How are you feeling if so? How far along are you?

I’m due 12th August, 21 weeks 1 day today, first baby and I’m having a boy!

I’ve felt a bit overwhelmed with this whole pandemic and the unknown of whether it’s going to be better by then! Fingers crossed for the best.

I also really want to start buying things but feel bad for shopping online given the current scenario, I just don’t want to leave it all til last minute and be really unprepared.

Would love to hear from you all Flowers

@cannotmakemymindup I would prefer to BF more than formula but as I want to mostly express I was worried about my supply by expressing a lot. Can you still continue to make a good supply if you are expressing? I’m also worried about feeling like a cow all day by expressing but I want my DP to be involved in feeding too

cannotmakemymindup · 11/05/2020 01:17

@Lolxx I honestly personally don't know about what your supply could do. Someone else on here may be more wise to this.

I know sometimes some women if anything end up with an over supply through expressing. Depends if you express at different times to when you would normally feed baby. If you express when you would normally be feeding baby, whilst partner is giving bottle of expressed your body will still get same signals. But that's not in the early days/weeks when you are establishing a supply and pattern to your baby. Sorry I cannot be more helpful.

Lolxx · 11/05/2020 01:22

@cannotmakemymindup thank you for your help! I’m quite clueless to BF as no one around me has ever chosen to do it. I don’t feel like my midwife has had any conversations regarding BF or birth plans or anything! Maybe this doesn’t happen until further on?

cannotmakemymindup · 11/05/2020 01:29

Normally you would be offered an antenatal course on breastfeeding. You maybe could do one online instead? @Lolxx I have seen courses certainly advertised some free on social media.

Lolxx · 11/05/2020 07:03

@cannotmakemymindup I’ve started doing an online antenatal course which I’m sure covers BF. I’ve also got a book from my booking appointment about it but it’s all about exclusively BF & doesn’t talk much about expressing. I’m sure I’ll work it out & just do what I have to do lol!

Bert2020 · 11/05/2020 08:19

@Lolxx with dd1 the breastfeeding course was from 36 weeks at my trust. It’s definitely worth looking into an online course as these are so many at the moment. Hopefully face to face will open up before our babies arrive but better to be sure.

JMill13 · 11/05/2020 09:47

Breasting feeding sounds like a whole mad mind field. I'll definitely have to take up the advice and join online classes I think. I'm not going to pressure myself into it though, if it doesn't work then fair enough at least I tried.

@cannotmakemymindup @stephd2020
living in NI makes it a bit easier as our rules haven't changed at all for now. I feel like what he was saying was you can travel for exercise (so yay, beach) if you feel it is safe to do so. I personally won't for a while though, I pee entirely too often to travel too far from home at the minute and I hate public toilets at the best of times never mind during this. Too many people seem confused by the new slightly altered message so there might just be an influx of people doing whatever they damn well please, if the VE day street parties/bank hol weekend get togethers are anything to go by, there may even be a rise in covid cases in 2-3 weeks time. I'm gonna wait for that all to shift and then think about going back to a bit more normal. I don't think its fair that we're allowed to go back to work if we can't WFH and spend all day with colleagues but can't go and sit in a family driveway/doorstep/backgarden/etc. Socially distanced of course.

JMill13 · 11/05/2020 09:47

Breasting feeding 😂😂🙈 Breastfeeding

squashie34 · 11/05/2020 11:03

Just a quick question.. baby seems a bit quieter this morning as she's not doing those karate kicks to the stomach that you can see my tummy move or feel when I put my hand on. I can feel things inside such as rolls and a jiggle/tightening in different places so it's not like there is no movement there at all, they're just not kicking out of my stomach.. Do these sort of movements still count? I'm wondering whether it's because she's moved into a different position? This movement thing is sending me mad because as a ftm I don't know what classes as a movement and I don't want to go in for the 3rd time in just over a week for reduced movements if this doesn't actually count as reduced? 🤯

sel2223 · 11/05/2020 11:45

@squashie34 I count all those as movements, at this stage (26+4), I am happy as long as I can feel her moving as I know it's just her moving around and the placenta cushioning some of the movements.
Some days it feels like she's spinning and kicking like crazy for most of the day, other days (like yesterday) it's much more soft and gentle.
If in doubt, call your midwife, but I do think it's completely normal at this stage.

Oldestchild90s · 11/05/2020 11:46

@squashie34 same with me! Because i'm still at work i don't really realise the movements/kicks and stuff during the day but more so at night, but the thing i wonder is how would i notice reduced movements if i never really felt them anyway? I would say those movements still count but i'm not sure either 🤔

Chez2306 · 11/05/2020 11:50

Hey guys,

Only just seen this sorry! Thank you all for the positive words! How are you all feeling today? What day in August are you all due?

My little ones a boy! Was so happy as I found out his gender on my late grandads birthday and so baby will have the family name now!

Hope everyone's feeling ok with the current situation of the country too, stay safe! I look forward to getting to know you all better 💕

sel2223 · 11/05/2020 11:51

@Oldestchild90s my midwife was very reassuring and said movements are all pretty positive at this stage. Baby is still very small with room to move around so the slightest change in position can make a big difference to how much you feel.
It's more 28 weeks onwards when you should start to notice a regular pattern so that's when they recommend really tracking it from.

sel2223 · 11/05/2020 11:53

Hi @Chez2306 that's lovely that your baby boy is going to have a family name.
We're having a little girl, due on 13th Aug.

Bert2020 · 11/05/2020 12:01

Having a boy too, due the 22nd but with GD and PIH last time will be early just have to wait and see how early.

Oldestchild90s · 11/05/2020 12:02

@sel2223 Thanks for the reassurance 🥰
@Chez2306 Brill news about your boy! We're having a girl due on 15th August!

squashie34 · 11/05/2020 12:02

@sel2223 I'm just 28 weeks now and I think that's why I'm more focussed on this 'pattern'.. like I mentioned i still had morning movements this morning (which seems to be her pattern, first thing when I wake up) but they have just been much more subtle as rolling types and only felt from inside not with my hand on my tummy as opposed to her trying to break out like a ninja 😂 so I'm confused if that's reduced because it isn't the same type of movement? (god those with kids already must be really rolling eyes at me for being thick right now 🙈)

Bert2020 · 11/05/2020 12:08

@squashie34 please don’t feel like that, I and I’m certain the others would never roll their eyes. I have anterior placenta (last time too) thankfully felt movement earlier this time last time I was 26 weeks before I felt anything. If you are concerned at all then ask here and also call your midwife. The Tommy’s website is actually really good and gives great information and they have midwives you can contact too. Each and every pregnancy is different, my last was 4 years ago, there is so much I have forgotten or has changed.

mable88 · 11/05/2020 12:14

Honestly, these babies are absolute nightmares when it comes to movements! My little madam had a really quiet day yesterday, I felt a few muffled movements so was a bit anxious - then she really got going as I got into bed. Hmm She started at half 4 this morning and has barely stopped since then, lord only knows what she’s up to in there! I have an anterior placenta too, which I think can make a big difference in what we feel day to day. I barely ever feel baby on my right hand side, so I’m convinced that’s where my placenta is sitting. I think the advice is if you’re ever in doubt then just call in, the midwives would rather check and everything be fine than the other way round. Smile

Welcome @Chez2306 Grin little girl due 19th August for me!

Lolxx · 11/05/2020 12:31

@Chez2306 I’m due the 28th August with a baby boy!

@squashie34 I often feel like this too with the movements! Some days he’s kicking like crazy from when I get up & other times it’s slight movement, but when I get to bed later that night it’s intense again. I’m assuming it’s how he’s been lying during the day or how much attention I’ve paid. I would try to track it over a 24hour period rather than a few hours but if you are in any doubt always phone your midwife. It’s better safe than sorry!

cannotmakemymindup · 11/05/2020 12:47

@squashie34 I agree though this is my second baby I have a 6 year age gap and it is all new again. Definitely no eye rolling here. I to have been worrying. I have anterior placenta which like @Bert2020 I think is on right side high up as that's where I barely feel movements. I got worried Thursday/Friday about movements so went in to hospital to check everything out. All good but got a little telling off from Dr that if I was worrying I should have gone in earlier! Don't leave it.

@Oldestchild90s ah thats the same day my baby is due!!

heroineinahalfshell · 11/05/2020 13:21

@Oldestchild90s @cannotmakemymindup I'm also due 15th Aug, a little girl! Can't believe we're almost at 3 months to go already :)

Oldestchild90s · 11/05/2020 13:34

@cannotmakemymindup @heroineinahalfshell Woohoo same day babies. People keep scaring me by telling me 'i'll probably go over with my first' i'm counting down by the second as it is i don't want to go over 😩😩😩 this is different from person to person right?

Superscientist · 11/05/2020 13:46

I'm due on the 17th which feels simultaneously too soon and really far away.
I don't fancy going over, I have had a few people joke that she might get a September birthday (which would be 40+15) no no no!
My mum only went over with her third, my older sister and myself were both on time /early, although my sister went over with my niece (her first).

If you are worried about movements give them a call, you can always ask them to clarify what you should to watching out for /what counts as movement etc.

Beth804 · 11/05/2020 13:49

@squashie34 I'm sure all is fine, but if you're worried I'd give them a call. They always prefer you to check and are so reassuring 😊

@Chez2306 Congratulations! Lots of boys about! 💙 I'm having twin boys due 21st August, but will probably be induced at 37 weeks if they don't arrive before! 😬
