Where was your first midwife booking appointment?!

Hi everyone

Hoping you guys can put my mind at ease! Currently 7 weeks pregnant. Received a call from the booking team over the weekend giving me my first midwife appointment for tomorrow morning. It's our first baby so all very exciting! However, when the booking lady called, I was actually on a building site and really struggling to hear! Thankfully I caught the date and time but now I realise I have no idea where the appointment actually is! Never felt more stupid! I presumed it would be at my regular GP practice but now I'm doubting myself! Called the GP surgery to check, they said they don't have any info on the midwife appointments as they are arranged separately and to call the midwife booking line. I've done that but its just an answering machine that says they'll get back to me within a week. Not helpful when appointment is tomorrow! Am I right to assume the appointment will be at the GP practice?! I realise the answer probably varies a lot. Imagine the embarrassment if I miss my first appointment due to being in the wrong place! I'm in the Tayside area of Scotland if that helps

Thank you

Both of mine (several years apart and in different areas) were at home.

chipnightisthenestnight · 03/03/2020 10:25

Booking was at home for me.

Keyboard91 · 03/03/2020 10:27

Mine was at the GP surgery so it does vary!

GP surgery should be able to confirm if there is a midwife clinic at the surgery tomorrow? Or keep trying the booking line to see if it changes to a human at any point?

SparkleUK · 03/03/2020 10:29

Mine was at the GP surgery too and they booked it for me at their reception so I imagine things work differently in different places.

It's just lots of form filling about you and partner as well as bloods etc

BeautyAndTheBump1 · 03/03/2020 10:31

All of my midwife appointments have been at my GP surgery.
Surely your GP surgery can confirm if the midwife holds her appointments there? They normally have set days. My midwife is in on a friday.

Raindancer411 · 03/03/2020 10:31

Mine was at a school where they use to have the children centres (not sure what they call them now)

whisper1991 · 03/03/2020 10:31

Mine was at my local hospital!

Dullblue · 03/03/2020 10:31

Mine was at a hospital

SheWolfofFrance · 03/03/2020 10:31

DS1 local children's / health centre

Ds2/Dd doctors surgery but later in my pregnancy neither DD midwives we're moved out of the dr surgery to the children's centre

I'd keep calling back until you have an answer. Could also be at the hospital? My friend lives in a different area to me and all her appointments were at the hospital. Epu for first 20 weeks and then DAy assessment until for 20+ weeks

Bert2020 · 03/03/2020 10:31

Mine was at the hospital, I would keep calling. Normally lines are busy in the morning so try after lunch?

Isthistrueor · 03/03/2020 10:32

Had one at the hospital on a Saturday which was strange. Most were in a clinic like the sort you go to for out of hours appointments. Had a couple in the GP’s surgery too.

Quiffy · 03/03/2020 10:33

Could it be worth phoning your local maternity unit? I've had mine but it was at a local hospital unit I'd never heard of. I also missed where it was at the time, I managed to phone the booking line and got to doublecheck, so maybe keep trying the number?

Lozz22 · 03/03/2020 10:44

Mine would've been at the local hospital

mynameiscalypso · 03/03/2020 10:48

Mine was at the local children's centre. All my other appointments were at my hospital.

Chiso1 · 03/03/2020 10:51

Thanks so much for all of your lovely responses. I feel so ridiculous I have to laugh! I've clocked up 14 calls to the booking line and 10 to the local maternity unit but still just machines. Somebody is probably cursing my relentless ringing but I'll keep trying!

The GP receptionist just said sometimes appointments are held there but she has no information on anything specific this week. The mission continues

Mine was at my local GP's and they too keep their bookings separate fr

Bookworm83 · 03/03/2020 11:06

Posted too soon!
Was supposed to say "they too keep their bookings separate from the midwife's".

Lilice · 03/03/2020 11:28

Mine was at the hospital. Maybe you could ring the maternity unit at the local hospital to check.

LexiM · 03/03/2020 12:13

I feel your pain! I would keep calling to double check.
The way that works is really annoying, mine is booked for next week at a private clinic in town (I’m NHS) this was despite the doctors receptionist telling me all appointments were at the doctors before the midwife text an appointment. She just text a name of a venue but no address. It took me many calls over hours to get through to confirm where that was!

I wonder if going forward that’s the number you have to call for everything... hoping not!

Babyshine2020 · 03/03/2020 12:50

Mine was a GP practice but not the one I'm registered at..

Roozy123 · 03/03/2020 13:10

My booking app was at a children's centre.

Dyra · 03/03/2020 13:15

Definitely keep ringing. There's

My booking appointment was at the community hospital where the local midwives are based. All other appointments were at the GP.

Camouflage · 03/03/2020 14:00

I'm in Scotland too and mine was at my GPs surgery. My midwife runs a clinic there one day a week so I always see her there on the same day x
