Sweep 3rd baby

bonjourbonjour · 25/02/2020 04:47

Hello!
Nearly 39 weeks with my 3rd baby and having a sweep in the morning to get labour started.
I had sweeps with my 1st and 2nd and they did nothing. Is this one more likely to work because its my third?

Has anyone had a successful sweep for their 3rd babies? Could do with some positive storiesSmile
Thank you!

Morning, just bumping.

I'm 40+2, (second baby) and also having a sweep in the morning. Had one with my first, and labour happened 24 hours later, so fingers crossed!

Good luck!

10am... so fingers crossed for us both!

It’ll bring labour on if you were going to labour in the next 48hrs anyway. So no guarantees but a fairly easy way to potentially kick things off!
Your cervix is more likely to already be favourable as this is your third.
Had my first sweep yesterday at 38+6, next is Thursday. This is my second baby. Np action so far!

summeryet · 25/02/2020 11:10

Sweep complete... wasn't the best fun ever, but not terrible. Posterior cervix though, but they could reach the babies head. Currently at 2cm.

Another booked for Friday if it's required.

Hoping that all is well with you OP!

Well! My cervix was thick and hard and just not ready, they couldn't even do the sweep. So they poked my cervix a bit...
Im spotting a bit and crampy but just can feel my body isnt ready.

So pleased for you that you are 2cm! I hope things start tonight🤗

@summeryet you are further along than me. Im 38+6 so maybe thats why?
2cm and the baby's head thats amazing! Could they have broken your waters?
They said my baby's head was very far up and they could not get to it!

Things change quickly, so hopefully you get going soon!

Re waters.. no idea! No signs of anything following the sweep.

Will you have another attempt in a few days? They can do them every three apparently.

bonjourbonjour · 25/02/2020 18:25

@summeryet Ive had cramping on/ off all day but I can just tell its not doing anything. Im also spotting but very lightly.
How about you, anything?

I had a sweep prior to an induction for low platelets. Induction booked for Saturday so I wont be getting another one I think.
Will you?

You could always try Friday, as that makes three days...?

I'm booked for then. Keen to avoid induction (my last birth was not fun)!

Spotting is something... they say that it can take 48 hours for the outcome, so I'll keep everything crossed for you! Nothing happening here :(

bonjourbonjour · 25/02/2020 20:51

Are you being induced for being late?

No bleeding/ show/ cramping- nothing at all?

Im going to try and have sex tonight, I think its by far the most effective. If you really want to avoid being induced Id try that before anything else.

Hope you start contracting soon!

OP posts:
summeryet · 26/02/2020 15:19

How are you faring?

No changes here.. induction would be next week for me if nothing happens in the interim!

bonjourbonjour · 26/02/2020 18:02

Hey! Ive had little contractions for the last hour but I can tell they are fizzling away... the first one was quite strong. For a split second I thought yay but nope.
Induction booked for Monday. Im seeing the MW on Friday but its my sons birthday on Saturday so dont really want the baby to come then so wont be asking for a sweepS
Have you been trying to trigger your labour or just taking it easy?

I'll keep fingers and toes crossed for you!

What's your age gap? I have an 18month old.

Keeping moving and bouncing on my ball. Also massaging the bump with clarysage oil. Might enlist some help from the husband tonight ;) really not feeling it, but needs must! WinkShock

bonjourbonjour · 26/02/2020 22:44

Its all stopped now!
I have a 9 year old and a 6 year old so much bigger gaps than you! Having a new born seems like a lifetime ago to me.
18 months sounds like a lovely gap, hope everything you try works for you🤞🏼
My heart burn is really bad tonight, which means the baby is sitting high, which means it has NO intention of coming down/ out. Ill just be patient...
Sleep well! X

Ha! Yours sound like sensible age gaps.. they'll be able to help a bit!

summeryet · 28/02/2020 19:00

Hi,

Had a second sweep today, baby is lower and cervix is beginning to shorten.. how are you faring?

bonjourbonjour · 28/02/2020 22:00

Hi! Thats great news Im really pleased for you, you're heading in the right direction!
Any show or sign of anything tonight?

I was offered another sweep sometime tomorrow. Ive had a couple of hours of contractions a day but I dont think they are doing anything. Will let you know tomorrow!

Sleep well xx

summeryet · 29/02/2020 07:15

Good luck for today!

bonjourbonjour · 29/02/2020 15:22

Thank you at @summeryet they offered me the sweep around 10am but Im alone all day today and this is the ONE day I cant go into labour.
So they said they'd try and give me one later on but more likely tomorrow now.

How about you? Nothing at all?

OP posts:
summeryet · 29/02/2020 15:30

Hopefully you have more luck tomorrow!

Nothing here... just a million messages from people asking if he's here. I know that they're well meaning, but it makes me want to scream!

bonjourbonjour · 29/02/2020 15:53

@summeryet those msgs are so so annoying. I just reply by saying stuff like 'baby tucked under my ribs, dr says it wont be for another week at least'

How many weeks are you now?

OP posts:
summeryet · 29/02/2020 16:54

41 Confused

Remmy123 · 29/02/2020 17:03

Third baby means nothing - I went so over due with my third loads of sweeps and induction

bonjourbonjour · 29/02/2020 20:29

@summeryet yikes. You must be so uncomfortable... how are you sleeping?

Just got back from the hospital- bless them they saw me really late. Cervix much more favourable and sweep was done. It was much more bearable than Monday. She said she could feel the baby's head and things were heading in the right direction.
Jumping on my ball as we speak and hoping I go into labour naturally!

How are you feeling emotionally?
Ive been incredibly grumpy all day and now feeling much more positive. Im going to have a glass of red wine :)
