fabric looks good and it is not ridiculuosly too expensive.

Bikbikmum · 04/05/2020 12:49

Today I had my 32 week scan (to check growth), and lovely babygirl seems to be doing fine 😇🙏🏻

Fetal weight is at 58% percentile, is it OK? She is 2006g (4 lbs 7oz). Is she too big?

Her head was down, ver low actually, I have some bladder problems. I hope she stays that way 🌈

@Itsnoteasyfeelingqueasy
I never bothered taking anything first time for bottle feeding and I don't plan on taking anything this time either.

My freerider sling arrived today! It's a lovely soft material. I tried to have a practice, a little difficult with no baby got a free muslin that came with it as well which is the same material.

@Bikbikmum
58th centile isn't huge I believe.

I’m due 11th July but having a c section, I assume they’ll want to do it at 39 weeks but due to them changing my due date by the scan rather than going from my last period I’m going to request I have it at 38 weeks due to previous experiences. I’ve picked the baby’s bag but not got around to mine yet. Has anyone managed to source nursing nighties? Everywhere seems to be out of stock 😬

Millettmum · 04/05/2020 16:36

@Kezmum14
I just bought a large buttoned nightie from primark before it shut. I've just had a look at Sainsbury's and they have the buttoned boyfriend style night shirts.

@Bikbikmum thank you for explaining your thoughts on the bottle issue! I will ask my midwife in Monday. I just don’t want to see clueless and not have the right things with me! I’m probably over thinking it as I’m sure the hospital is well equipped!
At home I’m planning on combination feeding so I already have bottles, steriliser etc. I’m probably going to go for a hand pump and I’m not planning on relying on expressing much, mainly just for comfort or for my husband to feed.

Kezmum14 · 04/05/2020 16:42

@Millettmum thank you I’ll have a look

I noticed when I went to an appointment last week that the hospital I’m under no longer provides bottles of milk and you have to take your own if you are planning on formula feeding. The poster did say if you are planning on breastfeeding and things didn’t go to plan then they do have formula for use in those circumstances.

Bikbikmum · 04/05/2020 20:16

@Kezmum14 everything was out of stock, I bought some very comfy loose nighties from M&S. they are not buttondown but with straps.

MRSRCH · 05/05/2020 02:42

Hello everyone, hope you all holding out OK. Please tell me I'm not the only one that is feeling starving in the middle of the night (current situation hence the time of my message!) I've had to go downstairs and eat some cereal because I couldn't put it off any longer lol

Itsnoteasyfeelingqueasy · 05/05/2020 04:41

@MRSRCH yep me too! It’s the first time I’ve actually got up to make toast in the middle of the night! Pregnancy insomnia is definitely getting worse. Not helped by breastfeeding stress tonight after I talked to a friend on the phone earlier 🤯

MRSRCH · 05/05/2020 07:41

@Itsnoteasyfeelingqueasy I'm glad I'm no the only one! Last night was the first night I had done it too and I'm with u with the insomnia.
I did manage to have some sleep although be awoken to need a wee and noticed blood down the toilet so off to get checked out this morning.

Itsnoteasyfeelingqueasy · 05/05/2020 08:11

@MRSRCH oh no, I’m sorry to hear that. I hope all is well when you get checked out. Thinking of you xx

Millettmum · 05/05/2020 08:30

@MRSRCH
Hope everything is ok this morning.

I'm in today for yet another scan and clinic appointment

Goodgoodthings · 05/05/2020 08:52

@MRSRCH thinking of you this morning and hope that all goes well 💜

Yep it seems that I too am in the no sleep club, Saturday night I woke up my partner screaming at 3am so that was nice! I guess there is so much going on right now as well as the pregnancy that it’s normal for our bodies to be extra alert? I’m stocking up on series to watch to get me through!

On the breastfeeding topic I’m obviously also new to this but my midwife and sister in law recommended getting a Haaka - have you heard of these? It’s like a silicone cup that you put on the opposite boob to the one you’re feeding from and it catches all of the let down and then you can store it in bags etc. SIL has a 3 month old and said she hasn’t had to use her pump at all with this so I’ve ordered one - they’re really cheap on amazon might be worth a look?

Millettmum · 05/05/2020 09:02

@Goodgoodthings
Yes I bought something similar to a hakaa by Nuby. Was £12.99 on Amazon and comes with a few accessories, says you can squeeze it for a gentle pump as well.

OP posts:
Goodgoodthings · 05/05/2020 09:23

@Millettmum yes this looks really similar! I’m intrigued by it and think if it saves me getting a pump straight away it’s worth a go, I like the idea of having less “parts” to sterilise too. I hope your scan goes well today 😊

MRSRCH · 05/05/2020 11:42

Everything is all good, baby was very quiet on the monitor for the first hour but when I went back on it after having something to eat she had a good wriggle around and heartbeat was all fine. Was worrying though, had to call out to everyone in the house to check no one was else had used the loo before me which startled everybody and woke them all up lol

LassoOfTruth · 05/05/2020 15:40

@MRSRCH Glad to hear all seems okay! And loving the scan pic @Bikbikmum!
If anyone is looking for a sling recommendation that isn't a wrap-style one (I inherited two of those last time, but couldn't get on with them at all) - I bought myself a 2nd-hand ergobaby 360 pre-lockdown. Borrowed one from a friend when DD was about 6 months, to take on holiday, and thought it was fab. Could hardly feel her weight in it, walked through the airport with her breastfeeding in the sling, it was great. Can be used for newborns with a little extra padding insert thingy. Anyway - hopefully by the time most of us pop, some normality will have resumed and you may have sling libraries etc open again. Who knows!
Intrigued by the Haaka thing - looks great. I like my pump fine but it can be a faff cleaning it all etc. Good tip @Goodgoodthings
I got myself some nursing PJs on Amazon which are actually quite nice. All I could find in storage from last time was this really toasty granny nightie style thing which I remember being great in December with DD, but which probably wouldn't be too comfy in June! Planned that badly Grin

Millettmum · 05/05/2020 16:17

@MRSRCH
Glad you have good news there.

I've just had my scan but as it was too close to the last one (a week) they won't measure her to see how big she is Hmm so they'll probably book another from next week, we'll see what the consultant says soon. But thankfully she's now head down, I thought she was as I can actually breath ha x

Hope your all keeping well? The weather looks like it's going to good from Thursday onwards !! 23 degrees on Friday in Bedfordshire 🤣

I went for my midwife app this morning and she's referred me for a growth scan on Thursday as he's dropped slightly since my last measure.. hopefully everything is ok! I'll be 34 weeks then so not much longer to go🥰

Sophie1326 · 05/05/2020 17:16
