Early pregnancy and cramps?

EssJayyCee · 31/12/2019 05:56

Hi,
I found out I was pregnant yesterday.
I am possibly 3 weeks+6 but I'm not exact as I have irregular cycles and my BBT chart is hit and miss with accuracy.

I have had light - medium period cramps the last few days. Is this normal or should I be worried or expect this to be a chemical pregnancy?

I've had loads of cramps so much so I had an early scan and all was fine 👍🏻

EssJayyCee · 31/12/2019 06:44

@squirrelnutkins1 Thank you for the reassurance. I'm still so nervous. Cramps seem to have ceased a bit this morning.

I'm worried it is a chemical pregnancy.

I had lots of cramps with my current pregnancy, it’s completely normal and many many women experience it. There’s a lot going on, things growing, which is bound to cause discomfort.

FWIW, with my chemical I felt nothing, just a Faint positive test for 2 days. And with my MC I was bleeding so I knew something wasn’t right (and that was at 6 weeks, before then I don’t actually recall the cramps either).

Congratulations OP and good luck with the pregnancy Flowers

EssJayyCee · 31/12/2019 08:12

@Keyboard91 Thank you for the reassurance!
I took another cheap test this morning and the line is darker so I'm still feeling positive.

It's been a long 17 months trying and I actually have my second fertility appointment next week where I was supposed to be prescribed medication to help! So it's been such a shock! An amazing shock!

I'm still semi in disbelief!

OP posts:
Keyboard91 · 31/12/2019 08:27

@EssJayyCee that is a very special Christmas miracle after 17 months! It’s a shock at the best of times! But the best one!

And a darker line is really positive (try not to do what I did and pee on a stick pretty much every day for 2 weeks....).

EssJayyCee · 31/12/2019 08:41

@Keyboard91 I feel like I need to pee on a stick every day, at least until my appointment!
For peace of mind more than anything.

I am mad I know!

I can't wait to be able to tell my family.
When did you tell family friends etc?

OP posts:
Keyboard91 · 31/12/2019 08:58

@EssJayyCee definitely not mad! It helped me at the time but I’m annoyed at the money I spent on tests as I refused to use anything but FRER so I could compare!

I told my sister straight away every time, she is my rock and her support was invaluable each time. Family and close friends I told around 7 weeks this time as we had an early scan due to some spotting and saw a heart beat. Work and colleagues knew at 9 weeks and everyone else found out after 12 week scan. It’s a very personal decision though.

EssJayyCee · 31/12/2019 09:06

@Keyboard91 Ah yeah very expensive!
I have just been using internet cheapies confirmed by one FRER and I will probably do a second FRER next week some time. So they haven't cost me much!

My sister is 13 weeks pregnant at the moment... I'm not massively close to her but I think once I tell her it will be nice to have someone to share it all with and could make us closer, but I want her to have a little bit longer to enjoy all the attention on her.
I am thinking 7/8 weeks for family, 10 for close friends and then everyone else 12 weeks after first scan.

I am so clueless with pregnancy.. now I have a positive test what do I do?

@EssJayyCee it varies slightly depending on how your trust works, but if you give your GP surgery a call, they will tell you how to refer yourself to a midwife (no need to see a GP unless you have concerns). That will then trigger your first midwife appointment, your booking appointment, which occurs roughly around 10 weeks. Midwife will then book you in for your 12 week scan and combined test (if you want it). They pretty much leave you to yourself until then, the NHS website is very handy for questions and to tell you what to expect from them during the pregnancy.

squirrelnutkins1 · 31/12/2019 10:21

Sounds like my story! I was waiting for my period to start the medication and we got preg. That ended in mc sadly but I didn't get cramps to start with just some bleeding.

Currently 10 weeks preg and hoping for he best. It was the most amazing thing EVER to see the little jelly bean on the ultrasound!
Not told a sole yet! X

squirrelnutkins1 · 31/12/2019 10:33

Soul I mean! Not the fish 🤣

EssJayyCee · 31/12/2019 11:56

Thank you @Keyboard91 I had a little search around and my area you have to self refer to the midwife I am not quite 4 weeks yet so do you think it's a bit early to do the forms? When Is the best time to start with the formalities?

@squirrelnutkins1 I am sorry for your loss. I have my fingers crossed this little bean sticks! I've not had much cramping today just a little twinge here and there.
I bet it is amazing 😍🥰

So you have told all the Soles then? 😂
When do you plan on telling the people?

OP posts:
squirrelnutkins1 · 31/12/2019 12:19

I phone my gp when I was about 5 weeks and they booked me for my booking appt about 8 weeks.

Haha all my fishy friends know 🤣🤣🤣 I've got a private scan on sat so may tell my two closest friends who've helped me thru my mc then and then everyone else after 12 week scan.

EssJayyCee · 31/12/2019 12:37

@squirrelnutkins1 I have my fertility appointment next wednesday so I think I'll go to that and then sort midwife stuff out afterwards. I will be 5 weeks by then.

Aww you are 6 weeks ahead of me then. Are you going to find out what you're having?

OP posts:
squirrelnutkins1 · 31/12/2019 18:42

They will be thrilled for you 😊 my consultant always said I hope I do t see you again after every appointment 🤣

At the moment no but that could change!!! How about you?

squirrelnutkins1 · 02/01/2020 08:12

How are the cramps now? X

EssJayyCee · 02/01/2020 08:43

@squirrelnutkins1 I think I will be finding out so I can prepare better! Also, I don't think I could wait all 9 months to find out! Hats off to you for waiting!

The cramps have eased off quite alot now. I get the odd one or two throughout the day. Last night I had medium cramps for about 45 minutes but I think it's probably just all the changed going on in there!

When did you start getting proper symptoms?
I've not got any other than the cramps and my boobs have grown but they aren't even sore..

It's bothering me that I haven't got any but I know every woman is different!

How are you doing? Xx

OP posts:
squirrelnutkins1 · 02/01/2020 08:56

Glad they've eased a bit 😊

We may change our mind nearer the time 🤣 9 months is a real long time to wait!

I had period like cramps for days before I tested. I only tested so I could be sure I could have a load of drinks that weekend to drown the fact that it was my original due date so I was beyond surprised to get a positive!

I think sore nipples were the first around 6 weeks. I have a lot of nausea too but not all the time. Trapped wind and the resulting bloating tbh has been the worst thing! I felt really poorly at 7 weeks with it. It's not at all glamorous 🤣 nobody tells you these bits!!!!

I'm looking forward to getting to 12 weeks so we can tell people and not be conscious of sucking my belly in 🤣 I've always had a little pouch of a belly but it's only gonna get bigger, altho this time of year you can just be like yeah over indulged over the hols and feeling bloated! That's what I said first thing at work on Monday 🤣

EssJayyCee · 02/01/2020 09:04

@squirrelnutkins1 it really is such a long time! Other people's pregnancies seem to fly but I feel like being the pregnant one will make it drag so much!

I was having cramps a few days before I tested too but just assumed AF was coming... I actually only tested because my puppy was being overly affectionate with me and it made me think.. and Voila! Puppy knows best! 💕

I get bloated alot anyway because I have a constipation strand of IBS which is rubbish but at least I know i can deal with that pain if i get it as a pregnancy symptom!

I can't wait either! I really want to tell my family but I don't want to tell anyone so early because I don't want to jinx anything.

Haha, I have a bit of a belly so I doubt I will show until after 12 weeks! It's not massive but I'm definitely overweight! I was actually re-joining the gym this month.. but apparently I won't now!

What sort of exercises do you do?

OP posts:
squirrelnutkins1 · 02/01/2020 09:18

That's so true about other people's pregnancies!! We're the same, really don't want to be telling people early. I've got a private scan on sat and may tell my two closest friends if it's all good, just because they've been so supportive during this journey and mc. Should be 10+5 then. Then 12 week scan on 16th when I should be 12+3. Just want the time to fly now!

Awww I've heard that about dogs but never heard it first hand! That's amazing!

Sorry about your IBS but you'll def be well equipped to deal with the bloating/wind!

I was still going to the gym but not been able to face it this last couple of weeks. Only light exercise like cross trainer or swimming. I don't dare do any weights! I really want to try and go today. It's important to keep active but just listen to your body. Even if you just increase the amount of walking you do then that's good. I need to get up more on my work lunch breaks. Terrible habit of just working thru for years on end!

EssJayyCee · 02/01/2020 22:35

@squirrelnutkins1 aww I hope your scan goes well!
I was looking at early scans (I know it's still way too early) but they are really expensive.

We are on a tight budget so the only scans we will get will be the ones on the NHS unfortuneately!

I would never have believed it if it hadn't have happened to me with my puppy. He's so loving towards me at the moment. I love all the cuddle I am getting! 🥰

I went on my first proper walk of the year tonight! Onwards and upwards! I want to try and lose some fat weight before I get too too pregnant so I need to do more exercise. I am thinking of going swimming once a week as well but I need to get myself walking and in a routine first!

Full on healthy eating is starting up again on Monday too! I am sooo ready for more vegetables! Grin

My period would of been due also it's very scary Shock

EssJayyCee · 03/01/2020 14:09

@zoelouwalk I am 4weeks+2 now.
My cramps have disappeared and no other symptoms have turned up yet. So I don't even feel pregnant.
It is so scary!

OP posts:
zoelouwalk · 03/01/2020 14:44
