Over due and fed up

I just want to moan. I'm overdue by a week nearly. I've had sweeps, curries, plenty of sex and nothing is shifting this baby. I'm so fed up. Heartburn is killing me, constant sore throat and my exercise ball is in constant use for about 4 hours a day. Please give me some inspiration ladies.

It’s the pits! I was 11 days overdue having been 8 days army with my first! I left work a month early thinking the baby would pop out anytime!!

I just kept reminding myself that it has to come out sometime! Good luck! I’m praying for spontaneous contractions!

T0rt0ise · 22/02/2020 22:22

I'm not even overdue yet (38+5) and feel exactly the same way. Constant heartburn, insomnia, vomiting/nausea in the evening and generally thoroughly fed up!I just keep reminding myself that he's got to come out at some point!

Laylor · 22/02/2020 22:26

Thanks ladies. Its truely awful. Every day over due feels like a week. I've slept like a dream for the most part of the pregnancy but these last 3 days I haven't. I slaver loads seriously 😂 i have to change my pillow case daily and it rolls down in to my ear its bizarre. Heartburn is probably the worst. I wake up with bursts of gas.

Try nipple stimulation/hand expressing (google hand expression for breastfeeding if this is your first baby or you haven’t breast fed before) as breastfeeding releases the hormone oxytocin which is responsible for the milk let down reflex. Oxytocin also triggers contractions. Or you could try having sex as oxytocin is also produced when you orgasm.

If you do breast stimulation/hand expression you need to do it for at least 10-15 minutes every few hours (2-3 hours) and need to do it some where quiet. So doing it in the bath/shower or some where you can relax will help as it will help you to relax.

Honestly it works, especially in early labour if contractions aren’t regular or slow down.

Blahblahblahnanana · 22/02/2020 22:41

With sex you need to orgasm. Prostaglandins in sperm can help the cervix to dilate but it’s an orgasm that will help to trigger contractions

Laylor · 22/02/2020 23:33

Thankyou. I had a go at nipple stimulation last week but stopped and I'm.not quite sure why. I'll get my breast pump out tomorrow and give that a whirl. Sp each boob 10-15mins every 2 to 3 hours

You can either do 10-15 minutes on one breast or swap in between. If you’re using a breast pump I’d probably do both breasts for a total of 15-20 mins. You’ll only express small amounts of colostrum so don’t worry about how much milk you’re expressing it’s more about stimulating the breast which triggers oxytocin and contractions at this stage

jadey0885 · 23/02/2020 00:51

Nipple stimulation will help and plenty of sex good luck Hun and congratulations

Sorry op no advice!

But I feel your pain! Dd was 10days overdue and I tried everything from about 38 weeks but nothing worked, I'm now a believer in they come when they are ready.

Pregnant now with #2 and no expectation of this one coming on or before due date

Laylor · 23/02/2020 13:03

I did one boob for 10 mins then started getting contractions and my waters broke. I actually cant believe it. Thanks so much for everyone's comments. X

How are you getting on @laylor?

whyisitsoflammingdifficult · 23/02/2020 16:20

@Laylor glad it worked. Hope everything is progressing nicely

Laylor · 23/02/2020 16:21

2cm dilated. The midwife seemed very pleased. (Is that good) I've come home for 24 hours and have another appointment tomorrow at 11 although she said shes pretty confident I will be back in the next few hours. Contractions are every 5 or so minutes lasting for just under a minute on average. X

whyisitsoflammingdifficult · 23/02/2020 16:38

You’re in early labour so that’s why she’s sent you home, the reason being you’re more likely to progress quicker being at home due to being in a familiar environment and are more likely to be less anxious than being in hospital. If your contractions are still every 5 minutes or so in the next couple of hours some more nipple stimulation may help them to become more regular. Once you’re getting 3-4 contractions In 10 minutes lasting for 50-60 seconds and starting to struggle a bit that’s the time to go back.

Also go back if you have any bleeding, change in baby’s movements or notice green/brown in the amniotic fluid (as you said you’re waters have gone), or if you start to develop a temperature, or start to feel unwell, or if you start to have an offensive smell coming from your vagina.

I’m assuming you’ve been asked to check your temperature as your waters have broken so they should have given you some temperdots to check your temp as you’re at risk of infection due to your waters breaking, the offensive vagina smell, temp, felling unwell etc are signs that you may have an infection.

whyisitsoflammingdifficult · 23/02/2020 16:41

Also make sure you keep eating and drinking as your body needs energy for the contractions. Keeping mobile (walking around, using a birthing ball and getting on all fours etc) will help with pain and will also help baby get into position ready for birth. You can also use a hot water bottle (on your back not your bump), massage and a warm bath to help with pain.

Isadora2007 · 23/02/2020 16:43

Exciting stuff. Good luck to you- hopefully your wee baby will be in your arms soon.

Laylor · 23/02/2020 18:06

Yeah I have to check my temperature every 4 hours with these strip things shes given me. Losing loads of water now, tiny bit of blood but she said that's normal as she had a root up there. Sometimes it feels like I will (TMI) s**t myself. Most of the contractions are painful but bearable. The last two were so bad I literally fell to the floor and lasted about a minute and half each with about a 5 min gap inbetween. When I was sat on the settee the interval was about 10 minutes and since I've been in the ball it's about 5 mins max. I assume being active is better than being sat about. Xx

whyisitsoflammingdifficult · 23/02/2020 18:30

It’s normal to feel like you’ll 💩 yourself, it’s the pressure of the baby’s head, but you may also need to empty your bowels as it helps baby navigate your pelvis. The temperature strips are called tempa dots.

Sitting on the ball with wide legs is better than sat on the sofa as it opens your pelvis and helps your baby get into position, as sat on the sofa doesn’t open your pelvis as much, but it’s ok to rest if you need to. Also try creating an area of relaxation such as dimming the room lights, playing music etc and make sure you keep eating and drinking x

Laylor · 23/02/2020 19:20

Thankyou. I've just done my temperature and it's fine. Will no doubt be up still in 4 hours so will test again before trying to get some sleep. Some of these contractions really knock you dont they. I had a good clear out this morning. It's weird because I've been up all night really restless with terrible acid, wonder if it was just my body getting ready. I've been sat on my ball for about 3 hours and it's much more comfier than the settee. Currently sat watching Aladin with the face on 😅

That’s amazing! Can’t believe how quick that worked. Although my friend did the nipple stimulation in bed to try and her waters went within minutes!! She then thought “what have I done? I’m too tired tonight, my bed is now soaking and I need to wake up my family to come and have DD” 😂 x

chocolatespiders · 23/02/2020 20:22

Yes stay as active as you can, the ball sounds like it is helping and comfortable.
Very best of luck Flowers

GivenchyDahhling · 23/02/2020 20:33

I went 13 days overdue. Hospital policy was to induce at 12 days, went in at 12 days to be induced but went into labour naturally before they got around to start the induction and DS was born in the early hours of the next day.

I tried everything mentioned above and nothing worked, so just wanted to say I really really understand how you're feeling! I found it so strange emotionally, like something I was really looking forward and then disappointment like it wasn't happening anymore, even though that's obviously completely irrational as obviously I was going to give birth eventually 😑

Totally agree re. the ball - I didn't sit on anything else, was sat on it for the vast majority of the day. Also had my poor DH driving me around as that relieved the early contractions (I had about 4 days of them), and also a TENs machine helped too - although once the proper contractions started the TENs machine did sweet FA.

Good luck though! It will happen, I promise!
