When to buy a buggy?

Hey all.

After a bit of Advice, I’m 17 weeks and my local baby store has offered me the display buggy of what i want in the colour I want at £250 off. (Cybex Priam in perfect condition)

I would have to pay upfront but they will store it for me until I’m ready for it when I’m 34ish weeks.
But they do only have 1 available at this price.

But my sister said it’s too early and I should wait until 24 weeks but financially, that doesn’t give me enough time b4 I go on mat leave to pay it off.

Do I miss out on this offer as it’s too soon
Or purchase it knowing it’s not being kept in the house anyway.

When did you all buy your buggy’s?

Xx

I ordered my buggy system around the same time you're at now 17-18 weeks because they had an amazing deal on with a huge discount which I didn't want to miss out on in store. I would get it now if it's best for you. I had mine delivered when I was like 22 weeks pregnant even though they could have held it for me I just wanted it at my house so I knew it was all sorted.

Amichelle84 · 24/02/2020 19:38

I haven't bought my buggy yet, but I think of you see one you really like for a good price then why not?! I've seen one i love so much and will be so annoyed if it sells out before im 'allowed' to buy it.

Lunafortheloveogod · 24/02/2020 19:42

If it’s a good deal and it’s definitely the one you want go for it. Make sure it’ll fit in the car n all that stuff first too.

whiskersonkittenss · 24/02/2020 19:45

I got mine at around 26 weeks. It was down from £1500 to £700ish. I didn't want to buy one before then just incase something went wrong. I had the room at home to store it so I was able to check it over thoroughly as and when I fancied

Catlover10 · 24/02/2020 19:45

Im 23 weeks and not buying mine until about 28/30 weeks I don’t think, but this is because it will be the most expensive item to buy (I’m getting a 3 in 1 travel thing) and I can’t afford to buy it right now so I’m starting with the smaller bits for now. I also have no idea which to get actually I’m so overwhelmed by all the choice out there now!

Mysocalledlifexx · 24/02/2020 19:46

I got mine at 20wks due to being £100 off & never find that with bugaboo so id say get it. I saved over £500 buying deals when i was pregnant this time around.

Pilot12 · 24/02/2020 19:47

I would worry about the shop storing it, if it went out of business before you need it you might find you can't get your hands on it and you've paid for a buggy you don't have.

If you're paying for it upfront I'd store it at somebody's house if you don't want it at yours. We got ours at 20 weeks and kept it in the garage.

essexanon · 24/02/2020 19:51

Thanks all. I know it fits in the car etc as I tried it before
(and that’s when I fell In love with it)
If I get it now, I have enough time to pay it off of my credit card as it’s £950.
And Mum and sister have said they will buy my car seat and base which is £400 so the buggy is the only big purchase I am making and so need as much time as poss to pay it off and just don’t want to miss out on the deal if I can help it.

The shop are really kind and helpful and I’m sure if something did happen, they wouldn’t keep the whole £950 anyway going by a past review.
Plus they are keeping it for me so it’s not like I’d be asking to return something that’s been in my care and possibly been used or damaged in the mean time.

At least I’m not alone when it comes to buying a buggy early.

Xx

Get it, I did, but it is currently stored at parents house.

mrssunshinexxx · 24/02/2020 20:09

I just got mine this weeekend 2nd hand but was a really good deal still I'm 23 weeks and storing it in our office ( we aren't superstitious)

Eggcellent29 · 24/02/2020 21:35

It’s worth thinking about any guarantee that comes with it, as it will start from when you purchase it and you’re therefore wasting it to buying early. So if you buy it 6 months before you use it, that’s 6 months warranty down the drain.

We waited until as late as poss for this reason!

LulusMiniEgg · 24/02/2020 21:39

I work in the nursery industry and trust me pregnant ladies buy your prams ASAP! The Coronavirus is affecting all product and the factories are all shut and stock can’t be shipped. Our availability dates are slipping later and later on certain items and at this rate by June/July, there might not be many prams left to buy! It’s madness!

Keha · 24/02/2020 21:55

I bought mine at 22 weeks when I saw one I liked and was on offer. It's been sat in the house since, takes up a bit of space but not the end of the world.

squee123 · 25/02/2020 08:50

@LulusMiniEgg that's really interesting. It hadn't even occurred to me but it ia so obvious when you say it. Is it impacting other things like cots too?

Caspianberg · 25/02/2020 09:25

Do check elsewhere. Is that the new Priam ie the 2020 model, or the older 2018/19 model? As £950 plus £250 seems expensive for an offer on the priam.

Try looking on this website. You get 10% off all first orders.
www.naturalbabyshower.co.uk/collections/single-pushchairs

Based on this site above the 2020 model is between £960 and £1099 full price depending on what carrycot you choose. and the 2019 model £790-950 depending on carrycot. both would have a further 10 % off as well.
I assume the shop is selling the 2019 model 'cheaper' to get rid of it. In which case its not at all cheaper.

The website above also has a 2018 model if you don't mind, with car seat and isofix and carrycot all included for £825 (plus 10% off again)

essexanon · 25/02/2020 10:14

Hiya @caspianberg

Thank you for the info.

I’ve looked on that website but the 10% new customer discount doesn’t apply to the Priam. 2019 or 2020 model.

The cheapest 2019 model I could find on that website is £1089.35 on sale.

The cheapest 2020 model I couldn’t find on that website is £1149.85

I wouldn’t go older than 2019.

And the model the shop is offering is the premium black 2019 model with rose gold chassis. The rose gold chassis is a must Smile

If it’s a good deal then you may as well just get it, especially since they said they’ll store it for you until you’re further on. You could always sell it if anything horrid happens but chances are everything will be fine. Superstitions are silly really.

thosethreewords · 25/02/2020 17:34

I'm 23 weeks and ordered my Cybex Priam from natural baby shower last week because it was going out of stock in the colour I liked (black with rose gold). I LOVE IT. Put it together this weekend and storing it at my parents.
I would go ahead and order it!

Letsallscreamatthesistene · 25/02/2020 17:39

If its a good deal then get it. I got one when I was about 20 weeks because the deal I found was incredible (£500 reduction in price).

essexanon · 25/02/2020 18:09

@thosethreewords that’s the exact one they’ve offered me. It’s sooo lovely.

I’m gonna get it, i know I’ll kick myself if I don’t xx

I'm superstitious so refused to buy anything until as late as possible. Even then we only got the bare minimum and nothing was kept where we lived except why we needed to take to the hospital. All we got in advance was hospital essentials, crib and bedding, and pram.

99problemsandthecatis1 · 25/02/2020 18:16

Buy it. I'm sure the store could sell it on for you should the worst happen.

essexanon · 25/02/2020 20:14

I must eat my words @essexanon
I got an email today from Kiddies Kingdom to say they have the indigo blue and rose gold set for £849 so £66 cheaper than the display model that the shop offered me.
I also prefer the indigo to the black!

I am over the Moon!! Great price and it’s brand new. Definitely going to order it.

Just thought I’d share my news with you and say you was right! Thanks x
