Anyone else had to fake drinking alcohol?

Will be 6 weeks at the end of this week and I have a big house party for a friends birthday on Saturday. I let my hair down at these things and drink with everyone but obviously can't so I'm not sure how to get around it without someone asking me if I'm pregnant. I know I will raise a lot of suspicion if I'm refusing drinks.

It's a BYOB thing so I was thinking maybe I could get away with taking a vodka bottle full of water and some lemonade haha.

Haha I wouldn't, you know someone will try to take some and then it will be really obvious! I wouldn't bother and just say you are on antibiotics or that you are really hungover from Friday night :)

BeanBag7 · 26/11/2019 22:30

Tellkng people that you're taking antibiotics is the easy answer, although they may see though it.

Yoohoo16 · 26/11/2019 22:31

You ate something dodgy a few nights before and thought you’d better not drink to cause more stomach upset.

justilou1 · 26/11/2019 22:32

Tonic water & lime is an easy fake out (and can help settle your tummy) or soda and lime.

notacooldad · 26/11/2019 22:32

I have always gone through periods of drinking and then not so no one noticed (or cared) when I didnt drink.
I would say that i was cutting out drink to save myself for Christmas!

Spanglebangle · 26/11/2019 22:35

Don't do the antibiotics thing it is so obvious! People are there to have fun not to scrutinize what you are drinking. Just take vodka and lemonade. Only drink the lemonade and pour some vodka away when no one is looking or in the bathroom. That way you can offer the vodka around and not worry about it.

notacooldad · 26/11/2019 22:38

What!!! Pour vodka away! Are you joking!!🤣🤣🤣

I agree about not saying you are on antibiotics. Such a cliche!!

Drive?

Went on holiday to stay with my parents who live abroad when i was newly pregnant, so my mum was making us G&Ts, lots of wine. H and i would put our glasses next to each other on the table, he'd drink both drinks. I'd occasionally pick my glass up & pretend to drink, or just hold it. Take it to the loo, top it up with tap water. I knew my mum would not fall for the not drinking / antibiotics routine.

Worked a treat - although my Mum did take me to one side before we went home to say she didnt think he could cope very well with alcohol! Was v amusing when we told her a month or so later it was because he was drinking twice as much as she thought!

I've found just saying I've got cystitis helps, as most people (women, at least) know that drinking is a bad idea.

Good luck!

SallyWD · 27/11/2019 14:24

I akways said I had an infected tooth and was on antibiotics. No one doubted it.

limpingparrot · 27/11/2019 14:31

Accept drinks and then leave them somewhere, easy to do at a house party.

Just don't talk about it, no one will notice unless you start going into long explanations and denials! When I had a proper tooth infection and couldn't drink everyone assumed I was pregnant, when I was actually pregnant I just took drinks as normal and no one suspected a thing ! Even managed to palm them off on my husband which is advanced level especially as it was a family dinner!

Mylittlepony374 · 27/11/2019 14:36

Antibiotics are a giveaway. I actually had someone (she's an arsehole generally so wasn't surprised) taste my drink when I was pregnant. Easiest is to accept/carry around alcoholic drinks, leave them down etc when no one watching. Or drive. Or avoid party until you feel comfortable telling people...

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 27/11/2019 14:37

I faked a hangover at a party. Worked for the first few hours.... Until friend suddenly said 'anyone Eid think you were pregnan...' and realised I actually was. She kept the secret though and helped me avoid alcohol for the party.

ELM8 · 27/11/2019 14:46

Agree, take actual vodka in case someone tries it. I did fake drinking for my first trimester and got away with it. If you're a wine drinker put non alcoholic wine in an alcoholic wine bottle. People tend to notice less after the first hour or so.

IMO antibiotics = pregnant so I'd avoid that!!

Passthecherrycoke · 27/11/2019 14:47

Just pretend to drink and stick your booze in with everyone else’s. People don’t pay as much attention as you think

FelixFelicis6 · 27/11/2019 14:50

Yes take alcohol and a soft drink like tonic/lemonade and fake drink. If someone tries to pour you an alcoholic one you can always dump it!

TipseyTorvey · 27/11/2019 15:11

Yes several times. Get a bottle of brown beer and swig lots without any actually going down. If you have a bottle in your hand people think you're drinking and it's easier than a glass as people can't top it up and watch it go down. I managed to get away with several night out like this.

GrumpyHoonMain · 27/11/2019 15:15

Just forget to bring anything and drink water? Or would the others offer to share (my friends wouldn’t lol)

Trethew · 27/11/2019 15:15

Morrison’s sell a low/no alcohol version of Prosecco which is passable. Called Nosecco. Nobody would know

DappledThings · 27/11/2019 15:18

I always said I had an infected tooth and was on antibiotics. No one doubted it.

I really doubt that! Antibiotics is pretty much the same as waving a positive test around.

20viona · 27/11/2019 15:25

DO NOT SAY ANTIBIOTICS.

Fake drinking is the way forward.

SunshineAngel · 27/11/2019 15:32

I absolutely hate the fact that you have to make up ridiculous stories for why you're not drinking. Why is society like this! I don't drink much and always get asked if I'm pregnant. Umm no, it can just be a choice!

I'd take some alcohol free something or other. It's not always easy to tell, so if you're just bringing your own drinks it shouldn't be picked up on.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 27/11/2019 15:40

Say your hungover

20viona · 27/11/2019 15:55

@DappledThings that cracked me up it's so true.

LauraLooDerby · 27/11/2019 16:01

I told one friend who then helped me hide it! She'd go to get a drink and pour me a "gin and tonic" or put a bottle of alcohol free cider into a glass and then hide the bottle - they all taste of the alcoholic versions and actually a couple of people tasted my drink and couldn't tell the difference. The fruity kopparbergs, Old Mout and Sheppy's cider all taste just like the real thing, as do the small pre-mixed bottles of Gordon's gin and tonic.
