My dh wouldn't stand for an unusual name, either, even though I have one and he likes it. For a girl he likes Elizabeth and Frances. Nothing against either, but they're not v exciting.

Enid · 03/09/2002 19:36

aloha, I love Frances and it would be top of my list if baby no 2 is a girl, unfortunately there is a very close relative with that name so dp has vetoed it.

SoupDragon · 03/09/2002 19:38

There's Carys which is Welsh and means something along the lines of Loved. Unfortunately I have 2 boys

rdw, I used to know someone with a Theodore, her DH is American, they also had Benedict, any good? (Another Theo I know has a brother called Alexander.)

aloha and Enid, I have a Frances, although we call her Fran - I named her because all the Franceses I know of seemed to be good strong interesting characters (eg Barber, de la Tour, Princess Di's mother, can't think who else at the mo!) and she has certainly turned out that way, needs a good sitting on a lot of the time. This may put you right off of course...

Karenanne, my father's first wife's maiden name was Langley and my half brother has Langley as his middle name. I wonder if there's any relationship between our two families?? Whereabouts is your family from?

rdw · 04/09/2002 11:33

janh
you are clearly on right wavelength, we still have benedict on short list and had francis until last night when we realised that we knew two already.

EmmaM · 04/09/2002 13:08

Dh thinks the baby is called Romeo because he was conceived in the back of Alfa Romeo

WWW, I think it is Marsha Hunt's daughter (by Mick Jagger) who is called Karis.
Azzie, Charis is pronounced Karis, it's the same derivation as Charisma I think so a very "attractive" name!

Dh used to be a Romeo ....... until he married me :-)

21stcenturygirl · 06/09/2002 12:36

Johnshe Lol! My dh is still one (or so he thinks!). On the naming front, for dd2 my dh wanted to choose the name as I chose dd1. The only name he liked was his first wife's name. He just couldn't understand why I wouldn't go along with it. Men!

aloha · 06/09/2002 12:55

Oops, truly didn't mean to offend. Actually Frances is my middle name, which is probably why I don't find it terribly exciting (bored with it after all these years!). I do like both names but prob would have gone for something a little more 'exotic' myself. I think I may have persuaded a friend to go for Thalia, which I love but dh doesn't. It's like persuading someone to buy a pair of shoes that you like but can't afford...

Since having my DD I have been desperate to have a "Jude" for some reason. Not that I desperatly want another boy, but "Jude" is the name always in my head. And then this summer when we were just thinking about trying, I met a "Reuben". What a lovely rich name. It drips of the tongue. So now I'm pg. If its a girl I have no idea. If its a boy I'll have to choose "Jude Reuben", "Reuban Jude"..... crumbs maybe its a sign...twins. Help!

MABS · 19/09/2002 21:46

Katherine - go for Jude Reuben, it sounds wonderful , IMO Reuben Jude sounds like a dance step

Tinker · 19/09/2002 21:46

If it's a girl you can have Judy Ruby or Ruby Judy or Ruby Tuesday or........

Can you tell I'm meant to be doing something else?

WideWebWitch · 19/09/2002 22:55

Yes Tinker, it's obvious: GET ON WITH YOUR ESSAY!!!

janh · 20/09/2002 14:20

Katherine, a friend of mine has a sister called Judith and they call her Jude....
