As my dh would say "Why don't you start bullying him now and be done with it?"

mears · 01/09/2002 14:29

What a shame Victoria is already justifying her caesrean saying that was not elective but was under doctors orders. A spokesperson said that Brooklyn was a C/S because he was breech. Funny - her biography said it was due to a high head - mind you, you can't get much higher than that!
Still it's no-one elses business but theirs....

karenanne · 01/09/2002 17:09

just because she has a caeserian doesnt mena she chose to have it.we dont know all their personal details and with something as personal as whether she can give birth naturally i can understand why.perhaps she cant so what!
from someone who had a caeserian...trust me its very painful and takes along while to get over even if you was up and about on your feet after 6 and a half hours like i was.i had an emergency one but was told if i ever have anymore children then oi could choose to have a caeserian.
also as for people being too posh to push ...speaking from personal experience it may seem an easy option but it is major surgery and definatley NOT an easy option.
karenanne
good luck to the beckhams ...romeo is odd but then im sure it'll grow on people.

Rhiannon · 01/09/2002 17:32

Not sure about Romeo myself and I thought it was a girl anyway!

aloha · 01/09/2002 17:36

Everyone in our house laughed long and hard when we heard the name on the radio, so it was very nice of the Beckhams to add to the gaiety of our household

Zoe · 01/09/2002 19:16

I'm really pleased for David and Victoria that it's all done and dusted and that Mum and baby are well. I'm not pleased that Basement Jaxx "Romeo" has now been going round my head all day (you konw - "You used to be my Romeo...". Bless 'em - leave them to it - you would be horrifed and disgusted if I told you some of the names our patients call their children (but can't due to confidentiality), it would be dull if we all liked the same ones!

PS I'm with you karenanne

Demented · 01/09/2002 19:17

I did read a headline on the front of a v trashy newspaper today that Brooklyn is going to be present at the c/s to help with the bonding. Whether it is true or not I don't know.

Demented · 01/09/2002 19:18

Doh, it has just clicked that she has had the baby! Does anyone know if this is true then?

mears · 01/09/2002 19:25

Yes he was - David said on the news he came in once the baby was lifted out. I hope there isn't a rush of requests

leese · 01/09/2002 19:29

karenanne - I'm sure mears wasn't criticizing the choice made by Mrs Beckham (or by her doctors), just making a wry observation, thats all!

mears · 01/09/2002 20:41

Thanks Leese - I was trying to be a bit witty, but obviously not very successfully. I am sure poor old Victoria does not have good old child bearing hips like me. In previous posts you will see that I know C/S is not the easy option. She is so petite I am in no doubt she would require a C/S with a husband the size of DB- height that is

janh · 01/09/2002 21:18

ooh, mears, you norty thing

Sky news had a really nice, sane, doctor on who said that she thought the same as you - that Victoria has such tiny hips that even with a baby the right way round (as Brooklyn wasn't, apparently) she was unlikely to be able to labour successfuly, esp. after a 1st CS.

She also made a reference to older mothers (not VB, obviously) needing CSs more than younger ones, and of course there are more older mothers now, and the mad Sky woman said "oh, you mean women who've had IVF!" and the nice doctor said, patiently, no, she didn't mean that, just older mothers....honestly, some of these newsreaders want a good slapping.

There is also the question of fitting the baby in around the football and obviously, if she was having a CS anyway, she might as well have it at a convenient time. Poor girl can't do a thing right!

BTW, is it just me or has anybody else thought that Brooklyn is extremely tall for a 3-yr-old???

Zoe, I don't know the song you mean but all day I've had "get back inside me Romeo, she said, get back inside me take me to your bed" which always sounded jolly rude to me (not to mention a really annoying tune!)

OP posts:
Jasper · 01/09/2002 22:47

Me too janh - who sang that?

Jasper · 01/09/2002 22:57

Just had a flash of inspiration - was it Mr Big?

Tinker · 01/09/2002 23:02

Mr Big. We made someone sing it to our music teacher just to embarass him. He later went on to have a nervous breakdown!

Mo2 · 02/09/2002 09:36

I think the Beckhams ought to silence all the media criticism of the name by saying he's named after their favourite Shakespeare character.... I'd believe them... (not!)

Joe1 · 02/09/2002 09:37

I have no intentions of calling No2 Romeo if it is a boy but we already have a Harvey in the family.

leander · 02/09/2002 09:44

I think that its just cruel to call a child Romeo, but each to their own!

Tinker · 02/09/2002 10:28

I quite like Romeo. The drummer of Showaddywaddy was called Romeo - maybe they're secret fans.

Ghosty · 02/09/2002 10:43

I am really sorry but I can't stop giggling! I have just found out from this thread that Posh and Becks have had the baby and please tell me that this is a joke - it isn't Romeo?????

On the CS front - who cares how the baby was born - as long as he is healthy and she is well. I had to have a CS after a 50+ hour labour due to no one noticing the fact that I had a monster 10 pounder inside a 5'7" 9 stone frame. If I had to give birth naturally neither he or I would be here today! Thank god for modern medicine that's what I say!

SoupDragon · 02/09/2002 10:52

Obviously Romeo Beckham isn't going to have any problems as everyone will want to be his friend because of his daddy. It's any Romeo Smiths I feel sorry for!

As for the c-section, I think it's a real shame they felt they have to defend their "choice". Whether it was doctors advice or not it's really no one's business.

WideWebWitch · 02/09/2002 11:55

Although I think Posh and Becks are very dim indeed (did anyone see the documentary about their world cup party? It was hilarious!) I do think he's a good role model for young men and a devoted father (and she is as a mother, seemingly). They don't have endless nannies (not that there's anything wrong with nannies but they don't seem like Mrs "I've never changed a nappy" Madge Richie) and spend a lot of time with Brooklyn and their families. As for the c section, I agree with Mears, I don't think it's any of my business really. The woman is miniscule though so maybe it was medically advised (no idea whether this is a factor). Not keen on the name but liked the schweppes ads where a Posh lookalike is posing to show a tattoo like David's on her back saying "ESSEX"

aloha · 02/09/2002 12:35

I must be the only person in the world who thinks having a second elective c/section is one of the smartest things Mrs Beckham has done in her life. Mine was great, and so presumably was hers. Also I have been dipping into the tearing and stitches thread, which has well and truly scuppered any vague thoughts I had about having any possible second child vaginally. There were posts there that gave me nightmares...

mears · 02/09/2002 12:45

As for tears, the ones I've seen at C/S extending into major blood vessels would make your hair curl......
Let's not do that debate again
