Hi,
I have my ‘first’ dating scan next week and have read that I need to pay for photos.
Is this correct and in so, how much are they please? Just so I know how much change to take with me. Thank you.

Our first scan i think we paid £20 for 6, could be wrong as my oh sorted it, our second scan the machine was out of order so we got them for free, I wouldn't be surprised if they will give them for free at the moment so you are not touching the machine.

Babyshine2020 · 10/04/2020 15:31

Sorry not Newcastle based but based on the above comment my trust is one photo £5 and three for £10 (you can buy multiple vouchers) and this seems pretty consistent

erised · 10/04/2020 16:05

Not in that area but I've had 3 scans and not had to pay for any photos.

sel2223 · 10/04/2020 16:07

Pretty sure it's £4 for one or 3 for £10.

I had my 20 week scan there a couple of weeks ago and it was card only, no cash (as it happens, they couldn't get a decent pic so gave me two blurred images for free).

yestonodressyet · 10/04/2020 16:10

£5 per photo in Surrey abc you're allowed a max of 3, I've found even if you just pay for one the sonographers always give you 3 anyway

LouisaPipSqueak · 10/04/2020 17:06

Gosh, a lot more than I thought. I didn’t even realise I had to pay for the them until I read something on there website. They really should write that information on the appointment letter.
Thanks all, we take cash and card then. Just didn’t know if had to have £1 coins especially or something x

Hi!

I'm having my baby at RVI Newcastle and I've not paid for any of my scan pics - had my 12w scan in feb & my 20w scan a few weeks back and my photos were all free of charge. Hope this helps xx

LouisaPipSqueak · 10/04/2020 17:25

Hi @Augustbaby93
Oh excellent! How exciting, I hope it’s the same for me. Even when I read their website it says ‘get tokens’ but not how much. Thank you!

Yeah I saw that when I was looking before my first scan too! They asked if I wanted pics at the end of my 12 week scan, and just handed me them after the 20 week no mention of paying either time.

I'm not sure if it's due to to the whole coronavirus thing as I did see a token machine in the waiting area but never used it, fingers crossed it's same for you! xx

jeleigh · 10/04/2020 19:23

@LouisaPipSqueak hey, when did you get your letter for your scan?
I’m due to have my scans at the nearby NSECH, but I’m 10+2 and haven’t heard anything yet despite seeing the midwife two weeks ago.
I had the choice of having baby at the RVI but NSECH is just a little bit closer.
Im just thinkingwith them being the same trust I might get my letter at a similar time to what you did

sel2223 · 10/04/2020 20:16

@jeleigh I'm rvi and didn't have my dating scan till I was 13+6, I only got my letter a week before so I was already over 12 weeks when I got the appointment through

jeleigh · 10/04/2020 20:23

@sel2223 thank you 😊 with everything going on I don’t want to phone and whinge about not getting my date yet but was starting to get worried when I’ve seen so many others already knowing when theirs is.

LouisaPipSqueak · 10/04/2020 20:27

Thanks @Augustbaby93 hope that is the case! Super excited!

@jeleigh - I waited ages. I saw my midwife at 9 weeks and she said I’ll get a letter. I got to 12 weeks and still didn’t have a letter, I rang RVI and they said ‘oh we don’t book you in till 13+6 like @sel2223 said so booked a private one for 12 weeks and for my reassurance.

Rang again at 13 weeks and they said ‘oh we don’t have you booked in, we’re doing an extra clinic on Easter Monday, can you come then?’ Got the letter confirming this 2 days later so they must have booked me in literally after I called.

I appreciate its a busy time for them but I’d honestly ring them every week just to make sure they have your details and push them to book you in. Good luck

You’ll find it varies quite a bit between hospitals, I work for two hospitals. It’s £3 at one place and £5 at the other, for just 1 photo!

Poochnewbie · 10/04/2020 20:33

I had my baby there at the end of 2016. You had to buy tokens for the pictures but a lovely midwife saw me going to get them and put a load of tokens in my hand. I can’t remember hire much the tokens were though...

jeleigh · 10/04/2020 20:35

Thank you so much ladies 😊
I’m thinking this is probably going to be the same case at NSECH, I was thinking if the RVI was a bit more organised I would switch to there but clearly not 😂
I might give them a ring when I hit 11 weeks if I haven’t heard anything, just for my own sanity.
But I might just book a private one, I had a few worrying symptoms a few weeks ago but no one would see me to be be scanned so I desperately want to know all is okay.

Skweeler · 10/04/2020 20:46

It's normally £5 a photo at my hosp but currently only the patient is allowed into the scan room with the sonographer. So no other halfs or observers at all. On the upside the pics are free because of this :)

LouisaPipSqueak · 10/04/2020 20:48

Yes jeleigh please keep ringing and if you can go to window of the womb, I didn’t have any reason to be worried but was constantly worried and just wanted that reassurance which they were able to give me just had allowed me to relax a bit more while waiting for this one. Good luck xx

I've had two babies at the RVI and had multiple scans with each, including a 3D scan at 34 weeks with my first and never paid for pictures and have been given a good few with each scan.

LouisaPipSqueak · 10/04/2020 21:02

@paradiselaundry - great to hear thank you!!

LatteLover12 · 11/04/2020 06:56

Hi OP,

It's £4 per photo or 3 for £10. You can pay by card now too (it used to be just £1 coins!)

Fearne18 · 11/04/2020 07:31

Hi. My sister is booked in at RVI and has been paying as the other posters suggest. However, because of our partners not being allowed in I wonder if we can ask for one for free. Worth a try xx

LuluJakey1 · 11/04/2020 07:34

I had DS1 there, 5years ago though, and was never asked to pay for scan photos.

LouisaPipSqueak · 11/04/2020 07:43

Thanks all, @Fearne18 my letter says I can bring one person...
