AT 10+4 - put on lots of weight (don't actually know how much as don't dare weigh myself, but I think it must be about a stone by now.

Please resasure me that this is normal for some people, or am I just a pig who will never be able to loose with the weight after the baby is born?

I don't think I have been eating that excessivly, just seem to keep getting bigger!

Happpened to me with my first baby - was (for me) quite thin when got pregnant, then ballooned during first trimester without really excessive eating. Actually then put on even more weight through rest of pregnancy but in retprspect that WAS through excessive eating.

this time (am 17+4) have lost weight although started heavier. Depends on pregnancy I think

AnguaVonUberwald · 28/08/2007 09:44

Victorvictoria - how do I know what excessive eating is? Not really told family yet - no-one around me who has been pregnant before, so just don't know if I am "doing it right"

Interesting what you said about loosing weight on a subsequant pregnancy!

VictorVictoria · 28/08/2007 09:46

This pregnancy has been 100% different so far. Was much sicker but less tired at the beginning. and NO appretite. Now feel 100% fine. Scarily fine actually (although am assured all is well and heard heartbeat last week).

Angua - you've probably put on less weight then you think. It could also be partly down to fluid retention.
Don't worry to much - just try and eat sensibly - no huge meals just before bedtime for example - and make sure you eat breakfast.

ghosty · 28/08/2007 09:49

I put on loads of weight in both my pregnancies from the word go.
The first trimester was the hardest as I suffered from morning sickness and the only time I didn't feel sick was when I was actually in the act of eating ... so I ate all the time to stop retching ...
I put on 4 stone with DS and over that with DD ...
But panic not, lost it eventually without trying too hard ...
Don't waste your pregnancy with worrying about putting on weight ...

sauce · 28/08/2007 09:49

I did. For both pgs. Don't succumb! It took me a year to get the extra weight off.

AnguaVonUberwald · 28/08/2007 09:49

Peanutbear, good to know it happens to other people, I have been feeling sick a lot, but not throwing up much, so still managed to eat.

Victorvictoria - its a strange time isn't it, we worry if we feel ill and we worry if we feel well!!

FioFio - thank you very much, have to say, slightly envy you the concept of not really putting on any weight, but really just wanted to check that what is happeneing to me is normal.

Belago, thanks, am eating breakfast - and then fruit before lunch - when I then seem to manage until evening, so trying to be a bit sensible

Ghosty, thats very reasuring -

Sauce, that isn't terribly reasurring - I think I will go with Ghosty on this

angua - it sounds like you're doing fine I'm glad that your pregnancy is progressing well this time.

itwasntme · 28/08/2007 10:05

I did too in both pregnancies (am 27 weeks into second now)

With first I put on a stone in the first ten weeks too, then weight gain slowed down.

I've put on slightly more this time.

It took a year to all come off (breatsfed for over a year and I'm sure that helped). But, I ended up slimmer than I was originally and without thinking about it.

Hope that happens again!

AnguaVonUberwald · 28/08/2007 10:18

Belago, thanks, so relived, we had a scan at 9 weeks and there was a heartbeat and little arms and everything. 11 week scan this friday - very exited.

didn't mention the bags of sweets that seem to creep in sometimes (hmmm) but doing the best I can and don't think I am doing too badly

Its very reasuring to hear from other people who got big early on and managed to loose the weight.

Thanks for the comments itwasntme, thats very reassuring.

I have also put on loads of weight already and only in week 12-13. Although I have not actually weighed myself. But I have a vrey visible bump, of which I am really proud
Been feeling sick for 6-7 weeks now and only eating helps. I hate sweets and chocolate, mind. Unfortunately I started to eat bread, which I never used to do.
Anyway, you are not alone.

Fingerbobs · 28/08/2007 10:40

Totally not alone. Stuffing my face from waking till sleeping was the only way I could lessen the nausea, and what I wanted most of all was SUGAR - I found myself at one stage eating honey out of the jar with a spoon . I'm 27 weeks now and still fitting more or less into the same sized clothes I was before pregnancy (in maternity versions, obv). I found I looked like a blob until about three weeks ago when a bump sort of coalesced from the mass and I began to look 'properly' pregnant - I've noticed that with friends too. So don't worry! Also, my preg book says the only additional calories you need are 'two slices of dry toast extra a day' - I'm afraid I'm doing a leedle bit more than that. Enormous (healthy) breakfasts seem to help me through the day, too.
(Sorry for length - I'm slightly obsessed with food atm)

MrsThreads · 28/08/2007 10:56

Hi all

I am new to these boards but I have told how lovely you all are.

I have been eating like a horse - only way to stop the nausea. I had gained 4lbs before the weekend but have gained more since then as I had a lovely weekend away and didn't watch what I ate at all.

I am trying to do Slimming World at least 60% during my pregnancy to help keep me under control so I am hoping the midwife will let me continue at my booking in appt.

I was a size 16 before I got pregnant so don't want to get gestational diabetes whilst pregnant hence SW.

Sorry for waffling

xx

florencemum · 28/08/2007 11:02

in both my pgs i put on the bulk of weight in the first trimester. i was so hungy i couldn't stop eating, ate more than dh every meal. it slowed down in 2nd trimester

AnguaVonUberwald · 28/08/2007 11:09

Thank you all so much for your comments, was starting to get really stressed about it, as my pregnancy book basically says - don't put on any weight in the first trimester, and if you do, you will never loose it!!!

Very reassuring.

Florencemum, here's hoping I am the same

Gingercat12 - unfortunatly I don't hate sweets or chocolate (or bread)

Fingerbobs, thats it, I look very blob like around the middle, plus think I have gone up at least one clothes sise (though haven't bought any maternity clothes yet - just wearing my skirts VERY high around the waist.

Welcome MrsThread

Angua - chuck out the book

dal21 · 28/08/2007 11:51

Angua - agree with Belgo - throw that silly silly book away. No book can make a statement like that. It totally depends on how you were when you fell pregnant and also how prone you are to water retention etc.

I was underweight when I fell pregnant and know that I put on a stone in the first trimester. It was only once I was into the second trimester that I read that if you start pregnancy underweight - try and get up to a healthy weight range for the second trimester. I had no idea that was what my body was doing - it instinctively knew what i needed to nourish the baby. Even if you werent underweight - I still think the same applies. Listen to your body and dont fret about the weight thing - easier said than done I know!

Oh and p.s. chuck away those scales, you dont need to weigh yourself and if for any reason the medical staff do - ask them not to tell you.

ghosty · 28/08/2007 13:13

ANGUA

STEP AWAY FROM THE BOOK
PUT IT DOOOOOOOWWWWWWNNNNNNN
THAT'S IT, GENTLY DOES IT ...
NOW STEP AWAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYYYY
DON'T LOOK AT IT

honestly, don't read any books ... they are BAD

My doctor weighed me every appointment when I was pg with DS and he was a complete shit about my weight gain. I was 9 stone when I got pregnant and 13 stone the day I gave birth ... Every time he made me stnd on the scales I cried I felt like crap thanks to him and his wagging finger.
When I was pg with DD I asked my midwife NOT to weigh me. She said it wasn't necessary. The only time she weighed me was the day I went to be induced as they needed to know my weight for the anaesthetist (I was highly likely to have a c/s which I did end up having).
I found out that day that I had gone from 60kg to 90kg but the difference was that I didn't really care. I was going to have my beautiful baby and I knew I could lose it ...
I went down to 75kg within a month and then was 65kg by the time DD was 1 and now hover at around 62/63kg with not much effort ... (60kg was/is my v. skinny weight and is a v. high maintenence weight for me and I can't be bothered right now so I will make do with 62/63 ).

Every person is different ... every pregnancy is different ... yes I think that people who are already v. overweight should be more careful about putting on more weight ... for their own health but if you are a healthy weight and are by nature health conscious and active, you WILL lose it again - maybe not within a month (don't listen to people who tell you they went home from hospital in their pre pregnancy skinny jeans ) maybe not in the first year, but at some point you will ...

liz5573 · 28/08/2007 13:28

I have had 4 children and with each I put on about 4 stone. The best way to stay in shape is walking when I had my children this is what I did to get my figure back it doesn't take much. If you go for a walk everyday you'll find the baby will sleep and you get back in shape. So if you feel hungary eat!

ara · 28/08/2007 18:20

I weighed myself at the weekend and have put on 3st --argh!! Am 27+3. I think this might be a bit abnormal!

Idreamofdaleks · 28/08/2007 18:30

Don't pig out on cakes and sweets, just eat healthily and you will be fine!

derah · 28/08/2007 18:36

I gained my entire healthy pregnancy gain in the first trimester with DD. Throw away the book, throw away the scales, there's enough to worry about in pregnancy without stressing about weight too. Just try to be as sensible as you can with food.
