I've spent the day in A&E after having a huge bleed :(

I've got to go back on Thursday for a scan to see what's going on.

I've been spotting this weekend and today soaked 3 pads plus had clots today.

It seems to have settled down the last couple of hours.

Am I just kidding myself or have I lost it?

I'm early pregnant but not 100% on dates as I'm so irregular.

If I'm losing it, is it normal to settle down then start bleeding again? Or should I just prepare for a loss. I'm gutted Sad

I had a miscarriage then fell pregnant two years later. I bleed up to approx 5 months. Once every month. No one could explain why? My son is 9 now

KenDodd · 24/02/2020 18:03

I'm sorry for your situation and hope you're both ok.

I had a lot of bleeding just like that and DIDN'T lose my baby. Hospital said it was very likely a twin pregnancy and loosing the twin was the most likely cause of all the blood and clots. Sadly I think this is the less common explanation though.

Pinksaffire · 24/02/2020 18:06

I had two big bleeds at 8&11 weeks and ended up in A&E with the first one. I was told I’d likely miscarry and was sent home to wait for a scan. There was a dancing baby 2 days later.
At 11 weeks I bled again (soaked pads and bled onto the floor) and was told to wait it out until my 12 week scan a few days later. This was the most awful wait not knowing if I’d lost the baby or not. I’m happy to say she is now 10 years old and we’re entering the joys of puberty!!

I bled at 5w for a month as a result of a haemotoma . Bright red, pads needed. Currently 24 weeks. Good luck.

outnumberedbyboysz · 24/02/2020 20:27

Thank you ladies. There is a small hope yet in me. If this one survives it will be a miracle baby 🙏🏼

I had a bleed at 15 weeks, arrived at EPU & their attitude was what do you want us to do about it? Spent a hellish 5 days until my next midwife appointment to hear a heartbeat, my bump is 16 now, going through GCSE mocks. I would say try to not worry but you will do, any woman would.

TankGirl97 · 24/02/2020 20:36

I had a big bleed, I think at around 8 weeks. Big gush of blood, way more than a period. Ongoing bleeding for many days afterwards (but no cramps). Baby was fine!
I've had miscarriages too so I know it can go either way. Miscarriage at similar gestation was much more like a period which continued for weeks.
Will keep my fingers crossed for you, it's a horrible wait.

Goodebe · 24/02/2020 20:41

I’ve added both too, miscarriages and bleeding where baby has been fine - the main difference being that the miscarriages were painful, cramps along with the bleeding. Hope you have a positive story to tell others on here in the future.

whiskersonkittenss · 24/02/2020 20:49

Bled at 12/13 weeks quite a lot with huge clots. Baby was fine and I'm having my c section this Thursday!

Babyshine2020 · 24/02/2020 21:05

I bled for three weeks. Filled two pads a day somedays, I had clots that would fall out (sorry if TMI!) and this was weeks 6-9. I was sent to the EPU and sent back weekly and my little peanut is currently sitting snug and a big (was so wiggley at the scan) at 16+2.

This was the 12 week scan at the end of Jan.

It's not always and news. I convinced myself we'd lost it, and just when I thought it was slowing down I'd wake up and it would've started again.

They could never tell me what happened or why I was bleeding, and I have the odd day now so it could just be me.

Here if you need a chat x

Thank you so much for these stories of hope. I've not had any significant pain with it which I think surprised them at the EPU. I have had 3 previous CS so I do wonder how much scarring I've got and whether that is a factor?

After I had my third son I bled near continuously for a year and my consultant mentioned the word haematoma but I didn't question what that was

I fell down a flight of stairs, got knocked over by a car in a car park and had a massive bleed during the night all in week 12 of my pregnancy. DS2 was just fine. Having had two previous miscarriages I obviously expected the worst after each incident. Hope it is a happy ending for you too 😊

outnumberedbyboysz · 25/02/2020 13:22

Nope I don't think this story is going to have a happy ending. I did another pregnancy test and it's dropped from 3+ to 2-3 weeks.

Thank you anyway tho- it was nice to have hope whilst it lasted 🙏🏼

Oh @outnumberedbyboysz - was this with concentrated urine? That's weeks have been renowned for being a bit of a gimmick- but I understand why you feel the way you do.

I'm still holding out hope for you

SallyWD · 25/02/2020 16:51

I'm so sorry to hear this OP. My mum had very heavy bleeding at 4 months when pregnant with me. It was assumed she'd lost the baby but here I am! Hoping for a good outcome for you.

I had a few big bleeds last week at 14 weeks and was in and out of the epu 3 times. Had a scan with them and a private one and baby/placenta is ok and the cause of the bleeding is unknown. It has calmed down a bit now and is mainly spotting and my bump seems to have popped out overnight so all seems well despite the bleeding. Your doing the right thing in getting it checked out.

Hhdxx · 25/02/2020 17:57

Hello could anyone help me please. I found out I was pregnant last Wednesday which means I'm just over four weeks. Since Friday I've had on and off brown discharge sometimes with brown stringy bits in. There was quite a bit today. Is this the sign of a chemical pregnancy or not? Thank you xx

outnumberedbyboysz · 27/02/2020 18:34

Ok so my hcg levels have gone from 3458 to 3896 in 2 days which is a slow rise. Scan today showed the sac but was hard to see what's going on. I'm going back in on sat for repeat bloods & Monday for another scan.

How depressing- if I'm going to miscarry I wish it would just get on with it rather than this torture :(

Happymumma29 · 27/02/2020 22:01

I had a bleed at 16 weeks and was told in hospital it was a threatened miscarriage. She is now 4. Fingers crossed for you op x

Pollaidh · 27/02/2020 22:07

In my first pregnancy I bled from about week 6 to week 12, lost the next one very early, and then bled throughout first trimester in pregnancy 3 too. Threatened miscarriage diagnosed. 1 and 3 are currently sleeping downstairs after successful pregnancies.

If and when you get a heartbeat on a scan at the EPU, then the chances become very good that all will be well.

Fingers crossed.
