Im only 24 weeks pg but ive just got such an urge to clean everything.
Im even wanting to wash the things that i have for the baby even though i know its a waste oftime and that they'll need doing again before he's born.

I didn't...

3isthemagicnumber · 28/08/2007 18:05

I dont think i ever have although dp claims i did the night i went into labour with ds1 because i plumped a cushion before bed!

totaleclipse · 28/08/2007 18:06

I have'nt yet, and my eldest is 6.6

Jan2 · 28/08/2007 18:08

I didn't feel any nesting urges until after I got home from the hopsital when I started frantically making lists of things and sending my hubby out to get them and hoovering and tidying non-stop!! It was wierd - I couldn't relax or sit down for about the first week or so after I got home!

I think part of this was because I didn't really believe that I was having the baby until I was holding her and didn't want to tempt fate by setting everything up in the nursery (I had a miscarriage with my first pregnancy).

Jbck · 28/08/2007 19:53

Didn't really do it with DD but this time round I'm getting a bit frantic already & I'm only 29 weeks. Not really bought much new stuff but I'm more concerned with existing stuff not being ready. DH has tried his best to convince me he knows where all the crib bits are & that DD's cotbed will miraculously turn back into a cot by February but I'm not buying it.
I'm so into hoovering at the moment I'm surprised there's any carpet left upstairs, I'm even hoovering all my wooden floors & tiled bits.

Gemy · 28/08/2007 20:25

Never did but I do remember being a bit frantic that we didn't have enough bedding for the cotbed. It turns out we had lots and lots and still I would find myself thinking we should get some more.

I nested at about 8 1/2 months - as soon as maternity leave started. It was GREAT!!!! I could do with being pregnant every year, as I got all my kitchen drawers sorted (even made little containers for things like batteries!), all the 'important things' sorted, and shredded if necessary, cupboard under stairs etc.
Most useful.

With all 3 of mine I did a really big tidy up/clean the morning before I went into labour

Princesspowersparkle · 28/08/2007 22:08

My LO is 6 weeks old and I haven't had the nesting yet. DH thinks its a myth...

LiliAnjelika · 28/08/2007 22:19

Starting to get nesting/cleaning urge now (36 wks) but the main problem is that I'm much too fat and tired to bend down/stretch/lift/sort etc so most of my energy is channelled into telling dh what needs doing!

fifisworld · 29/08/2007 09:06

Thanks for the replies,
I think i need to try and hold off for a while then with most things i want to do like the baby washing and stuff.
Think i'll keep up the cleaning though

I've started at 20 weeks this time I have an urge to get organised. I painted the hall, stairs and landing 2 weeks ago then started on dd's bedroom, broke down to mil on the phone because I was so tired and this resulted in bil finishing it off and he's now painting the living room too. so i'm nesting and he's doing!

LazyLinePainterJane · 29/08/2007 09:12

When I was 36 weeks I decorated the dining room in an afternoon I had such an urge to do it!

MrsBadger · 29/08/2007 09:18

never had it
I did bake a lot of cakes in the two weeks before the birth but I think this was more to do with a simple desire to eat them than with any domestic urge.

Actually looking at the AIBU thread I started the day before I went into labour it seems I was worried about defrosting the freezer, the state of the house etc but was too lazy to do anything about it before it was too late.

ledodgy · 29/08/2007 09:28

My friend has a hilarious video that her dp filmed of her manically nesting days before her baby was born. It shows her hoovering her mattress whilst standing on it heavily pregnant using an upright dyson. She looked like she was a woman with a mission.

Kathyis6incheshigh · 29/08/2007 09:30

I had a frantic urge to make fishcakes the evening before I went into labour.

Naetha · 29/08/2007 10:40

I get the urge to clean, but then laziness kicks in and I stroke the cats or read a book instead! I'm only 23 weeks though, and the urge has been getting stronger over time!

We're getting lots of stuff done around the house in the next few weeks though, including getting a new kitchen and bathroom fitted, as well as stripping the nasty textured wallpaper from half the house! Hopefully that will satisfy some of my nesting urges without me having to do too much!

fifisworld · 29/08/2007 10:53

I know how you feel naetha,

We have just moved into a brand new house 6 weeks ago so have been getting loads done, infact ive got carpet fitters here now putting the carpet on my stairs but i wish they'd hurry up so i can hoover and wash all the paintwork down.
And ive just had a load of turf delivered for my back garden but i dont think i should be laying that really

I didn't really clean much but towards the end of my pregnancy I did odd things like buying a new thick fluffy white dressing gown and slippers, picturing myself snuggling up to my new little baby all cosy and warm - it didn't occur to me that he was going to be born in the height of summer and I actually spent the first few months being too hot to wear anything and wandering about with my baps out dripping breast milk all over the place!

maisemor · 29/08/2007 11:04

2 minutes before my waters broke with first baby.

fifisworld · 29/08/2007 11:06

lol at wondering round with your baps hanging out

Glad you posted this Fifi, I'm 24 wks pregnant and defrosted the freezer at the weekend. I keep noticing how dirty my house is and really want to clean it but have trouble getting it done as DD (18mths) doesn't like me cleaning at all! I don't think my house is that dirty really it's things like skirting boards and doors I want to get the "magic eraser" to.

Ohh just reminded myself I need to get a new M.E,

fifisworld · 29/08/2007 11:16

Now the carpet fitters have gone i want to hoover my lovley new stair carpet, but ds (16 months) has just gone to sleep. So now i need something else to do, should i attempt to lay the turf??

I was given a 3 large bin bags of second hand baby clothes which had been stored in someone's loft and smelt a bit odd. They called to me gently at first but the call became louder and louder "Wash us, iron us, hang us up in the wardrobe".

Eventually at about 7 months pg I had amassed so many free samples of washing powder and fabric conditioner that they kept tumbling out of the cupboard so I gave in and treated the white stuff so they were less grey and laundered out loads of odd stains on the clothes until I was happy with them , ironed them and even used colour coded hangers in the wardrobe to distinguish between 0-3, 3-6, 6-9 etc.

How sad is that !

At 8 months I assembled the cot that we had been given but which dh showed no signs of getting round to, I got the curtains altered and blackout lined (didn't actually do it myself) and and put up the matching lightshade. At 8 and a half months I also put an extra rail in an old wardrobe to double the hanging space and effectively make it into a children/baby clothes wardrobe.

I never did like painting so I didn't bother and that was the only question people ever asked.... "What colour are you going to paint the baby's room ?"......"er its magnolia and staying that way".

numptysmummy · 29/08/2007 11:43

At about 8wks til i gave birth. Only time i'm ever tidy in fact. Dh would have me perma preg but the resulting children cause more mess so kinda counter-productive
