Did your sonographer ask if you would like to know the gender at your anomaly scan? X

Yes,they offered to tell us the sex. But I know it differs by hospital, so may not be the same for you.

smeerf · 02/02/2020 19:47

She asked if we'd like to know the sex, we did, she told us it was a boy (both times).

No she didn't ask if I wanted to know which I was glad as I didn't want to know anyway

Kittywampus · 02/02/2020 19:52

Yes, she asked at the start of the scan if we wanted to know the sex.

Notnowokay · 02/02/2020 19:53

I have always been asked before they start the scan. I have have said yes. My last scan he zoomed into ds genital and said here is your baby jewels and I burst into giggles as I didn't expect it to be so graphic (very child like I know). They normally only told me and I took there their word.

Bookworm83 · 02/02/2020 19:58

No, mine didn't offer.
It didn't matter though as I already knew from my Harmony test that I was having a boy.

mrssunshinexxx · 02/02/2020 20:06

Thanks everyone, true that every hospital is different I am unsure whether to mention politely at the start that if there's time I would like to know.. just don't want to get my head bitten off that that's not what the scans for as checking the organs etc comes way above whether it's a boy or a girl but I feel like a lot of people surely want to know x

First time round we had a consultant do the 20 week scan as there was a bit of a problem with the placenta. We were so taken aback by that that we didn’t remember anything about the sex until the end. We asked and she seemed surprised we wanted to know but told us without any issue. She definitely wasn’t going to offer though.

With the second pregnancy (same hospital) we just had a normal sonographer and she asked us if we wanted to know the sex towards the end, without us having to ask.

annlee3817 · 02/02/2020 20:13

Mine didn't, but we already knew from a private scan :)

MsChatterbox · 02/02/2020 20:23

Mine didn't. And I'm sure she would have said no if I asked as another lady cried on the phone that she didn't find out. I had already had a private scan though. This time round I haven't had one and really hoping they offer.

porridgeface · 02/02/2020 20:44

Mine asked and when I said we didn't want to find out she warned me when she would be looking around that area so we could look away and not see anything accidentally

Bol87 · 02/02/2020 20:47

Mine asked when he was got round to scanning that end.. not at the beginning. He checked & measured the legs & then asked if we wanted to know to gender. Much the same as my first pregnancy!

mrssunshinexxx · 02/02/2020 20:48

Thanks x sounds like they will probably tell us

I was asked at the start of my scan, so that when that general area was being checked, we would be told to look away. We didn't find out the sex.

TreeClimbingCat · 02/02/2020 20:57

Yes, but my sons are 17 and 14 so I don't know what the standard is. I was asked at the end if we wanted to know we said yes.

In fact when I had Ds2's scan, Dh had to leave the room with Ds1 who needed to toilet. The sonographer finished the scan and was chatting to me. I was worried something was wrong with the baby as she said she was waiting for my husband to come back.

Turns out everything was fine, she had a 9 month old baby herself and knew how special these scans were. Dh returned, she rescanned to show us his heart etc, then she showed us Ds's genitals and it was very obvious he was a boy.

Abzs · 02/02/2020 21:02

My hospital had a policy of not disclosing the sex and signs up asking you not to ask.

CeeceeBloomingdale · 02/02/2020 21:05

No, I had my two at different hospitals and neither time were we asked or prompted. We didn't want to know but probably would have forgotten to ask if we did.

ToastandCheese · 02/02/2020 21:11

They had signs up at ours saying they won’t tell you unless you specifically ask. Some don’t tell at all.

SapphosRock · 02/02/2020 22:07

DC1 we didn't want to find out and told the sonographer before the scan started and the sex wasn't mentioned at all. Had to have a further scan at 32 weeks, again made it clear we didn't want to know. Sonograoher said 'her' and 'she' throughout the scan though which gave the game away!

DC2 we were asked at the beginning if we wanted to know the sex but we already knew from a harmony test.

pottypotamus · 02/02/2020 22:34

We had a really grumpy sonographer who said we had to make it clear at the start of the scan if we wanted to know the sex. It was apparently in our notes which both me and DH had managed to miss. I asked at the end and she wasn't happy but grumpily told us anyway.

damaged888 · 03/02/2020 07:27

They did with me which was good because I didn't want to know so she told me to look away at certain parts.

mrssunshinexxx · 03/02/2020 07:59

@SapphosRock that's really annoying! X

Some hospitals have specific policies NOT to tell you. Sadly people do still abort babies based on gender alone. Some people try to sue the hospitals for getting it incorrect.

At ours, at the start the sonographer asked something like "would you like to try and see the gender today?" and we said no thank you. She told us to look away from the screen when she checked the region.

Bezalelle · 03/02/2020 09:48

Sex.

Sex.

Not gender.
