So anxious about 20 week scan and not feeling flutters or kicks

I'm 17+5 weeks and have still not felt any flutters, had or any of the description that first time mums give about baby movements. What makes things worse is every email I have received from bounty, Emma's diary etc say 'you should feel your baby's movement by now' but on other pages it says anything from 18-24 weeks! I have my 20 week scan end of December and I'm scaring myself with stories from Tommy's website about babies not making it past 24 weeks and stillbirths. I'm in bits and so anxious and scared.
I can't afford a private scan at the moment so not an option for me, really worried! Anyone have any advice to calm me the hell down? X

Definitely didn't feel mine until about 20 weeks, it depends on weight, muscle tone, placenta position, etc. You tend to feel first babies a bit later.

*gas not bad lol

I didn’t feel anything til after my 20 week scan.

I can feel him now though, at age 7, lying on me.

Subsequent occupants I felt much, much earlier (10-12 weeks).

jpaws · 29/11/2019 10:43

Try not to worry, I didn't feel mine properly until about 19 weeks or so and sometimes even then I wasn't sure if it was or not.

smartcarnotsosmartdriver · 29/11/2019 10:44

I felt what might have been baby at about 19 weeks but it was the day of my 20 week scan that I felt a proper kick that I knew was him. He was perfectly fine and is currently asleep on me right now.

OhHellYa · 29/11/2019 10:46

I actually didn't feel anything until about 30 weeks the first time! I do know what you mean though, I'm also anxiously waiting my 20 week scan, even though I know it was all fine the last time

With my first I didn’t feel anything till just before my 20 week scan. I was very busy working (as a nurse) and I’m sure If I was sitting down concentrating I may have felt something earlier. They are such tiny ‘flutters’ to start with that they can easily be missed.
I know it’s so hard but try not to worry, im sure it won’t be long before you’re being belted in the ribs by baby! I always found with my DC they’d wriggle about more when I was laying in a warm bath.

Sashkin · 29/11/2019 10:50

Anterior placenta, didn’t feel anything until about 22 weeks. Even then it wasn’t very convincing until more like 24-26 weeks.

Very convincing when he was breech and started kicking my liver though. Saw literal foot outlines at some points.

Sashkin · 29/11/2019 10:56

How it felt to start with: a bit like your stomach gurgling/gas moving, but slightly different! It’s hard to explain. Developed into a sort of gentle tapping/drumming on your belly when she was restless or shifted position. By the time he was born it was literally being kicked in the stomach and liver, plus weird pulsating (like a very slow heartbeat) when he had hiccups.

Thank you all x

Try not to worry (easier said than done I know), I didn't feel anything properly until about 22 weeks. I was convinced something was wrong and was very surprised at my 20 week scan when the sonographer said it was wriggling loads and I couldn't feel it at all Blush

loveyourself87 · 29/11/2019 10:59

@Sashkin so sweet! Thank you for sharing

I haven't felt anything yet and have 20 week scan next week. I have felt what feel like gas bubbles in the last day or so which I think are technically movements according to places I have read.

loveyourself87 · 29/11/2019 10:59

@ELM8 thanks! Fingers crossed x

“I keep feeling fluttering in lower tummy but then again, I could be imagining it haha”

Nope, that’s what it feels like! It will get stronger over the next month or so until it’s unmistakable.

loveyourself87 · 29/11/2019 11:06

@Sashkin ahhh wow.

I can’t remember exactly when I felt movements with my first but it was definitely after the 20 week scan.

pooopypants · 29/11/2019 11:17

22 weeks with first and a bit earlier with second. Both anterior placement though.

Those flutters you're feeling? That's likely your baby 😄

Caspianberg · 29/11/2019 11:22

My stomach has been gurgling as well, like I haven't eaten in a week.

Ate a huge roast on Sunday, sat down 10 mins later on the sofa and it was rumbling. Dh was going ' do not tell me your STILL hungry'

loveyourself87 · 30/11/2019 14:59

Another question ladies, baby bumps! Mine isn't out there, I look normal for my size, I'm the evening my belly is huge ( assuming it's the food and carbs I eat during the day) but in morning it looks like my normal stomach. When did your bumps appear?

I didn't know I was pregnant until I was 5mths. When the doctor sent me for a scan I was in total shock looking at a little baby kicking about inside me.

loveyourself87 · 30/11/2019 15:09

@ParkheadParadise thanks,

Any other ladies who knew and didn't show? X
