Newborn size or 0-3?

I'm expecting a baby girl end of May and just starting to buy bits and pieces for her wardrobe Smile

As it was ages ago since I had my first two, I can't remember what I did re sizing.

Do I buy Newborn or 0-1/0-3 size?

My other two boys (now 9 and 12) were both overdue. Eldest was 14 days late and 7lbs 14oz and youngest 10 days late and 7lbs 10oz. However, they were both with first husband who was quite short. My fiancé is 6ft so much taller.

She's currently on smaller side of normal range (had 20 week scan last week) but sonographer did say that doesn't necessarily equate to a smaller baby.

Congratulations!
Both times I’ve bought newborn and neither of my babies fit into it. Dd was 8lb 8 on her due date, and ds was 7 days late and 9lb 9oz. With dd I had bought loads of newborn but ds only a few sleepsuits so I didn’t waste much. With the size of your first two I’d get some newborn but don’t go overboard.

Both mine took ages to get into 0-3 month (I think they were near enough the three months before they fitted). I had to quickly buy them more o-1 month as I couldn't wash what we had quick enough.
Could you ask your new parents in law if dh and his siblings was a big baby/long (and your parents) it might direct you a bit more?

Babyfg · 19/01/2020 22:36

Also not sure if an help but my husband is 6foot 1 and as new borns ours we're still tiny! (My son is quite tall for his age and my daughter is the average now)

Bringonspring · 19/01/2020 22:36

Mine were 8lb do never fitted newborn!

THAT90sBITCH · 19/01/2020 22:37

I like up to one month stuff for a new baby, nice half way point between newborn and 0-3

I

BayWindow · 19/01/2020 22:37

I had a 7lb baby who had to go into tiny baby for 4weeks before newborn stuff fitted. He was nearly 3 months before he fitted in 0-3.

DD was 8lb 4 but was in newborn for about a month. I do think it depends on their proportions and also what shops you buy from - there is quite a difference in sizing between shops. Expecting DS in a few weeks and have got a few newborn and a range of 0-1 and 0-3.

BlessedBeTheFruitCake · 19/01/2020 22:42

I bought up to 1month from next because my DD was 8lb 4 and too big for the newborn size.

thrree · 19/01/2020 22:43

Newborn or up to 1 month if you want to play it safe. 0-3 swamped my near 9lber.

Eeeeek2 · 19/01/2020 22:44

Up to one month

MrsBungle · 19/01/2020 22:45

Both of mine took ages to get in to 0-3 and ds was 8lbs5.

SleepingStandingUp · 19/01/2020 22:49

I'd get 1 month (10lb) and 0-3 (14lb)

LazyYogi · 19/01/2020 22:54

DS was 6lb 14. We found the newborn "up to 7lbs" sizes useless mainly because the arms were so tight. He gained weight really well and the newborn "up to 10lb" sizes lasted him 4 weeks he was around 8.5lbs when the legs/feet became too small. 0-3 have been best as we just roll up the sleeves if they're a bit long.

DesLynamsMoustache · 19/01/2020 22:55

DD was born 7lb 10 and wore first size stuff for probably three weeks or so before 0-3.

TorysSuckRevokeArticle50 · 19/01/2020 22:57

Mine was 8lb 11 and fir into newborn for 1 week.

I would buy majority in 0-3 and 1 pack of baby grows in newborn. Hold back £20 for emergency extras if you need them in newborn.

Baby can wear slightly baggy clothes but not ones that don't do up, so I'd be more inclined towards them wearing clothes a bit too big for a week or two.

DramaAlpaca · 19/01/2020 22:58

I had to send DH out for some newborn sleepsuits when DS1 was born as he was tiny. He grew out of them in a couple of weeks though so I'm glad we didn't get many.

Willow4987 · 19/01/2020 23:00

We had majority in 0-3 but it took a good couple of weeks for him to fit into them.

DS was 8lb 2oz and on 91st percentile so a fairly big baby - mainly as my DH is 6 ft 3

Delbelleber · 20/01/2020 09:39

I think it depends more on the length of the baby than the weight. My ds knees were poking through the button gaps in newborn

Gustavo1 · 20/01/2020 09:43

I would get a few newborn or up to 1 month. My son was 9lb2oz and still wore newborn/0-1 for a good few weeks. You can get a set of 3 for about £6 at matalan for example so no need to go big budget.
My daughter was 7lb5oz and it was a good 6 weeks before the 0-3 were a reasonable fit on her.

Emberfoot · 20/01/2020 10:07

I've bought lovely things in 0-3 and nice preowned stuff in smaller so I don't break the bank on sizes it may never use.

peachgreen · 20/01/2020 10:10

My DD was 10lb 13oz and 98th centile for height and she still fitted into newborn for a couple of weeks. I had a few newborn baby-gros and then maybe 5 or 6 0-1 month sleep suits and vests which was really all she needed for the first month or so.

albus55 · 20/01/2020 10:30

My daughter was born on her due date and weight 8lbs 4 and was in newborn for ages. My best mate had a little girl at the same time, exact same weight but couldn't fit in newborn so went straight to 0-3. There's no way of knowing really, just get a mixture and gift on any newborn bits you don't use :)

Urkiddingright · 20/01/2020 11:28

Newborn because you have average sized babies by the sounds of it. If you had bigger babies I’d recommend only buying 0-3 months. I wasted lots of money on newborn clothes for my first baby who ended up being 10 lbs so didn’t fit in any of it.

Kezmum14 · 20/01/2020 14:45

I’d buy newborn. My partner is 6ft 3 and our dc were 7lb 4 and 6lb 13 both overdue. Even my son from ex who was 9lb 3oz was in Newborn for around 6 weeks.

Cacaca · 20/01/2020 14:50

We were told to expect a big baby so mostly bought 0-3 beforehand. Born 8lb 9 and took a good few weeks to fit into 0-3 - we had to buy a lot more newborn as the 0-3 just drowned her.
