How are you feeling if so? How far along are you?

I’m due 12th August, 21 weeks 1 day today, first baby and I’m having a boy!

I’ve felt a bit overwhelmed with this whole pandemic and the unknown of whether it’s going to be better by then! Fingers crossed for the best.

I also really want to start buying things but feel bad for shopping online given the current scenario, I just don’t want to leave it all til last minute and be really unprepared.

Would love to hear from you all Flowers

Oh cool @heroineinahalfshell same day!
@Oldestchild90s I am probably the worst person to talk to about overdue babies as my first was 15 days overdue in the end!! However I wasn't concerned or hating it. Plus was happy I got to attend a friends wedding still and there had been a funeral to that I wanted to get to. So for me baby waiting was a good thing. She was just to comfy.

@squashie34 if you are worried, you should call. I had a quiet spell on Saturday (I'm 26+3) so called them and they still asked me to go in to check everything was ok as usually I have strong movements. They said I definitely did the right thing. As soon as the midwife put the doppler on my stomach my baby kicked so hard it knocked the doppler off - typical!

On the whole breastfeeding chat this company are doing free online courses. Think this week is booked up but heres the link for them on Eventbrite. They're also on Instagram etc,.

@cannotmakemymindup thank you for thermometer recommendation. I will have a look in Boots. Well on their website at least. I read on NHS website a digital one that goes in the armpit is the best and then read other conflicting things everywhere else and got confused.

cannotmakemymindup · 11/05/2020 16:07

@JMill13 I was unaware that under arm is what the NHS recommended. I found it a bit tricky if your baby/child is ill with under arm thermometer as they tend to wiggle. So hard to get an accurate reading. All depends on how fast it works. The underarm one we had when our daughter was little took what felt like 30 seconds to take a reading.

Evening ladies! Welcome to all the newcomers, this thread has been lovely so hope it helps you all.

Re breastfeeding, there’s an online breastfeeding workshop that is daily (but runs out of space quickly) which may be helpful for you if anyone is looking for some advice. Think it may be the same one as previously linked? The link is www.eventbrite.co.uk/o/blossom-antenatal-30028089478 - my husband found out about it online and we’re planning on doing it this week. I’m also a HV and do breastfeeding support as part of my job, I’m happy to maybe take photos of my resources or signpost anyone to good evidence based info / videos if you’d like? Fwiw I’m quite worried that doing this at work is gonna make me put too much pressure on myself to be able to BF successfully which is a little scaryBlush

For thermometers, in general for children the ear ones (tympanic) are best and most accurate. However they usually aren’t really appropriate for babies under the age of one as the bit that goes in the ear is too big sl not very accurate. An underarm one is best for babies until their ears are big enough. None of this no contact rubbish thermometers they sell nowadays - you’d never see us using that in hospitals lol. Sorry this is my inner nurse coming out Grin

Anyone else getting swollen ankles? I can’t see any swelling but I’ve noticed some ankle pain at night especially and have been sleeping with my feet propped up which seems to help. Only 26 weeks so not keen on being all swollen so quickly!

@squashie34 I count the rolling as movements as I feel baby is still smaller and has some space to move around, ending up in weird positions where kicks are not so obvious. But definitely call in if you’re worried, much better to feel silly about it than the risk something may be wrong!

sel2223 · 11/05/2020 17:25

Thanks for the tips on BF and thermometers ladies, all very helpful x

Beau2020 · 11/05/2020 17:45

Guys I need honest opinions on this rug? We bought it from and online shop in Germany for about £150 but I just don't think it goes now it's here? We measured it way too big and I feel it's overpowering the room? What's your thoughts??

Anyone else due August 2020?
sel2223 · 11/05/2020 17:49

Aww @Beau2020 I think that looks gorgeous!

squashie34 · 11/05/2020 17:51

@Beau2020 that's stunning! I love that cot so much! ❤️

Beau2020 · 11/05/2020 17:58

@sel2223 thank you so much! I'm still not sold on the rug @squashie34 but love the cot also! X

cannotmakemymindup · 11/05/2020 18:05

@Nfblues I think if you could do some signpost some resources that would be greatly appreciated about breastfeeding! Just make sure with yourself, you treat yourself how you would treat your patients - kindly and definitely no pressure.

Interesting about thermometers and sizing etc,. That makes a lot of sense.

2020Aug · 11/05/2020 18:14

Thanks for the BF link, I've signed up for one of the events in June :)

That looks lovely @Beau2020

JMill13 · 11/05/2020 18:34

@nfblues ooh thank you for all of this! Appreciated. First ones that come up on amazon seem to be head ones. Will get a underarm and in ear one that way I'll be prepared each stage of babies development. Some links/resources for BF stuffs would be amazing if you have the time.

@beau2020 I love it. I think it goes really nicely with grey of the cot/furniture but I think some matching pink accessories would make it fit better, tie it altogether a bit more.

Beau2020 · 11/05/2020 18:47

Thank you!

@JMill13 yes i agree! I think perhaps with some more pink decoratives it would look a bit more fitting. I'm in 2 minds whether to return it haha! Xx

JMill13 · 11/05/2020 19:24

@beau2020 I'd say try some accessories first and see what you think, or play about with the position even and then if you still don't rate it return it.

Nfblues · 11/05/2020 19:49

@Beau2020 what a gorgeous nursery! I agree some pale pink accessories would help tie it in so it doesn’t look so random with all the grey. Have you tried bringing the rug forward also so it isn’t under the bedside tables? That might stop it distracting from the cot/tables I think.

Speaking of nurseries, I ordered the cutest pastel rainbow for our non existent one. I figured I can put some prints and a little shelf above the changing table in our bedroom and hang it from there. Buying the cute extra bits is so much more exciting for me than the big things like prams etc lol.

Bare with me ladies, there’s quite a bit but I might make a word doc with bullet points of key points and links to online leaflets and videos. That way it can be saved on your phone/computer and looked at when it’s needed? I have about ten million leaflets tucked away in a folder somewhere! Making dinner currently but will definitely do it later on. It’s good for my own memory as well, I seem to be losing some brain cells and am forgetting all sorts of basic things lool

cannotmakemymindup · 11/05/2020 19:55

@nfblues thanks that sounds awesome! Thanks for being willing to put that together.
I to found a class for June for the breastfeeding I really need visual reminders on latch etc,!

Feelthefear01 · 11/05/2020 19:57

Not sure if this has been covered yet, but when are people going on mat leave??

cannotmakemymindup · 11/05/2020 20:01

I am already on Mat leave as I had to stop working due to the lockdown and either my clients being extremely vulnerable or home currently.

I had hoped to go to finish at month 7 as last time with an office job I just got to tired to continue.

Feelthefear01 · 11/05/2020 20:07

I'm having to work from home and can't fit behind my desk any more Confused. I'm supposed to be going on mat leave at 37 weeks but I'm already don't sleep and feel utterly exhausted (25 weeks) this is effecting my mental health and work performance. I'm not sure if to bring it forward 2 weeks and take my remaining 3 weeks AL before this. I fear my options are doing this, going off sick or being fired. Blush

Lolxx · 11/05/2020 20:34

I’ve requested that my maternity leave starts the week before I’m due. I’m off work from the NHS & don’t see me being back before this anyway so don’t want to waste any time on the other side with baby

Oldestchild90s · 11/05/2020 20:50

I want to go on Mat leave on 31st July (two weeks before due date) however, i've been told quite a few times i should already be off because of the whole Covid-19 thing. It's so confusing to me, some have told me i should have been furloughed and some told me i should get full pay but my work only offered SSP which i can't afford!

Feelthefear01 · 11/05/2020 20:55

@Oldestchild90s, what do you do? Are you still actively at work? If I was furloughed I would plan my leave the week baby was due. However, I'm doing my normal job, just from home and with less support

Oldestchild90s · 11/05/2020 21:01

@Feelthefear01 Yeah just working in pharmacy, i suppose it's not the most high risk job in the world but i work in a health centre thats basically half turned into an isolation hub and it's a little bit 'squeaky bum time' for a pregnant woman if you get me!
