Sweep 3rd baby

bonjourbonjour · 25/02/2020 04:47

Hello!
Nearly 39 weeks with my 3rd baby and having a sweep in the morning to get labour started.
I had sweeps with my 1st and 2nd and they did nothing. Is this one more likely to work because its my third?

Has anyone had a successful sweep for their 3rd babies? Could do with some positive storiesSmile
Thank you!

Good luck! A sweep worked with my 2nd and she came at 10days over.

My 3rd, none of the sweeps worked and she was induced at 42wks BUT it was by far the easiest and quickest of my 4. They just broke my waters and she was out in 2hrs.

So still really positive. Good luck for Monday!

@bonjourbonjour contractions!! That's mega positive.. your body is obviously gearing up!! Fingers crossed that they restart soon :) and even if not, hopefully it means that the body is ready, so induction would be straight forward and swift.

I totally get the emotional stuff, feeling very deflated and anxious atm. I totally get that a healthy baby is what matters, but we had such a bad birth experience last time that I just really wanted to follow a natural course.

We're off out for a mammoth walk today.

Chin up x

bonjourbonjour · 01/03/2020 18:11

No more contractions for me! About to have a glass of red and relax in front of a movie.

How was your mammoth walk? Any signs? You must be so fed up. Sorry to hear you are feeling emotional too. Hope your husband is making you feel extra special and helping a bit xx

Hi, the walk resulted in cramping, and also a sciatic flare up! Confused so not feeling hopeful.

DH is being lovely, but will be off work work tomorrow, so it'll be me and the 18 month old!

How are you feeling? Did you say that you have an induction booked for tomorrow? If so, very good luck! Please keep me posted. Daffodil

bonjourbonjour · 02/03/2020 07:30

@summeryet Oh my god I have sciatica! Its the worst!!!! Ive had it with all my pregnancies. Its under control at the moment but lying on my back for an examination for example is agony. I wanted to have a wax but cant face being on that beautician bed. How are you managing yours?

Yep Im off to be induced at lunch time! I dont think my body is ready and Im a bit scared. I dont like leaving my children and not being able to say when Ill be back. They will start with the pessary and see. I was induced with my first on the drip and it wasnt fun at all. Have you ever had the pessary?

How are you feeling today?

OP posts:
summeryet · 02/03/2020 08:23

Morning @bonjourbonjour... at least you know that you'll have your baby super soon. I have no experience of induction, but fingers crossed that the pessary is successful by its self! I'd take the fact that you've already had sweeps and contractions as a sign that you should progress swiftly.

Re the sciatica, nothing seems to help other than the ball and heat pads. Mine is sporadic, but I've never known anything like it, so I feel your pain! And as for a wax... the midwives won't bat an eyelid!

What childcare do you have lined up? Is your husband going with you today?

Good luck and keep posting! Wine

summeryet · 02/03/2020 20:12

@bonjourbonjour hoping that you're faring well!

dramaticpenguin · 02/03/2020 20:19

summeryet · 02/03/2020 21:52

Feeling your pain @dramaticpenguin ! I'm 41+1, third sweep tomorrow, and all people say is 'you're just not relaxed enough'... that hardly helps!!

Good luck x

bonjourbonjour · 03/03/2020 07:21

@summeryet hey!
So the induction took FOR EVER yesterday, I nearly walked out and left.
When they were finally ready to out the pessary in, the baby's head popped out of my pelvis and went oblique. Had to wait 4 hrs for a scan and bounced on the ball trying to pop it back in. Eventually it worked and was given pessary and then went home. Took about 7 hrs for them to give me a scan + pessary. So much lying on the bed and being monitored it drove me nuts.

Anyway contractions started around 10pm at home. In my back mainly and very regular. My app kept telling to go to hospital. Knowing how slow it was with my second I just ignored them. So Ive been contracting steadily all night (with a break between 10-4 am when I think I slept a bit) and now back to contractions every 3/4 mins.

I did this with my middle son and when I got to the hospital after hours of contractions that were every minute and a minute long, I was found to not even be 1cm yet. So long... I am a bit scared this is happening again, trying to be as relaxed as possible.

Hope your sweep goes well today! Let me know how you get on xx

@bonjourbonjour good for hear from you! Fingers crossed that you progress. I'm at the hospital, just waiting for a bed. Contractions started at about 10pm and were very regular, but have now slowed. Only 3cm Confused

bonjourbonjour · 03/03/2020 12:49

@summeryet its finally happening for you!
3cm is good. And you're ready now, I hope it goes swiftly for you now.

Ive been contracting for 15hours and they are slowing down and I know Im still 1cm. Want to cry a bit...

Hope you are doing better than me🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼

Are you going back for another pessary?

So I'm currently 5cm! Hoping for a baby today x

bonjourbonjour · 03/03/2020 14:59

@summeryet thats amazing! Youre amazing!

They are going to try and break my waters in a bit. Im so drained and feeling disheartened. Im so scared to be examined and told im 1or 2cm. Sorry this isnt a very upbeat post xx

OP posts:
summeryet · 03/03/2020 15:18

Take care! Keep eating and drinking! You'll get there x

summeryet · 04/03/2020 15:03

@bonjourbonjour how are you faring?

Our little bundle was born at 3:52am this morning following a difficult labour (meconium in waters, depressed heart rate), but he only required two pushes! Hoping that you have similar good news today!

bonjourbonjour · 06/03/2020 14:07

@summeryet congratulations! So happy for you. Your labour sounds very stressful, what an ordeal for you.
Our little boy was born at 11pm on the 3rd. Induction failed until they put me on the drip and there it ramped up and i went from 3cm (took me 20hrs to get to 3cm) to 10cm in 4 hours. He was diddy (3.3kg) and came out in a few pushes too! The lady next door to me at the hospital had a baby weighing 4.7kgs🤯

How are you feeling now? Did you have many stitches? I had 2, which is by far my 'best'. Just loving relaxing at home and holding my baby. Not use to being up all night anymore but its so worth it♥️

OP posts:
summeryet · 06/03/2020 17:49

@bonjourbonjour huge congratulations to you and your family! We're faring well, although our little chap likes to party at night, and we're having a few feeding issues, but it's very early days!

Glad that you're recovering well! A small second degree tear here, but the stitches aren't causing an issue.

bonjourbonjour · 06/03/2020 18:34

@summeryet yes mine is up all night as well, its tough! Well by up I mean he wont settle anywhere else but my arms. And I really dont want to fall asleep with him near me so its this constant trying to out him down game. Game which is strangely inexistent during the day?

Im struggling with feeding too. My nipples are so cracked its very painful. Im trying to make him latch on properly and I think I do but they still bleed🤷🏻‍♀️ Ive got a shield but its a bit big for his little mouth. I dread every feed now... and this contractions during the feeds are no joke too jeez! What is your struggle with breastfeeding?

Glad your stitches are ok. Mine have always gotten infected so Im hoping go avoid that this time 🤞🏼

OP posts:
summeryet · 06/03/2020 19:17

@bonjourbonjour I feel your pain re nights! He seems to not mind being put down in the day at all! But will not tolerate it after dark! Re feeding, for the first couple of days he seemed to latch brilliantly, but now refuses. It's been a trying day! Have been syringing in colostrum, but I'm not sure that it'll be enough for long.

Fingers crossed for your stitches!

summeryet · 06/03/2020 19:17

@bonjourbonjour also... contractions during feeding.. my god!! I had completely forgotten this!
